Summary: Can't Connect Online
Review: The iPAQ H3650 has great features, and a fast processor, which makes it perform like a laptop, but Compaq has dropped the ball not including an Expansion Pack with the Unit. I can't buy one anywhere, and Compaq claims they won't have them available at the Direct Plus Store for another month or longer! I purchased the Hand Held to connect online with Internet Explorer for Pocket PC. You cannot do that with this device as it ships from Compaq. You need the Jacket, or Pack with a PC or CF Slot in it. The other two brands have the slot in the units, and I am seriously considering switching to one of them. Sorry Compaq, but a High End user wants the connectivity!

Summary: Available soon... When?
Review: This is starting to look like a typical MS-Windows release. First, Compaq said that the new Ipaq Pocket PC will be released on June. Then, it was announced to be released on July 1st. Then, early July, then, July 15th. So today it's July 24th and it is still unavailable. I've been to Europe and I looked for it on-line as well, nothing. And the Compaq site says: "Available soon..." -- yeah, right! At this rate, there would be newer and better models before I will ever get my hands on the H3650/H3600/whatever...

Summary: Compaq iPAQ H3650 May be the "one" for you!
Review: Just got mine and I must say this is a solid unit!

Most of the reviews I have read here are a good eval of this product. However some are misleading in regards to the following information:

1. Some are saying that because the battery is built in it cannot be replaced. But it can be replaced (maybe even on warrenty) by a compaq service rep (says so right on the service sheet). While this is more annoying than putting in some new AA's it shouldn't happen very often with the new lithium polymer battery.

2. Some are quite satisfied with the screen, but be aware that a side by side comparison with a casio 105 or 115 would make the Ipaq's screen appear "milky". The screen on the Ipaq also sits a little deeper than the screen on the Casio. In my opinion the screen on the Casio 105-115 is currently the best with the most "Laptop" like screen. Don't let this discourage you though, the screen is still quite bright and readable.

Some other observations about my unit:

The USB connection on Windows 2000 is a bit finiky. Mine sometimes does not connect and I have to unplug it or restart my machine or play around with the connection stuff to get it to reconnect (it gets even worse after waking up from sleep or hibernate modes). This may be a problem with ActiveSync 3.1 though.

The auto-brightness feature is not tunable, so if you enable it you are stuck with what it feels is "bright enough" for your use. For me it needs to be brighter.

Dispite these observations I am happy with it's price, speed and form. I would definately get this unit if you are considering a Pocket PC!

Summary: How's this go as an MP3 player?
Review: I'm considering getting one of these but I also need an MP3 player. With the compact flash expansion how does it compare to a purpose built MP3 player like the diamond rios?

Summary: Phone Support leaves product out in space
Review: I went out on a limb and bought 10 of these for my company leadership. They look great, but getting any useful information from Compaq is a joke. These things don't run on NT out of the box not that anyone tells you that. Compaq has no clue when the serial cradle will be available (they don't even claim to sell them) and I was transferred 4 times to get that information. We chose Compaq over HP based on customer support. At this point I'm thinking of sending all of them back and getting HPs since it seems that they are both at the same level.

Summary: Ok Player
Review: This product looks and sounds great. Only if someone can get their hands on it. Everyone should cancel their order so I can get mine first. Thanks

Summary: I love this thing!
Review: I ordered my iPaq from Egghead in mid-May. It finally arrived last week. I've played with the Casios and the HPs, and the iPaq's main advantage is speed. Of course, in my opinion, the design is better also. (But everyone's entitled to their opinion.) You've all read the glowing reviews of the iPaq, so I won't rehash the good stuff - I'll just say most of it is true.

Now for the bad: There's almost ZERO documentation with this thing. There's a quick start guide, a bunch of offers for add-ons, a registration card, and that's about it. I'm guessing the documentation is on one of the CDs, but I'm too lazy to go searching for it. The stylus is eliptical, so be careful which way you stick it in. (Mine has already gotten jammed in the wrong way...just yank it out with a pair of pliers). The leather slip case feels cheap, and I've not found a good replacement yet.

As far as battery life goes, I can get about 8 hours of steady use between charges. It takes 2-3 hours to charge from empty.

The screen is bright, and has settings to adjust brightness to save battery life, etc.

Basically, this thing does everything a laptop does...it's as simple as that.

Summary: IPAQ needs to be seen
Review: I was lucky enough to get my Ipaq on June 23rd, and it is far superior to any other Organizer / Pocket PC or whatever small device you can think of. It's great as a:

PIM: Outlook is great, I've been using it and have easily been able to quickly go through at times 100's of emails in my inbox and keep 350 contacts at my fingertips, not to mention calendaring and todo's.

E-book: I've already read Timeline and a couple of Gutenberg Project books on this thing. That alone makes it awesome. MS Cleartype makes it enjoyable to read an ebook anywhere.

Mapping Tool: I've got a 3MB map of my hometown in here that is very quick to work with in finding an address, restaurant, you name it. Much faster than previous versions.

SpreadSheet: Pocket Excel is very useful. I'm using a 5-sheet spreadsheet to manage costs, financing and taxes on a new home purchase.

Browser: AvantGo, after a few weeks, now works like a champ on the IPAQ.

Games: If Pacman is any indication, this will be be console quality competition by Christmas.

...Now if we could just have unlimited wireless access for $20 a month at 56kbs.

Summary: A PDA with Elegance!
Review: Ok, so I received mine in late June...guess that's the benefit from ordering it long before it comes available.

It is the most ELEGENT PDA I've ever seen or owned. It's such a great balance between power, features, size, speed and durability. Hats off to Compaq for pushing the envelope, and hats off to Microsoft for taking a MARKET approach...letting the manufactures control the PDA design process (rather than the Apple approach Palm took).

I LOVE THIS PDA!

Pocket Streets, MP3's, books, and of course, the standard features one would expect in a Windows device. More than that, though, the size is FABULOUS...and the color brilliant...and is it ever FAST!

Now if I can only find flight itinerary software to install, and a PowerPoint viewer, I'd be set.

Summary: I love it !
Review: I got my "Dream come true" IPaq about 5 days ago. As an old Palm pilot user who upgraded to an HP Jornada, this Compaq device beats them ALL easily out of competition. This device can truly be anything , anywhere, anytime - Given you install the correct hardware and software to it ;)

The speaker is really amazing when playing an MP3 , it's just like a miniture boombox. Plug in your headphones and you got an MP3 player ! Download the Pocket TV software and you can watch movies on this baby anywhere ! I personally thought that alone was worth the price of this gadget, but that is not all it is capable of. It can handle almost all the necesarry work that is needed to be done on a laptop or desktop computer. Preinstalled software of Word ,Outlook ,and the Pocket Street makes this device really involved in your everyday lifestyle.

Battery is impressing. It survived a whole 15-hour workday with me of average use. (No Videos)

All in all , I take my hats OFF to compaq for creating such a great product ;)
