Rating: Summary: Possibly the best book ever! Review: I absolutely loved this book. I've read it countless times. The main character, Remy feels like someone you would know and is easily relatable. She just graduated from high school, and can't wate till she can go to college. All she is looking for is a crefree summer. Then she meets Dexter, a musician (which she has practaly sworn she will never date because her dad was a musician) and my favorite character in the book. The entire story is creative and funny and even a little sad (but shocking). I loved it and would recomend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Good in a good way Review: I am pretty sure this is the first 'romance' novel that I have ever read. Although the story is typical... dorky-boy-makes-pretty-girl-fall-for-him-by-being-persistent... it is not boring. Though the plot is predictable, the writing is fun and the author captures the attitudes of the characters very precisely.
I liked this book because I could relate to Remy, the main character, who has all but given up on finding true and lasting love. Remy is cynical having seen her mother marry 5 different men. I like Remy's no-nonsense attitude although some would say she is a b*tch.
As for cheesy teenage love stories,( have only read this one), I would say it is a good book. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light, fun read.
Rating: Summary: live for today Review: i feel like this book shows girls like me a way to love agian. having a guy break your heart from time to time or just not believing in love can make you depressed. this book opened up my eyes and made me realize to love. let people in your life. love life! live for not yesterday or tomorrow but for today!!!
Rating: Summary: typical teenager Review: i thought that this book was okay but highly unoriginial. the girl was a slut, and a loser and i guess just your average teenager today this book lacked an interesting plot
Rating: Summary: Great... Review: i tried reading this once before, but i couldn't get into it. After reading Dessens: The Truth About Forever, i decided to give This Lullaby another try. I'll admit i had to get to page 50 before i couldn't put it down. Once i got past one point, it was the best. You can't help falling in love with Dexter, who's witty comments will make you smile. Great book.
Rating: Summary: This Lullaby Review: If you had read any other Sarah Dessen books you might have noticed that they focus around similar themes and topics. I can guarantee that This Lullaby will not disappoint you; whether you're familiar with her writing or not. Personally, I enjoyed this book. What was so great about it was Remy, the main character's, view on life. She had a very negative outlook on love and relationships. In a sense she believed that love had given up and no longer would be able to exist in her life, but she was wrong and eventually learned that.
The novel's theme was proven in so many levels through many minor characters and of course the main. First of all, I believed the theme was never give up on love because it won't give up on you. It was nicely stated in the book as misplacing love not losing it. At first it seems as though the author is trying to prove the accuracy of Remy's, negative attitude about relationships then suddenly, a conflict is created to contradict it. The long and complicated process of proving the theme explains the complexity of love.
Not to tell the whole story, I'll just end this by saying that it doesn't end in a way that you might predicted. The incalculable ending only helps you grasp more of the story and relate it to your own life. I highly recommend anyone to read this book especially young-adults and teens. Hopefully, after reading this novel you'll learn something important lessons about life and grow as a person.
Rating: Summary: Dessen Does It Again! Review: If you haven't read any of Sarah Dessen's previous novels then you're in for a real treat. In "This Lullaby" the main character, Remy, has completely given up on love and all of its aspects. She even has a formula, if you will, that she uses to dump her boyfriends. The novel starts with Remy planning her famous mother's fifth wedding. Her mother, Barbara Starr, romance novelist extraordinaire, hasn't been able to get any of her previous marriages to work but has high hopes for this one to Don, owner of a local Toyota dealership. And Remy introduces "This Lullaby", the popular song written for her by her biological father, which is still played by local musicians today. Remy has just graduated from high school and is going to attend Stanford in the fall. In order to leave "without any attachments", Remy carefully plans to dump her current boyfriend, Jonothan, so she can accomplish her goals this summer-leaving her home and starting a new life on the west coast with no ties to her past. Her friends, Chloe, Lissa, and Jess, support her and her pessimism about love until she encounters one boy that throws off her carefully structured world.Sarah Dessen is brilliant in her newest novel. Her witty style and sense of humor are prominent once again. This is a great summer read for anyone who enjoys a good laugh and a great story full of twists and turns with a stunning conclusion.
Rating: Summary: Perfect "Lullaby" Review: Last night, in spite of a migraine headache, I stayed up to finish THIS LULLABY by Sarah Dessen. That is a testament to how engrossing her novels are. The main character, Remy, does not believe in love after watching her mother go through marriage after marriage. Remy never knew her father, a rock star who wrote a song for her called "This Lullaby" which was a smash hit but included the line, "I will let you down." Remy is hesitant to get too close to people. Having seen so many men come in and out of her mother's life, she thinks that most people will hurt you and that most relationships are only temporary, so why get attached? She prefers to push them away instead - until Dexter stumbles into her life, pursues her and refuses to let her run away. Though Remy is not a romantic girl, she's had her share of boyfriends. Though she may be cyncial, she is not cold nor a "loner," enjoying the company of her three very different friends, Jess, Chloe and Lissa; her mother, a writer; and her older brother, who is slowly changing due to the influence of his prim and proper girlfriend. Remy has a life, a job, a love for Zip Diet Coke. After working her tail off in high school and proving everyone wrong about her, she has a future at Stanford. This book accurately shows how the summer between high school and college can change a person - and how, though others can influence you, you have to want to change in order for it to be true and beneficial. I highly recommend all of Dessen's novels, with SOMEONE LIKE YOU and THIS LULLABY being the best of the bunch. Realistic and unpredictable, heartbreaking and heartwarming, THIS LULLABY is a must-read.
Rating: Summary: Remy: Wry Perspective on Love. Dexter: Not Taking No Review: Remy. Daughter of the repeatedly marrying and divorcing mother. Sister of the lizard collecting slobbish brother. That was her family and her life consisted of dating boys and breaking up with them before they got serious. Before she had a chance to fall in love. Of course she didn't want that to happen so she just broke it off when the time felt appropiate.
Fast fowarding through some of the story and we meet Dexter. Quirky, sloppy, musician. Three traits Remy wouldn't want in a boyfriend. But that darn lovable Dexter had to go and manage to keep Remy his even though he eats in her car, make useless bets, and keep a dirty dog named Monkey. What is this? Remy should have broken up with this fool a long time ago, but she ends up doing favors for him which raises the eyebrow of her best friends who knows Remy as the one who breaks up a guy before it seemed like it could get serious.
Worse, as Remy continues to date Dexter, her mother seemed to love her new husband, and her brother has changed completely for a nice rich girl. In Remy's mind, everyone is crazy to "fall in love" and yet she can't part from Dexter.
This is a very nice mixture of situational humor, conflicts, and of course, romance tied in together. Every character is unique in a way that it's hard to put it down. Make sure you don't stay up too late on a school night reading this.
Rating: Summary: This lullaby can really lull the reader hahaha not funny Review: This book is pretty great, I've read another one of Sarah Dessen's books and am really beginning to like her style.
This novel is about Remy, a tough, independant girl who doesn't believe in true love and romance. Her mother has had a million break-ups and a job as a romance writer to boot. One day, she meets Dexter, a guy who is so totally her opposite and not exactly her type, yet....somehow, she like's his funny, artistic, smart (i don't kno) personality. What will happen in this story?
