Rating: Summary: How Weird is the Weirdo Review: A girl named Samantha Sanders was nine years old the day she found a local resident dead in a swamp near her house. Seven years later she was chasing her uncle's runaway dog miles into the swamp. She was out there in the swamp so long she had to stay the night in a stump for the night. In the middle of the night she thought she saw another dead body wrapped in a big cloth or blanket being carried by someone. It wasn't very clear because she was really tired and half-asleep. She was there until the next morning when she went to a neighbor's house in mid-morning. She met a young man named Chip who works with a friend at a bear refuge. This job is where they try to save bears, do studies, and tag and number the bears. Samantha and Chip become friends and become a couple. They try to find the swamp killer by using evidence, clues, and the cops to try and solve two murder mysteries.I liked this book because it grabbed me and made me read more and more. It kept me interested most of the way through. The downside of this book was that it was boring in some parts. Some parts were hard to understand and slow. This book was creepy and I like those kinds of books. I got so creeped out that I had to stop reading. I recommend this book to young adults because it's pretty easy to understand and it wasn't that big of a book. If you like mysteries this is the book for you! It's also kind of creepy so it's good for people who like creepy books.
Rating: Summary: great story with lots of action and details Review: great story with lots of action and details
Rating: Summary: Very suspenseful didn't know what was going to happen next Review: I couldn't put the book down! It had to do with love standing up in what you believe, a little science, and some thrill all mixed in equal amounts.
Rating: Summary: The Weirdo is an excellent novel for the science classroom. Review: I have used The Weirdo with my eighth grade science students. I found it easy to incorporate environmental issues, ecology, math, language arts and local history/geography lessons using the book. In addition to the academic realm, the book teaches acceptable ways to deal with conflict, as well as how important it is to look past the physical or outward appearances of both people and the environment. It stresses the necessity of being open to educating ourselves on issues before forming opinions. I found the example of honesty in the story (Tom Telford's refusal to alter data to get a particular result) refreshing in light of some situations in our world today. With the trend in education moving more toward interdisciplinary units, I strongly recommend The Weirdo as a resource for the eighth grade classroom teacher.
Rating: Summary: I give this book 5 stars Review: I like this book because it has great suspense and the characters seem like real people. I would recommend this book because it teaches you about how it's not what you look like on the outside, but who you are on the inside that counts. If you like a thrilling murder-mystery than you will love this book!
Rating: Summary: good mystery - could't put it down Review: I liked this book very much. I had to read it for 8th grade summer reading and would recommend it to others. It had a good story line and touched on a lot of intersting topics.
Rating: Summary: You'll regret it!! Review: I personally would not recommend this book to anyone unless you like humongous challenges. I got very confused while reading this book for multiple reasons. One being that the author jumps around so for example he's setting up the plot of the story and then jumps to seven years later. This next comment is in a way connected to what I just said but, right when something gets interesting he changes the subject. Another reason is because you have to read 150 pages into the book before things start to make sense. The last reason is that the author leaves a lot of unknown questions at the end.
Rating: Summary: The Weirdo Review: I read this book because I'm a Battle of the Books coach at my school. My daughter had called it boring and slow, I read the other reviews that were not complimentary. Needless to say, I wasn't looking forward to it. Having just finished it, I thought it was an unusual, worthwhile book. It touched on several topics most youth would find interesting, like self image, and finding one's own voice and courage to stand up for what one believes in. Maybe you have to be an adult to appreciate it. The only criticism I might have is the conflict was wrapped up quickly on the last couple pages. But maybe I'm used to reading adult books that go on forever with explanations.
Rating: Summary: The Wierdo Review: I think the book The wierdo was a bad book and I do not recomend it to anyone. The book was to boring. Things do not happen fast enough. The words were hard to understand. The plot wasen't really clear. I do not recomend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: The Weirdo Review: I think this book was quite alright. It was not written in chronological order and could be difficult for some readers. The book had many conflicts and problems that seemed to all fight together somehow. It shows many different genres like mystery, romance and adventure while still having a realistic format. This book would be good for a young reader who is looking for something different than your average mystery novel. You can really get to know the characters even though relating to them can be hard. It was a little left-winged, as it dealed with environmental issues. Your idea on those kinds of things may make you feel different about the story than others.
