Summary: A textbook, not a novel!!!!!
Review: I had to read this book for my freshman world geography class. I would have rather read the section about Africa in my textbook (at least it's shorter!) The writing style is to boring to get into. It made Dickens seem fast paced!!! If your looking for a good novel about African people by an African writer, it's not here. Try Toni Morrison.

Summary: I throuroughly enjoyed writing this book
Review: Writing this book opened up a whole new world for me. I never realized what kind of reaction this book would get. I was greatly surprised because I thought this book was horrible.

Summary: Not what it's cracked up to be
Review: The book is a bit boring and slow, too. By the time you see any trace of a continuous story line you will realize you're already more than half-way through the book. Prior that the text tells of several events which have no apparent relevance to the plot (an African tribesman returning from exile to find his clan being colonized by white men). The language is clever and the message is obvious, yet the story is not well constructed.

Summary: Very Interesting!
Review: I am a sophomore in college and was assigned this book to do a short review. At first, like many books I've read in the past, it started out very dull. After getting through the first four chapters, the book started to become more interesting. This is a story about real life, although in another culture. It touched me in so many ways. I would suggest this book to any scholar!

Summary: The greatness of this book is that is pertains to everyond
Review: The story which Mr. Achebe tells lend into the life of one african man. It tells the story of a prosperous village, and it's discinigration when the whites come. Mr. Achebe is a masterful story teller for he at once explains and makes clear yet lets other aspects stay unsaid letting the reader come to thier own realization and meaning.

Review: Kind of boring, but a lot of people I know who also read this book for class kind of liked it becaue it was unique. This book is also good if you are in the mood for a tradjedy (sp?)

Summary: A tragic depiction of the effects of African imperialism.
Review: I am a sophomore in High School who had to read this book for History. At first I thought that it was just a story about an African tribe. In fact, I went from hating to absolutely loving the book on about page 110 out 209 pages. The tribal stories are actually symbolic and help to depict Okonkwo as a tragic hero, which shows his tension with the missionaries. If you are patient, you will find the book amazing and be absolutely moved emotionally. If you hate reading History books, this will teach you the 411 about the evils and goods of imperialism. This is the first book that I have said "Wow" to since ISHMAEL.

Summary: An incredible book
Review: I was assigned this book for my African History class, and assumed it would be boring, as all of the other books I've read for that class have been! I was pleasantly surprised -- this is one of the best books I have ever read. The story is so emotionally charged and raises such moral and humane issues. The story itself is wonderful, and yet I felt that the historical background given is great, too. I highly recommend this book.
