She has some doubts, but has her best friend, Zoe to encourage her. They also get help from their English Teacher to get through the obstacles and they are the only ones who know that the writer of the book is a kid. They go through obstacles including pen names, keeping it all a secret, getting a beeper, and most of all keeping it secret from her mom because the editor is her mom! Natalie WANTS her mom to be the editor so she can show her mom she's a great writer. But Mrs. Nelson's boss thinks that "Cassandra Day (Natalie's pen name)" is such a great author, she demands Mrs. Nelson to move aside so SHE can edit the book. So Cassandra Day sent a threatening letter to her mom's boss saying that if Mrs. Nelson isn't the editor of her book, she would go to another publisher. So now all they have to wait for is to get the book published. After the book was finally finished, the whole floor and staff threw a party for Cassandra Day and at the party Natalie came to the party and she finally told everybody that she was the author, and she was Cassandra Day. She finally reached her goal- getting her book published. She followed through to her dream and kept on going.
Rating: Summary: The School Story a review by Zac Review: Have you every wanted to publish a book? In the book The School Story by Andrew Clements Natalie and Zoe will do anything to publish their book. Would you do anything to get your book published? Natalie and Zoe are two best friends in 6th grade. They want Natalie's mom Ella to be the publisher without Ella knowing. Their teacher Mrs. Clayton said that she would help them. Ella was at work and received the book. She read the whole book. Her boss Lethal wants to be the publisher of the book. Ella did not want Lethal to publish the book, she wanted to. Natalie sent another copy of the book to another person in Ella's building. He read the book and wanted Ella to publish the book, too. He sent E-mail to Lethal and sent a blind copy to Ella saying that Ella should publish the book. Lethal gave Ella the manuscript and said to Ella " you should handle this one after all we don't want our little Mrs. Author to get her tummy all tied up in knots." Ella was very happy and said to Lethal " Well...but...I'll be glad to." Natalie and Zoe asked Zoe's dad Mr. Remson if they could sign a contract with false names to get the book published. He said that he was pretty sure they could, but Natalie had to get her uncle Fred say that she could sign it to make it legal. Uncle Fred said "If you think that your daughter can sign it, I think Natalie can to.'' During school one day Mrs. Clayton handed a note to the girls, and it said to meet her after school. After school Mrs. Clayton gave Natalie a big brown envelope, and she opened it up. Inside the envelope was a five-page letter from the editor. Also there was a copy of the book with dozens of post-it notes. . The post-it notes were errors. Then she read the letter. There is more to read on your own. The book The School Story is a really exciting story.

Rating: Summary: The B-E-S-T, best , book EVER!... Review: I gave this book five stars because it encourages kids to not only read books, but to write them as well. I liked it so much that after I read it in the library I decided to buy it. I also think this book is great because it is creative, interesting, and the author is very good with words. It is one of my favorite books. This book is about a girl that writes a novel and her friend tries to make it into a real published book. The problem is that the girl's mom is the owner of the publishing company. They both get more people involved to help her publish it.
Rating: Summary: Clements does it again Review: I had fun with "Frindle," but this book is now my favorite by Andrew Clements. "School Story" is both fun, uplifting, and educational. The story is a happy one--albeit an unusual and a little farfetched. We learn about the process of getting a book published and promoted. We learn about the private motivations for reading and publishing a book. We get to have fun becoming friends with two wonderful characters, Zoe and Natalie. Some would argue that they accomplish the impossible. But every new book published by a new author is a miracle, so why not have fun and believe in this story?Natalie writes a book, "The Cheater," which you will want to read yourself before the book is over. Unfortunately, you won't get to unless Clements provides that story for us someday. Zoe, an unusually spunky preteen, is determined to get the book published. She thinks the book is great and she wants to help her friend heal from the death of Natalie's father. These are intelligent preteens who still act like preteens. Nothing is impossible, if you try hard enough and have the talent. Read and have fun. If you have ever wondered how books get published or want to be published yourself someday, this book gives a great overview of the process, too. Or if you just want to read the adventures of two outstanding girls, jump right in.

Rating: Summary: Clements Does It Again! Review: I thought that it would be impossible for Andrew Clements to top the emotion of "The Landry News" but he has done so in the wonderful "The School Story." This is a real page turner that builds to a perfect conclusion. My 12 year old kept saying "it's so exciting!" and he was right.
