Summary: not good at all, go for princeton review
Review: bad questions
wrong information
i haven't looked at the essay, but some of the information is so wrong (modern-nation of Czechloslovakia!?) and/or misleading, you'd be better off without it. For other classes (esp. Bio), CliffsAP is quite nice, especially for regular tests.

Summary: It helped me get a 4!!
Review: I bought this book about three weeks before the 2001 exam and found that by really using it in conjunction with my textbook, "The Western Heritage" and highlighting, writing in margins, and doing all the practice tests the test was remarkably easy, I wizzed through the multiple choice section, and it gave me just the perfect amount of material to answer my free response questions and DBQ. In fact the lively, easy to read material, encouraged studying and I found that because of this I retained so much more information then I would have otherwise, this is a great book!

Summary: How to get a 5
Review: I did not take an AP European History course in my school. Due to a dismal passing rate the class was dropped several years ago, well before my freshman year.

I took the exam because I love history, and I love a challenge. And I got a 5 on the exam for my efforts.

This is how I did it:
Over spring break I bought this book, and started outlining it chapter by chapter. With barely a week left I still had a little less than half to outline. I quickened my pace, and finished outline the last chapter two days before the exam. The next day I picked up the Princeton Euro Review book, and sort of skimmed through it. This was quite useful, as there were some questions I would have been incapable of answering had I not skimmed this book. The next day I walked into school, alone since we had the day off, and sat down to take the exam. I walked out thinking I had done my best, and only time would tell if I had succeeded. And I did... so who do I take on next?

Summary: Great book
Review: I had 4 Euro books. REA, Arco, Princeton, and Barron's.
All four had their strong points. I'll list those:

Arco

A great review book. Has a concise and quick review. The timelines at the end of each chapter are great to get the idea of when everything occurred. The test were real good too.

Princeton

If only getting one book, this would probably be the one. Longer reviews than Arco but shorter than REA. Bolds keywords which is really good. This book probably had the best questions matching the test.

REA

This book has a lot of information. Longest and most detailed by far. It is like a textbook. It has six tests. The tests are almost all fact based. It is a very good book. THis book and Arco are good counterparts.

Barron's

It only has one review. The reviews aren't very lengthy. Only good thing about this book is that it has questions about each section after the chapters. It helps with the class preparing for specific tests. Only advantage this book has over the others.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: I used this book to review for the AP European History exam. 2 hours before the test I looked through it and was ready. The test seemed easy for me and I skipped only 5 questions, compared to my friends who were skipping 20-30 questions. The essays were easy also. This book really helped. It doesn't have too much information like REA does. Who needs another textbook? It is great for reviewing but not for learning over. So if throughout the year you read the textbook, then this review book is perfect for you. If you didn't then buy REA. I just took the test 3 days ago and I don't know what I got on the test. But I feel like I got a 5!

Summary: Barron's AP Euro to the rescue!!!
Review: Once upon a time, in the year 1999, an overstressed 10th grade AP student in a then cruddy high school, who could care less about history since he was going to study engineering anyway, needed a way to rehash about 600 years of history in 2 weeks. This book marvelously summarizes everything that went on in class and the stuff in the text (YES people who score 1360 on SAT use the word "stuff"). The essays are good practice, and now, on the cusp of graduation from college, i'll never forget the 4 I got on test, and the $3,000 I didn't have to pay at my college to take this course. For AP US history, i wouldn't recommend Barron's. Just goes to show you it pays to be an AP nerd in high school.

Summary: A Good Study Supplement
Review: The Barron's AP European History review book covers all the material but could have gone a little more in depth. There are AP-type questions at the end of each chapter which are very helpful, accompanied by a plethora of sample essays. Essays similar to these did show up on the exam. A major fault in this prep book is the terse answers given to both the end-of-the-chapter and sample exams, with some explanations being the the effect of 'you just have to know this one'. The best bet is to go with two or three prep books. I recommend Barron's, Princeton Review and REA.

Summary: At first fairly helpful, but later on horrible!
Review: The text in the book was actually pretty much well orgainized, to the point and insightful, it seemed to be pretty much the parts of my european history text book which if i was allowed i would highlight. However this was the only pro. of the entire review. It has been the worst review book i've ever purchased, the multiple choice questions as well as the essay questions are completly unlike those on the AP test. The book's sample questions highlight exactley the wrong topics! Stick to Princeton Review's AP guides, those work much much better.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A thorough, clear explanatory book with some flaws
Review: This book provides a thorough review of the trend of European history. Perusing the terminologies, dates, and figures in this book will guarantee at least 4. Yet, this book seems more like a refreshment for the AP, not a mainstream prep book. It's test questions are way too specific compared to the AP exam and the problem sets are not that helpful. Yet, it's got a solid examplar essay models and its analysis. The essay section is the highlight of this book. Anyways, the best way to achieve a 5 on the AP exam is to do well in your normal course and use this book for final refreshment.
