Summary: Better Service
Review: I have both the RIM 950 & 850 inter@ctive pagers. I have the RIM 850 to be more useful. The RIM-950 runs on the "BellSouth Wireless Data Network" (BSWD) and the RIM-850 runs on the "Motient" network. The Motient network is a lot better in my opinion. BSWD is not available everywhere yet. I am better off using my RIM-850 than my RIM-950. I will be glad when Amazon starts offering the RIM-850.

Review: I had a palm VII because I am a reporter and on the road, but returned it because I couldn't get my AOL mail. After several greuling efforts of calling around, I was finally contacted by someone at AOL that I could get my AOL mail if I used GoAmerica. I bought the Blackberry and after a few days of waiting patienly for the service to activate found my way around the unit. I then found out that the service did not include GoAmerica and I had to go to there site and sign up..needless to say when I foundout I would have an extra monthly charge i was upset, but now that I have my AOL mail and I can go to the NY times its worth the extra monthly service charge (10 bucks).

Summary: Blackberry 950
Review: I work for Aether Systems and I have to tell you besides the company being a GREAT COMAPNY to work for the product line, Blackberry 950,951, and 957 they are the best on the market. I do tech support and because the unit (W.I.T) works so well I kinda feel like the Maytag repair guy.

Summary: Don't buy just yet.......
Review: I've been using mobile communications for a while and have found RIM makes a great product. But the service offered with the product leaves some to be desired. Specifically, the BellSouth Wireless service that supports the product isn't all that great. From what I've learned, coverage is spotty, unreliable, and not that broad. I have found one network that supports the RIM device that provides great coverage. It's a company called MOTIENT and the service is eLink (it uses the RIM device too). MOTIENT has a larger network (the largest in the country) with better coverage, even in buildings! So, take some advice and check out the competition first before you buy. I did and couldn't be happier with the service offered by Motient. After all, the device is nothing without a network to support it!

Summary: At first I snickered at my husband's newest 'gadget'
Review: but now I want one too. Its *SO* much more reliable than a cell phone. When I NEED to reach him, I can reach him. He loves it too.

Summary: Simply put - WOW!!
Review: This is a phenomenal product. I have been using it for the last couple months and have noticed not only an improvement in my personal efficiency but a vast reduction in my monthly cell phone bills. Perfect for the business consumer on the go in need of time critical information. There are a ton of apps for the BlackBerry and you can now view the internet with GoAmerica.

Whats next, hopefully secure corporate data.

Summary: Best PDA device in the market
Review: I have had a 957 Blackberry for about 5 months, and it has changed the way that I stay connected. No more dialing in to get e-mails, no more Palm mail synchronization woes. With a Blackberry you are connected 24x7 and if you purchase the optional MS Exchange server software you don't ever have to worry about leaving your computer on to forward messages from your desktop.

The small thumb keyboard took a while to get used to, but after a couple of weeks, I can safely say I was able to type messages and notes faster than on my Palm. The small trackwheel is intuitive and easy to use, and the 5MB of RAM have proven to be more than sufficient for several weeks worth of mail, notes, address book, etc.

I also purchased GoAmerica's web service and although it can sometimes take a few seconds to access, it is well integrated with the rest of the functionality of the Blackberry and offers extensive web coverage.

The screen for the 957 is large enough for email and web browsing, and it's also well lit with a back light for "night" reading.

My only complaint is the lack of coverage on non-large metropolitan areas--RIM has little to do with this, but one gets so used to the full time connectivity and reliability of this device that it is frustrating to travel somewhere and find yourself out of reach.

I strongly recommend this product.

Summary: Nice but limited
Review: My company ordered one of these after reading an article about BlackBerry in The New York Times (9/21/2000). It's a beautiful piece of technology. Unfortunately, it looks like we'll be returning it, for two reasons. First, we use AOL for business email and we only found out belatedly that AOL does not support BlackBerry at this time. We had called BlackBerry before buying the machine, and a customer service rep assured us that AOL and CompuServe and were supported. AOL confirmed to us that this is not the case. Second, BlackBerry's wireless partner, Aether Systems, has very limited coverage outside of major coastal cities and some cities like Chicago. Large portions of the country, especially the so-called "flyover" states, are not covered.

We're probably going to go with a Palm. Check out the BlackBerry VERY carefully before investing your money.

Summary: Revolutionary Advance in PDAs
Review: I have owned a dozen pagers, PDAs, Palms, WinCEs, etc. The Blackberry is the revolutionary breakthru. It holds 5000 of my contacts, 1000s of calendar items, 100 memos & notes, and 1000 emails. It is revolutionary because: -it has real-time, synchronized email capabilities -it has a screen big enough to read multiple paragraphs of information -it has a keyboard that allows users to type one page emails -it can be operated with a single hand -it has an effective micro-web browser (Go America) -it has self-recharging batteries that never run down

I carry this device everywhere. It has untethered me from my office, allowing me to work at home, at restaurants, on the beach, etc. It also replaces note pads. I just ask people to email me the notes I need.

A subtle point: now, instead of making notes to myself about things that I need to do "when I get back to the office", I just do them (i.e. email a direction to someone when I first consider the issue). This has placed much more velocity into my life & decision making.

This product is addictive. You will love it.

Summary: Not a good fit for me
Review: This thing saved my life. I am chronically disorganized (always writing things down on slips of paper and losing them, forgetting appointments, and such). Well, now I have it all in one place and it nags me enough so I can't forget anything! I love these things.

The only reason I held back and gave it 4 stars instead of five is because it eats so many batteries I might have to get a second job soon just to keep it supplied. I have to replace the battery every 2 days or so, that seems to be an awful lot.

But the other functions more than make up for the battery-eating capacity! Don't let that deter you (plus you can always use the docking cradle and use A/C power when you're not on the go (not really often enough in my life for the docking cradle to be very useful though!)
