Summary: Powerful, small, slick....but little support
Review: Pros: The Psion Revo is a great hand held organizer. It is a perfect blend of functionality and design. The screen looks crisp and clear. The calendar program has a great look to it and is so easy to use. For those that demand a little more than just and organizer, it has great applications like word processing and spreadsheets that can seamlessly be used with MS Word and Excel. The small QWERTY keyboard take a while to get used to, but it once you've mastered it, it's defintely a time saver.

Cons: There is no where near the software support that there is for the Palm class of handhelds. If you want a lot of games, then you probably don't want the Revo. Also, Outlook 2000 isn't officially supported with their synchronization tool, PsiWin. While I had previously used Outlook 2000 just fine with it, I'm having problems now. It is a bit disconcerning to not have the most used office suite not supported. So all in all, great product in need of better software support.

Summary: Serious alternative to Palm and PocketPC
Review: Sometimes it is important to question the value of buying into the standard. In the case of PDAs, the argument is made that buying the standard (e.g., Palm) gives you access to more software, more compatibility, and a more secure future (since also-ran platforms tend to be discontinued). I suggest here, however, that you question those arguments. Most people never add software to their PDA (and if they do, they use it once or twice) and also will keep the device for a few years at best before replacing. The Psion Revo gives you all the great features of the other devices, a usable keyboard, nice design, and the ability to exchange information with a Palm via infrared (so you can zap you business card info too). Psion is very popular in Europe and deserves a shot in the US. If any event, however, most users will want to replace their device in 2-3 years because the technology keeps getting better! Worth serious consideration.

Summary: 4 years old - still the best PDA on the market !
Review: The only PDA that combines a good keyboard with the right "pocket" size. The revo is now 4 years old, but still the best PDA on the market. I especially enjoy quick and easy look-up in databases, help files, calender. In fact, eventhough I have a Win 2000 PC by my side, I choose the revo to look-up contacts, meetings etc - it's faster ! In addtion, the installed applications work fine: contacts, calender, database, word, sheet, jotter etc.

It's a pity the revo isn't developed any longer. It would have been great to see a new Revo-2004 including memory slots, MP3 player, color screen - but in the same casing.

Summary: revo review
Review: the revo is great feature-wise, except for one thing...no backlighting! this means that in the dark, you can't do anything! i'm thinking cinemas, pubs, darkened meeting rooms, etc. it's quite annoying. also, it's pretty tricky using the 'pen' and typing, especially if you don't have a flat surface to put it down on. other than that, it's pretty neat, especially the design.

Summary: pls give us a backlit screen
Review: The Revo is tremendous and powerful for a small, easy to pocket palmtop. I immediately bought a handwriting recognition program but found it to be slower than typing and less accurate. For a PDA at this price with a battery that doesn't need recharging for 12 hours of use, I'm very happy. However, a backlit screen would be a huge plus 20% of the time.

Summary: Like a Jaguar: sleek, in need of constant tinkering
Review: The Revo reminds me of a sleek product from another British company: the Jaguar. Like the Jag, the Revo is beautifully designed (including the EPOC OS) and amazingly powerful for its size. It'a also like a Jag in that you spend an awful lot of time tinkering with it to get it to run like it should. The problem is that the internal (and very hard to access) rechargable batteries are notoriously temperamental, meaning that you'll turn the thing on when it supposedly has a decent charge and...nothing. The Revo bulletin boards are filled with similar tales of woe. A pity, because this would otherwise have been an amazing machine.

Summary: Major battery problems
Review: This machine is almost perfect (all the praise you've read about it is true and more) except for one critical flaw.

Say you lose your charge on your cell phone. No big deal. BR>You charge it again, and it works like before; all your data is still there.

Not always so with the Revo! You lose charge, you lose your data, too! It happened twice for me (within about first 4 months of use). You have two make sure it doesn't drain all the way because it doesn't have a replaceable lithium backup batteries as did my other Psions. There are no replaceable batteries on the Revo! Everthing is closed. You should not let it sit without recharging; never for more than a week.

I owned FOUR Psions before this (Series 3, 3A, Siena, and 5), but never had this prob. One of my favorite programs was the multiple alarm on all my previous Psions which worked really well. This feature is now pretty much worthless on the Revo, once again thanks to the battery. Revo will most of the time refuse to run its alarm because of weak battery (which seems to be pretty much all the time weak!). It might ring for a few times and shut off by itself AUTOMATICALLY even though, say, I'm still sleeping or something.

Compare this to the Psion 5 or 5mx -- amazing battery life (I've gone over a month with the 5, but w/ Revo I charge every day), plus you can save your data on a CF card on the 5 or 5mx machines, so you don't lose your data even if you TOTALLY drain your 5mx's backup lithium battery (which realistically isn't so easy to do anyway).

I don't recommend the Revo unless you like backing up frequently. I got the Revo because some punk stole my 5 (that's how bad people want it when they see it). Consider a 5mx instead, a much better machine.

Everything else is perfect and Palms and PocketPCs can never match the elegant OS and software designs, so it still gets a four star rating.

Summary: Best of the best
Review: This machine is the best thing I've ever seen, a friend of mine got one and it's more powerful you can think. My father bought me one here in amazon, and I can't wait to receive it. There are many reasons to say this is the best choice. The system is very stable, fast and powerful. You can run many applications at the same time and it won't slow down or crash so easily (never!). Actually, the lack of software won't be a problem to me; I found all software I'll need to work well. During my research I found a lot of incredible games! Can you imagine playing 3D games in your hands? or building and managing your own city with simcity? It's hard to imagine, but psion processor is very powerful and fast, it can be compared to a 386, where games like simcity used to have their success. Many people complain because the lack of a backlight, I realized that I won't use the pen if I have the keyboard and the screen is touch sensitive, so I searched for the smallest flashlight here in amazon, and they recommended one at their trusted friend drugstore.com. I solved the backlight problem; I bought a maglite flashlight that is as big as a pen!! it can be hanged to your keys so I can carry it very easily. Psion revo will make my life easier; my friend use it a lot because at the university you need to keep track of projects, set appointments with other students, store the day of an exam, and a lot more. I will use it a lot in physics practice class because of statistics; the spreadsheet will do the job. And finally, I highly recommend to get one in amazon now! You are getting ... % offEND

Summary: Psion Revo Plus- my companion
Review: This would be my third Psion machine and my second Revo Plus. My first machine, a Series 5, had problems with the LCD screen. One day there's just this thin blue line across... then I bought a Revo Plus... until it got stolen... then I got myself another Revo Plus... since I backed my Revo regularly.. I had the new one just like the 'old' one if you knew what I mean.. :)

Why a Psion? I see the Psion as an extension to my Notebook. I am an engineer and quality inspector by profession and I found it indespensible. I can jot down and write my reports, pages of them on the go... runs on batteries.. one charge lasts quite a while... i can do spreadsheets... and they are all Office compatible! Back at the office I'll just print(beam) to the laser printer(with IR port) without even uploading it up to my notebook/PC. Talk about convenience and productivity! Sure, softwares are hard to find but how much softwares do you actually need? I also use a software to sync with my Nokia handphone via the IR. Backed up my entire address book and messages.Composing messages is faster on Psion than on the Nokia keypads... :) My Psion and Nokia goes hand in hand...
One of my key selection factor was the keyboard. I needed a 'proper' keyboard for my reports. I had use a Palm, Casio Pocket Viewer and other 'small' PDAs.. I had try using latest PocketPC hardwares and not to mention other PALMOS machines.. in the end of the day, its the PSION that is useable as far as I am concern.

If u need color, sound (mp3), backlight.. stay away but if you wanna replace the good old Organizer and much more and get things done, this is it! They don't design and make things like they used to...
BTW, all my Psion are seconds/used..
