Summary: Palm Pilot Perfection at last.
Review: Finally, Palm has produced the perfect PDA, the Tungsten E. I loved my first Palm, an m500 because the battery lasted a week. Then, I liked the bright color screen of my Tungsten T, but I wanted more memory. When the under $199 Tungsten E came along and another doctor in the hospital showed it to me, I had to try it. The battery lasts and lasts and lasts. The hotsync is so much faster and it uses a generic USB cable instead of the $50 palm cradle. I love that because I sync at work and home. The screen is so sharp. I carry seven big medical textbooks on my 256meg expansion card, as well as many MP3's. The Tungsten E opens those files just as fast as the files in main memory. And, for the first time, I figured out how to download all my Yahoo email into the device each time I hotsync. I also download about 3megs from Avantgo each sync and it takes about 60 seconds. Finally, Palm Pilot Perfection.

Summary: Awesome AND Affordable
Review: I have been a Sony Clie user for about 5 years. Needless to say, I've been disappointed with the display of the new color screens that Sony has released the past 2 years-- leading me not to upgrade. I'm glad I waited. I'm a stay at home Mom and I don't need anything fancy, but this also satisfied my aesthetic needs. The display is incredible! No matter how dark or bright it may be, inside or outside-- you can read it. I've downloaded pictures of my family into my Tungsten-- beautiful and sharp! Even though it doesn't have a weekly calendar display, because of the color options you have with dates, appointments, etc. it does make it easier to look through your schedule at a glance. Palm support was incredibly helpful when i was trying to hotsync and get my info' from my old Clie to my new Tungsten. Last, but certainly not least-- what a great price for everything you get in this PDA. Bravo Palm!

Summary: Excellent value for money
Review: I've been researching PDAs for quite some time and this one is - by far - the best value for money.

Pros:
- Bright, easy to read screen
- Loud audio via standard headphone jack (speaker there as well)
- Excellent suite of applications including standard organizer programs (ToDo, Calendar, Contacts etc) as well as other applications like DocsToGo (edit/view Microsoft Word, Excel and PPT files), adobe acrobat, versamail (for email), kinoma player (for movies) etc...
- Excellent stylus. Be careful about this! Most people write off the stylus as 'inconsequential' - but if you're going to be writing, then it has to 'feel' comfortable - or you won't use your PDA!
- Reliable. All my alarms have gone off in the right time. All my reminders are correct. This is _really_ important to me. I bought the pda to organize my life and if I can't rely on it - I won't use it...
- Good size. Its slim enough for daily use, but solid enough that you don't feel as its going to break if you use it. This feels like a well constructed PDA
SD card slot. You can buy large size SD cards and even put mp3s on your SD card (and play it using the included RealOne player)
- Responsive - all the apps I use feel good on this pda. There are no delays and things appear fast on the screen. Granted - I don't play demanding games - but that's not what I'm using this pda for
- Price! This is an excellent bargain for the money you spend.

Cons:
-One major thing that strikes me is that the stitching on the included flip cover scratches the Tungsten E! Please keep this in mind. When other people informed me of this, I didn't use the flip cover again. I _personally_ didn't think that it was important enough to detract from the rest of the pda. _But_ I think it is important to let other people know about this!
-The down button on my little navigator pad is stiff. I've heard that it improves with use but its a niggling detail that I believe mars an otherwise excellent product

-No bluetooth or wifi. You are limited to IR. Since this is a value PDA, it has no wireless options. If you're looking for options, you should consider a bluetooth SD card or another PDA.

Because of the included flip cover scratching the case I would have liked to give a 4.5 - but since I can't - I'll give it a 5 (why - because I feel its great value for money!).

Summary: Warning
Review: Just a note: Everyone thinks this thing is made out of plastic. I bought one, and it is steel, very durable (so it seems.) Yes, it's really shiny and pretty but it's STEEL! (oh and it's much better looking than any others.. hehe)

This guy screems with speed, I have it totally loaded with all my apps + a full SD card with mp3s. This is really easy and fun to use. Very sold feel, love the standard miniusb cable (even though I have 3 of these dumb cradles.)

Summary: My experience with the T|E
Review: Pros:

- Screen is amazingly vivid and bright! Photos, games and graphics look terrific on this screen!

- It is pretty thin and light! Not bulky in your pant or jean pockets (unless you wear them very tight- which isn't good anyway!)

- Decent RealOne MP3 player included. You can play MP3s and switch and work in other apps, though working with another demanding app will cause the music to skip and become choppy.

However, as long as you're working in a regular app (like any of the basic included apps- Memo, Datebook, Calculator, etc. or most other Palm apps) there's no problem.

- The standard SD slot is very convenient

- Truly a great price for a handheld like this.

- Battery life is decent.

- Included Mac support, except for the touted Office compatibility.

Cons:

- No Palm Universal Connector, but this is a small sacrifice for the price and features of this handheld.

- Metallic finish is collects finger prints and more importantly, is extremely scratch prone and is damaged VERY easily. The case of the T|E itself seems to be plastic, with a metallic finish over. The included Palm Flip cover apparently actually DAMAGES the finish. Many users report having their T|E's casing damaged in the first day. I had mine slightly scratched in the first few days of light use.

- Down button is a little hard to use, at least at first. With use, this seems to go away. Not a major issue, in my opinion.

- RealOne Player does not play AAC format (Probably more of an issue for Mac users).

- Slow running more demanding applications. I bought the Sega Classics card along with the unit. The games are playable, but they run rather slow, particularly Sonic Adventure (even the music is somewhat slow!). Also a warning about the Sega Classics card- It seems to be designed not to allow you to copy the games into your T|E's internal memory.

Power & Hotsync:

The T|E does not come with a cradle. Instead it uses a standard mini to regular USB adaptor for hotsync-ing and a standard AC adaptor for power. The USB cable can trickle charge the T|E, though this is slow compared to plugging it in to the AC adaptor. Some may view this as an advantage, while others may view it as a disadvantage. This is not really an issue for me, though.

Conclusion:

I'm pretty satisfied with my T|E, however, you might want to take these things, particularly the scratch prone casing, into consideration. It will force you to invest into a probably expensive case, at least, if you want to protect the delicate casing finish. If you don't care about the look of your PDA's casing, then it's not a problem at all.

Overall, this is a really great, feature filled PDA for a most reasonable price! I'd give it a 4.5, but as another reviewer noted, you can't!

See the PalmInfoCenter.com and BrightHand.com Forums for more user experiences.

Summary: Easy Winner.
Review: No cradle, but uses a STANDARD miniusb cable... same one as my Intel mp3 player and olympus digicam in fact. Even charges via usb (though slower than witht the included ac adapter,) not bad at all. Bye-bye to my cradles.

Gorgeous screen, very high resolution is easy on my eyes. Still fits in my pocket like the M505, with my wallet :)

Comes with tons of great software, had no trouble with word, excel, powerpoint, videos, pictures, (stuff beyond what I even want this organizer for.) All my old info imported without a hitch, right from Outlook.

Versamail works fine, even sees my exchange server, etc. Doesn't crash like some people said- as long as you spend the time to properly set it up!

The screen is ultra-sensitive.. barely needs a tap. Even comes with a screen protector (that plastic film.)

Body is made of metallic plastic like the IPaq.. looks shiny like a mirror, and seems durable (not like the cheap paint on phones.) Very classy looking left-folding cover to protect the screen when it's in your pocket.

Down-button is a little hard to push. oh well.

I use this for the calendar, appointments, contacts, and foreign dictionaries (they run a lot faster on the internal memory now.. don't need the SD card.) UPDATE: Just put in a ton of mp3s on an SD card and this thing is amazing. It can even drive my Sennheiser HD-580 headphones =) (Yes it's a STANDARD 3.5mm plug!!)

Summary: Wonderful Palm, some software issues
Review: I purchased my Palm E at an office supply store before the official release date of 10/1. During installation of software, I discovered that there was no way I could load the basic calculator and the "Expense" icons and programs onto the handheld. When I called Palm, tech support refused to support it until 10/1. After 10/1 tech support was wonderful. The web site was not helpful in getting the Expense and Calculator programs loaded onto the handheld. Tech support had me go into the installation CD and manually load the programs to the handheld, and it worked. If you have a similar problem in getting the Expense program to install onto the handheld, call Tech Support.

Another annoyance - the PDA Money program is a demo program, and because of this there is no way to download data from the handheld to your desktop/laptop. Nowhere does it say the program is a demo until you go to the PalmOne website and look under "Support". The site states that to download from your PDA to your desktop, you need to purchase the whole program from Handmark.com.

This is my third Palm, and is by far the best. (I had a 100 and 105 previously.) I use Quickword, and it runs seamlessly, and quickly. All programs run quickly, with no crashes. I like not having a cradle, and is one of the reasons I bought the E. I want to travel light, without the encumbrance of a cradle. Hot-synching is easy, even though I miss the button on the hotsynch cable. Battery life so far has been good, and I use my Palm constantly. The battery quickly recharges. I looked at other Tungstens and the Zire 71, Pocket PCs, and Sony Clies. I highly recommend this Palm. I find that the Tungsten E is plenty fast, is well priced for the features, and has lots of storage. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Summary: Best Palm yet
Review: Dollar for dollar this is the best unit that Palm has produced. It's got a beutiful hi-res screen. It's got 32 megs of internal memory (finally an adequate amount in a Palm OS device!). It's got a speedy 126mhz processor. It plays MP3s at a nice volume with headphones (it will even play them out of the built-in speaker, which is cute in an Alvin & the Chipmonks sort of way, but not that useful) And it's got that wonderful slim, form factor for which Palm branded devices are famous. Yeah, Palm and Sony produce machines with bigger screens and faster processors, but the premium you pay just doesn't justify the purchase. And honestly, the form factor of the Palm Tungsten T3 and the sony Clié UX50 includes too many compromises. I mean, what's up with Palm's obsession with silly sliding mechanisms? And what's up with Sony's landscape only orientation on the UX50 (not to mention seven-oh-oh samolean pricetag!) or those other over-laden bricks that feel more like small notebooks than PDAs. At two C-notes, the Tungsten E is cheap enough that, even if you do become seduced by the next great model coming down the pipe in a year or two, you won't feel guilty about having bought this one in the meantime.

So go for it. This Palm rox my world!

Summary: A SENSATIONAL VALUE! BUT NO CRADLE!
Review: Hving used palms since 1996, most recently an M500, I was very interested when I saw the "E". HALF THE PRICE of the other very cool color Tungstens!

Stunning screen, beautiful case, lightning fast, extremely responsive to the touch, improved Graffiti, and on and on.

They had to cut corners somwhere: no sliding cover, no keyboard built-in and no wireless, cheesy blister packaging.
But, I did not want any of those features!

NOW the bummer: NO cradle! It just lies on the desk -- one cable for Hotsync (USB) and another for power! And there is not a cradle you can buy as an extra! What royal pain!

Still, this is a great unit and a superb value!
