Review: After hearing one of my friends rave about Harley, Like A Person, I decided I had to read it. I picked it up one day and saved it for a long plane ride. The moment I opened its pages, I was pulled into Harley's world. Few authors have a talent like that of Ms. Bauer: the talent to pull readers into their literature so that one feels that he or she is hanging on to every word, that his or her breath moves with the rythm of that of the character, that one feels like they ARE the character for a moment.

I, being a teenager (and one who does not exactly have a storybook relationship with my family and friends), can relate to Harley so much at times, it is almost scary. I came to the point where I found myself hoping for her to come out unscarred, as if she were a real person.

I realize I am rambling, but perhaps one has the right to ramble over a single book that allowed them to see life through the eyes of someone else, someone that seemed to come alive right from the pages.

I do not want to spoil anything for you, as it is the most fun to read a novel if you do not know what's coming. All I can say is that, if you are open-minded (and human), you will find yourself relating to Harley, no matter how different you may be from her character. Sure, everyone will not have the same raving opinions of it as I do, but if you read this novel, I can almost guarentee that you will like, if not ADORE, it.

Review: Harley Columba is a normal fourteen year old girl except for the fact that she must deal with her crazy mother and her always drunk and violent father. Her only passions and outlets are when she's painting and listening to John Lennon. But one day Harley finds a Harliquin doll with a sweet note saying "A Harliquin for my Harleykins Love, Daddy" and she's convinced that her father is not truely her father... Will Harley find what she's looking for?

This was a good book. You can relate to Harley so much and you just can't wait to get to the conclusion to see what happens.

Harley Like a Person is a wonderful story of girls fight against the people she can’t stand, her parents, and for the things she loves, like painting. Her life seems to start falling apart when she starts to believe she is adopted and her abusive parents won’t hear a word of it. She finds comfort in art, something her parents say is frivolous and too expensive. Harley struggles to find out where she comes from, all while holding what seems like the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Cat Bauer has the best character development I have ever read. It is so easy to get into the characters, they are so detailed, so heart felt, and so real. You crack open the book and suddenly you are Harley, struggling to juggle home and school life.You look out her blackened eyes, glaring at her drunken father. You feel the hate and fear whenever he walks into the room. Never has a book felt so real to me.
I recommend this book to anyone who has the chance to read it. It is compelling and fills you with overwhelming emotion. Never have I had such hatred for a character in a book, as I had for the people who were tying Harley down. You’ll be surprised by how much emotion can come out of the written word. [...]

Review: I love this book. It teaches the values of how you shouldnt take drugs, and shows how a true teenager acts. Believe me, I know from experience, since I am a teenager myself, and understand not to take drugs, because of this book, and many others. I love this book and reccomend this to all teenagers, and mothers of teenagers.

Review: If you like books that will draw you into the real life of a girl on the wrong track then this is it. I read it in 2 days. When your parents lie to you your whole life about who your father is you would flip too. Harley is an artist who is in a swirl of lies and doesn't know what to do. Her friend pretty much leaves her to fend for her self and her parents act like they don't care. She meets a boy who takes her to parties and does drugs. That doesn't last long. She soon goes in search of who her real father is.
This is a great book with a twist of an ending.

Review: It's truly hard to believe that this was Cat Bauers first book! I read this a few months after one of my friends had read it, and absolutley loved it. It was the kind of book that made you laugh and cry, and sometimes even relate to. Harley's life spirals out of control as she searches for her own identity. On her downwards fall she loses her best friend, but gains another, when she begins a new relationship with a boy. This ends up getting her into a lot of trouble with her cruel and dysfunctional parents, and Harley rebels. Will her life get any better, or will it continue its downward climb untill its too much to bare?

Review: this book was definitely one that i could read 1000 times over again. being an artist, i can really relate to harley, the main character of the book. in the story, she finds a clown in her attic from her father, but the handwriting is not her fathers, so she begins to believe that shes adopted. her family makes her unhappy, and she starts to go downhill. she loses her best friend, hangs out with juvenile delinquents, and starts doing badly in school. and as most would think that her character would deteriorate, she actually becomes more brilliant and more beautiful with every page. id definitely recommend it. people who like authors like steven chbosky and melvin burgess would love this book.

Review: This is one of those books that's so beautifully painful, so gorgeously tragic, you can't help but love it. Harley is a fourteen-year-old girl, and she's just starting to figure it all out. She makes her bad choices (which in reflection can be good):

Boyfriend: Evan, school [addict]

Parents: Peppy the boisterous alarm clock-voiced mother, the father Harley can't believe is hers.

Deep secret: She finds a harlequin in the attic with a gift card reading: A harlequin for my Harly-kins- your daddy loves you. Harley knows this is not from "her father" she lives with.

It's an inspiring novel and an enlightening look at real teen life. Harley has a long road ahead of her at the end, but a solid start on finding herself in life. You have to read this one.
