Rating: Summary: best of the best Review: A great product for trips, keeps you organized and you can read books that are thousands of pages long in one little electronic device. I like the music feature too, but you have to buy more memory though. overal its the best.
Rating: Summary: The Most for My Money Review: Before I decided to buy my EBM-901, I did some research on a lot of the PDAs around. I found that the EBM-901 gave me a lot of functionality for what I was willing to pay.I like the PDA features. The link to Outlook was a godsend, with the multitude of addresses I keep. The one thing I would like to see different is the security feature. Right now you must password the entire OS, as opposed to specific entries in the memo application, for example. I also like the music capability, the games, and the eBook feature. Having not used other eBook readers, I find this one quite adequate for my needs. The Franklin viewer is a little more difficult to maneuver around, as you cannot place a bookmark, therefore it takes a while to find where you left off. Perhaps the MobiReader is better. I did experience a battery problem, but that was quickly solved by Franklin Electronics when I contacted them. They replaced my EBM-901 without a hitch, paying all shipping. The downloading of my OS was quite easy and the Intellisync feature is quick. As I read all about the eBookman before I bought my unit, to include downloading the user's manual and studying it, I was prepared for what I got. I am quite satisfied with my unit and recommend that others check it out. Franklin Electronics has made quite a few improvements on the units based on user feedback. The fact that the OS is downloadable and therefore easily upgradeable, definitely makes this a keeper.
Rating: Summary: educational tool Review: Cheap but good as an educational tool for learning about palms. I bought a display model for 40 bucks. The device allows you to experience all of the limitations a palm has to offer without spending a fortune. You get to hone your skills at finding elusive free online books, manipulating doc formats, goof with sync issues, toy with stylus menus, and experiment with unusual mini programs. There is some neat software that has been written for this little guy (bible, pic capture, classic book category setup, etc.) and it is fun fooling with it. Screen is big but makes for a poor contrast in reading attempts, accessory kit is nicely adequate, and the batteries are common but lacking. MMC the store guy sold me for the pseudo-palm wouldnt work in it but hey no worries it works for my camera right. MP3 player, unless you can get a card that fits- forget it, memory is mini. Franklin had a great idea but kinda bombed on the delivery. As a productivity tool, I would rank this one as a big nil. However, if you want an educational Saturday afternoon project (you know, for when you finally get that dual boot linux\ winxp on a mac project outa the way) then this little monster is forty bucks you wont mind parting with.
Rating: Summary: Data clears with battery change Review: Each time you replace the battery you have to reload all of your data. Don't waste your money on this one.

Rating: Summary: OK as PDA maybe, no good as an eBook Review: Everything you read in the other reviews is correct. The product is buggy and does not work anywhere near as advertised. PDA users seem satisfied with it, but I bought it as an eBook -- BIG MISTAKE. Even if they had decent software to load your text into Franklin format (their "tools" run under a Unix emulator on Windows, badly) and even if it read HTML files (you can download it quick enough, but you'll wait TWENTY MINUTES after you click the button to see the text), the screen is too small and battery life too short. Just say no. This is not an eBook.
Rating: Summary: This purchase a mistake Review: Had trouble with this model from the time I took it out of the box. After loading the software from the CD, my PC crashed several times before I could finally get the software to load correctly. Then I couldn't connect to the Internet site to download the OS software needed to use the reader (why didn't they load this at the factory ??!!). Its now been two days and that site is still not available per Franklin's Tech Services who said "just keep trying, we're working on it." I hope so, 'cause this piece of junk is going back to the store tomorrow if I can't download the software.

Rating: Summary: Franklin is among the worst companies in the world Review: I absolutely hate Franklin. I regret ever purchasing anything from Franklin. I bought an ebookman and was dissappointed. I was promised Microsoft Reader support, Franklin changed its mind. I made the incredible mistake of purchasing two titles from Frankling and hated viewing them on the terrible ebookman device. I now own a pocket pc and now conduct business with more reputible companies. I do however wish that the purchase of the two Franklin titles were not a complete loss, and I have downloaded the Franklin reader for my pocket pc, but I cannot read the titles I purchased. Nobody at Franklin support seems to respond to my inquiries. I now accept that I simply made a terrible mistake doing business with Franklin. I know that this item seems cheap, and you most likely think that you have little to lose. But you have quite a lot to lose if you are tricked in believing that the ebookman is a decent device for the money. You will waste your time fiddling with it. You will be inclined to purchase titles from Franklin or Mobipocket because you won't be able to read anything else on it. You might even decide to buy a memory card for it (only supports mmc). You could turn a $50 item into a $100 or more investment, and you will eventually be very bitter to find that you wasted so much time and money on a product and company that aren't worth a few cents. I now own an iPaq pocket pc. Indeed these options are more expensive, but only by $50 to $100 if you go the very cheap route. But in the end you will be able to use mainstream technoology such as Microsoft Reader and Adobe Acrobat instead of the shoddy proprietary Franklin technology. You will regret ANY business with Franklin. If you see the Franklin label, run! You have been warned. Thanks.
