Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I got this book on Saturday afternoon and finished it Saturday night. It was FANTASTIC! If you love other teen books, then you'll love this. And now I really wanna know who in the heck are "Kelly Kimball" and "Darcy Barnes"!
Rating: Summary: OK book, nothing special Review: I got this book yesterday and finished it this morning. It was extremely fast and easy to read. I think Shaw wanted to keep it in the form he got it in, without grammar or punctuation. This is REALLY annoying though, and really doesn't help the integrity of this "real" story, which tries to come off with a moral message but doesn't succeed. Also, I kept trying to figure out if this was a real story or not, or just fake, because it mentione Christina Aguleria, Britney Spears, Madonna, and Jessica Simpson. This book was okay, and since it went fast, I can't say it wasn't worth my time. There are really great teen books out there, but this isn't an exceptional one.
Rating: Summary: YOU HAVE TO READ THIS NOW!! Review: I loved this book... it's definitely the funniest thing I've read all this year. In fact it's more like a movie than a book. It goes SOOO FAST!!!I definitely think it's probably at least PARTLY true because the way the character talks is just so honest and real. And plus, some of the gossip in it is stuff that I had heard about also! You have to get this book. I definitely think it's about Britney Spears or one of those girls........ You DEFINITELY have to read it
Rating: Summary: YOU HAVE TO READ THIS NOW!! Review: I really enjoyed this book, which was a great easy read, written in true form of a 17-year-old girl, where the use of proper grammar and capitalization is optional. It left me wondering, though, how much of it was true... and wanting to know more about the real Kelly Kimball, (or at least the girl who inspired her)!!! I'd love to know more about the story behind the book! Oh well, fun summer read. Fast paced, in diary, IM and email form, funny, good story.
Rating: Summary: Confessions of a Backup Dancer Review: In this book, Confessions of a Backup Dancer, it all seemed real. One of the reasons I really liked this book was that it was written in diary form, and we could read it from a teenage girl's perspective and how she deals with her life. I personally enjoy reading diary form novels because you can place yourself in the main character's shoes really well. I really like the detail Kelly Kimball uses in each of her entries and how she describes the other back up dancers, her Mom, her step dad, her stepsisters, and her brother Evan, and her best friend Tito.
Kelly shows her good and bad sides, especially when she is in a bad mood and she also gives every little detail about what people say and how they act. I really want to know who Darcy Barnes and Pashmina really are. One part of the book I really do enjoy is how Tucker Shaw does the email and instant message form, and how the punctuation and grammar mistakes are made online while "chatting" with buddies.
I chose this book for the American Dream theme because it shows the real effort of a dancer and how she wants to make a living, and wants to help her mother to make more money so they can afford her older brother going to college. Another reason I chose this book for the American Dream is that this is a diary form novel and just living each and every day of your life should be part of your American Dream, and I believe it was Kelly's dream, too. I recommend this book to anyone, especially anyone who likes to read first-person novels, and who is wishing to persue their career as a performer. This novel shows great detail of how a backup dancer life could be like, and gives you a background on an anonymous dancer and not knowing how much of the information is true, you still get a good feel on what this dancer had to deal with.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: Oh my gosh! I loved this book so much! It was a great story and I, being a dancer and singer, was immediatley drawned to such a strong lead character. Kelly (or KK) was an amazing person and I loved how Tucker Shaw dove into her character and gave her such realism. I'm only fifteen but I love to read, to much my friends and family say, and I just got into these type of teen novels this summer but this was the first one (out of ten) I read and it was my favorite. KK and Tito are characters you feel like you know and I hope that there's a second book because when I was done I felt like I was saying goodbye to my close friends. I was also impressed that a man (Mr. Shaw) was so accurate to how a girl in Darcy's place would act. Oh yeah, to the person who said they couldn't tell if it was real or not, if you just looked at the inside cover you would've seen it say FICTION! And lastly, I loved the way it was written, the diary form was awesome.
Rating: Summary: Totally Hillarious Review: This book was so funny and so full of juicy tidbits about pop stars. The money they spend, the crazy stuff they ask for in their contracts, how spoiled they can be. But also how nice. I think my favorite part of the book is the way it's written. Kind of exactly the way people talk. I read it in one night, and I think I might even read it again. I wish there was a sequel.
Rating: Summary: A good short read Review: This is not a book I would typically pick to read, but I won it in a contest and decided that it is probably worth the read. I was absolutely right. The format was very interesting, consisting of computer diary entries. It's a good story, real enough to be believable and good enough to grab and hold my attention. What will happen next? You'll know when you pick up this book and read it.
