Summary: Kendyl's review
Review: "Behind the Bedroom Wall" is a great book for children! It tells us of our past, such as, the Holocast. In which over six million Jewish families were killed. This book tells of family, religion, and fatherland pride. This book tought me how hard it was for people to live and breathe without being suspicous. It also taught me about freedom. It was a great book and it deserves to be read with pride and love. I recommend this book to everyone.

Summary: Interesting take on Germany, during the war.
Review: "Behind the Bedroom Wall" was a good book - no doubt about that. There are few historical fictions for younger readers dealing with the German children of the war. One word that comes to mind to describe this book is "redundant." We know that Korrina thinks Jew's are vile, etc., and there is no need to express that on each page; William's should have explained in greater depth *why* she felt this way, other than that she was brainwashed (there's a reason for everything). Another thing missing was why Korrina changed her mind about Jewish people. A decent book, nonetheless - I recommend.

Summary: Behind the Bedroom Wall--a holocaust story
Review: As a teacher in Illinois, I am required to teach about the Holocaust. It is not easy to locate material suitable for fourth graders, but this book fits the bill. The students enjoy the story, and the content is rich in details of how the Third Reich affected the lives of Jews and non-Jews. I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to give students a basic grounding in the Holocaust.

Summary: Looking Behind the Bedroom Wall
Review: Behind the Bedroom Wall AUTHOR: Williams, Laura E. PUB/DATE: Scholastic Inc., 1996

SUMMARY: Korinna, an eleven year old girl, who is also a loyal member of the Hitler Youth in Nazi Germany, along with her two best friends, Eva and Rita. She is appalled to discover that her parents are hiding a Jewish family right there behind her own bedroom wall. Aren't Jews a disgrace to the Fatherland? What if the authorities find out? Should she report her parents as traitors, as she has been taught to do?

CHARACTERS: Korinna- loyal to Hitler, desensitized to hate and descrimination, conscious of right and wrong, seems confused in the beginning, but realizes the truth in the end.

Rita- brainwashed by Hitler and her brother who is a member of the Gestapo, seems to have lost respect for other humans, insensitive towards acts of hate and prejudisms.

Eva- is reluctant to succumb to the ways and ideas of Hitler, sensitve and respectful toward all humans, isn't afraid to show and express her concern for the Jews.

Frau Rheme (Korinna's mother)- unselfish, willing to help the Jews, a good role model for Mary Elizabeth, supports what is right.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR THE TEACHERS: This book would be an excellent resource as a supplemental aid for a history lesson. Junior high students could certainly relate to the feelings and attitude of Korinna. They will gain a greater appreciation for what the Jews experienced during the Holocaust. Teachers can also discuss hate and prejudisms while reading the story.

ON A SPECIAL NOTE: I enjoyed this book for its realistic portrayal of the Jews during the Holocaust. I felt that Korinna's attitude and feelings were accurate as to how anyone would handle feeling betrayed by their parents. However in the end she becomes supportive of what is right and true.

Summary: Behind the Bedroom Wall Review by: Little Dipper
Review: Behind the Bedroom Wall is set in 1942, during World War II. Korinna Rehme is German and believes that everything (...) does it correct. Korinna's new kitten turns up missing. It eventually shows up in her room. The kitten came from behind her dresser. This makes Korinna curious about what is behind the dresser. After struggling to move it, she finds that there is a secret passageway behind her dresser. This is how Korinna discovers that her parents are hiding Jews behind her bedroom wall. She has to face society and decide whether or not she should turn in her family for the sake of her country, or not. Korinna is very upset about it at first, but then learns that this could be the right risk to take.

Summary: a different view...but not the best writing
Review: I was excited to find this book, as I had never read a book about a "normal" german girl during the Holocaust. Korinna is this girl, and she is a devout follower of Hilter...until she finds out her parents are hiding Jews behind her bedroom wall. The fact that Korinna has quite a dilemma on her hands- turn in her own parents? stay silent and therefore a traitor? is interesting, but the writing was bland. I read the entire book in one night, so if you are curious, go for it, but I've read much better books about people on the other side, like the Jews.

Summary: A sad, happy, and wonderful book for all ages.

She believes that Hitlar is helping Germany by dealing with what he calls the Jewish problem. Korinna however has a rude awakening when she discovers that her own parents are hiding Jews behind the wall of her bedroom. At first she believes that her parents are traitors butas she comes to know the Jewish famil her sympathies begin to turn. When someone tips off the Gestapo(german police), loyalties are put to the test and Korinna must decide what she really believes and whom she really trusts.

This is the description on the back of the book Behind the Bedroom Wall. Here is the begining part to the story that might give you an idea of what it is about:

"Jew-Lover!" spat the tall blond Gestapo officer, pushing harr haase toward the car. Harr Haase wearing no jacket or shoes againts the february cold slipped and fell on a patch of ice. Frau Hasse stood in front of her house, her 2 children clutched her skirt watching their father with wide tear filled eyes.

"Get up Jew Lover!" Said a second officer. "Get up or I'll shoot you now!" Harr Haase slowly rose to his knees, one arm clamped against his side where he had been kicked. "Faster!" Said another oficer. He pushed the poor man down to make it more painful. Korinna and her two friends Eve and Rita were watching not far.

"Isnt Hans handsome?" said Rita commenting on her brother. "I think it is just awful" eve said quietly."what did he do wrong?"

" They are calling him a Jew Lover" Said Korinna.

"Who'd want to hide a stinking Jew?" Besides he'd be dead already if he had been hiding one." Rita said.

"I dont see the problem with Jews" said Eve.

"Remember eve, jews are the enemy! They are the root of all our problems. Without them germany will be strong!" Said Rita narrowing her eyes slightly.

Summary: Different than most Holocaust stories...
Review: This book is very different from most Holocaust stories I have read. It is told from a different point of view. In this story it is told through a girl named Korinna who is part of a Nazi youth group and has learned to hate Jews. Instead of being told from the Jew's point of view, it is told from a German point of view. Korinna discovers her own parents are hiding Jews behind her bedroom wall. She is very upset and does not know what to do. Should she turn them in as she has been taught to do? Find out what she does in this well-written novel.
