Rating: Summary: Suprisingly touching reading aimed at preteens Review: I read this several years ago, and I still regard Maisie Potter as one of the best female protagonists of our time. She is deliciously defiant, taking on her school, the boys, the town, and even other towns as well. With memorable characters including a sleepover-ready mom and Bernadette the Rat, There's a Girl in my Hammerlock is wrought with truly exceptional writing that is paradoxically accessible to the kids' reading levels. Parents should definitely grab this book when their kids aren't looking and give it a read too. True to life, and not always happy. Really solid stuff.
Rating: Summary: There's a girl in my hammerlock Review: In the book There's a Girl in my Hammerlock, a girl wants to go out for the wrestling team. Her teammates make fun of her and treat her extremely badly at first. Then toward the end of the book she gains the respect of her teammates, and makes lots of new friends. It is a good book except that in my opinion, a woman would rather read this book over a man. I say that because the book deals with women's rights. A women would like to read about a girl beating all odds in my opinion, and a guy would rather read about an exciting book about murder or something like that...
Rating: Summary: There's a Girl in my Hammerlock Review: In There's a Girl in my Hammerlock, many exciting things happen. First, Maisie Potter tries out for the cheer squad because Liz's boyfriend, Eric is in a way part of it. Maisie wants to get closer to him. Then she finds out that he is on the wrestling team so she tries out too. She gets embarrassed, and worse she has to do monkey rolls by herself. She gets tortured, kissed and wins her first wrestling match. I would reccomend this book to anybody who likes page turners.
Rating: Summary: There's A Girl In My Hammerlock Review: There's A Girl In My Hammerlock is written by Jerry Spinelli. The publisher is Half Moon Books. It is about a girl named Maisie who tries out for the cheer squad, but doesn't make it. Then to get a little closer to Eric Delong, she goes out for the wrestling team and makes it, despite everyone really dsen't want her to. The main characters are Maisie a girl who strives for what she wants, Eric, Liz's boyfriend, Liz, a true cheerleader, her family, the wrestling team and finally Tank, P.K Maisie's litlle sister's best bud. There was a little suspense. For example, how was Maisie going to do on the wresting team? Exacly how close was she going to get to Eric? I would like to recommend this book because it tells how Maisie had courage and struggled to get her way even though it was hard, as a woman.
Rating: Summary: This book was very neat and interesting. Review: This book is about a girl named Maisie who doesn't make the cheerleading squad so she joins the all boys wrestling team to be by Eric Delong the most popular jock in the school. One problem is the head cheerleader also likes Eric. Maisie decides to stay on the wrestling team, but she notices that she startes to lose all her friends. Maisie as usual is not going to get Eric but they still remain friends with each other. This book is very good for both boys and girls and you should read this book if you like sports and a little bit of romance mixed together!!
