Rating: Summary: White Fang: A Timeless Clasic Review: I really liked this book. It talks about the wonderful times White Fang goes through, but it also talks about his hardships. I still remember reading this book every time I see a dog or a wolf in the wild. The book is great because White Fang never gives up. The book displays his perceverence and loyalty. He is always loyal to his masters, no matter how mean or cruel they are to him. One master was really mean and turned him into a fighting dog. He was fearless and almost never lost a fight. White Fang turned into a cold and unloveable dog. Could he ever change? Read this wonderful book and find out.
Rating: Summary: "Whole Story" Makes a Good Book Better Review: White Fang is a cross between a wolf & a dog, and the story begins near the beginning of his life, when he is still living in a cave and has yet to experience the out of doors. His father, the wolf, dies when WF is still cave-bound. Much description is written about WF's feelings for his mother (intense devotion) and the world around him as he begins to explore it. Along the way, by trial and error, he becomes a wily hunter & survivor. He and his mother Kiche are eventually taken in by a group of Indians and Gray Beaver becomes his master/god. He trains WF to be one of his sled dogs and a hunter. The way he trains him is with ferocious beatings any time WF disobeys or slacks off or does anything wrong. WF sees him as a god. Not one that he loves, but one he must obey to avoid beatings and to receive food. Gray Beaver eventually sells him to another god, Beauty Smith, who is truly evil. Beauty is training WF to be a fighter dog, and his beatings are even more ferocious. WF is pitted against other dogs on a daily basis, while his master takes bets. WF never looses. Then one day, WF is pitted against a bull dog. The fight is like none he had ever experienced before, and it is one that almost cost him his life. It is through the fight with the bull dog that WF comes to know his newest and last master/god, Weedon Scott. And it is through Weedon that WF learns how to love his god. And in the end, love is rewarded on both sides. It is a book that would be most appealing to the intermediate reader and young adult, especially adventuring types, and animal lovers. The edition I read was from the Whole Story Series and their additions to each of the books they publish are very noteworthy. Besides the complete text of the original book they also include many photos, illustrations, and enlightening notes about the history, culture, etc. of the place & era. Even if a person is not crazy about the story (& WF in not my "type" of story,) the information in the margin alone is worth the reading.
Rating: Summary: A great read , especially for younger readers Review: I will forever remember fondly Jack London's "White Fank" as being the first work of fiction that I had the privelage of reading as a young child. This is a great book to purchase for any young person just begining to read. Jack London's use of imagery tells a tale of the early 1900's gold rush territory, that no history book could explain. This book is an excellent example of the human struggle told from the point of view of a dog. All in all it is a great book for the whole family.
Rating: Summary: White Fang - Jack London at his best! Review: White Fang is a "don't miss" for any fan of Jack London!!
Rating: Summary: White Fang book review by Mikey Review: White Fang by Jack London was initially published in 1905. It takes place in many places during the earlier days of civilized America when Native Americans were still a tribal culture. At the beginning of the book, the story is set in North-West Canada, then in an Indian camp. Later on, the main character goes to San Francisco. The main character in this book is White Fang. He is half dog and half wolf, but he looks a regular gray wolves. He grew up having to be very ferocious and merciless in order to survive; those qualities stuck with him most of his life. He is very fast and has a reputation for never getting “knocked off his feet”. He is a very tough fighter, which he needs to be because most other dogs and wolves do not like him. I highly recommend this book. It is a very interesting book, with a good, happy ending. This book should be kept on the summer reading list because it is enjoyable to read with lots of surprising plot twists. I would recommend this book mostly to people who like animals.
Rating: Summary: A tragic tale Review: DO NOT READ THIS STORY! I have never SO disagreed with an author. Basically, this tale boils down to a creature of the Wild learning that man is a "god" and that white men are gods compared to Native Americans. In order for this Wild creature to survive he must learn to obey the rules made by these gods. London apparently sees modern man, having no respect for nature or animals, as being the epitome of evolution. The domestication of White Fang by the "love master" is perhaps the greatest tragedy I've ever read about. Frighteningly, London presents it as a TRIUMPH.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Have Ever Read Review: White Fang is the best book I have ever read, and I have been reading since I was 4. I'm 10. I read about a chapter book a week. This story, so unpredictable, so stable and consistent. So descriptive, so mature, with an excellent vocabulary, so you might want to have a dictionary next to you. An excellent array of words, an excellent outline, and a superior text. The story is very good, and has an intelligent communicatory language, though complete with swear words. A sort of peculiar idea it gets much better until its superiority to other books is outstanding. A perfect must-read.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant. Not much else I can say... Review: This is the first review of a book I've made (before I stuck to CD and games) but I felt that I had to write about the brilliance of this book. Jack London has served up a book that is touching yet angry, happy yet sad. You will learn to understand White Fang, to love the Scott Weedon and to hate Beauty Smith (if I described him this review wouldn't get posted). If you like dogs (like I do) it is also a very interesting look at how wolves (who are closely related to dogs) work on instinct and how they feel and think. Everything about this book is totally believeable and it may even overtake Jurassic park as one of the greatest most well-written books I have ever read. This book plants images in your mind and continues to let them grow and grow in a way that no other book has done to me before. You WILL love this book. It will touch you, make you think, make you cry, make you angry, make you yearn for more and most of all, it will keep you turning the pages as if your life depended on it.
Rating: Summary: Chow main phat Review: I think this book by jack London 'White Fang' is very good. And everyone I know likes it.
