We had a hard time stopping every night. As a former animal communicator, I'm so glad to see someone take on this subject in such an entertaining and thoughtful way. I was thrilled with the premise and the message. As a reader, I was enthralled with the story. As the father of daughters, I was happy to read a book about a brave and believable girl from simple, rough origins who was able to shine gloriously. I recommended this to a friend with a daughter who disabled. She is missing part of a leg. She's a girl in love with animals, particularly horses. This was a very healing story for her to read about Oyuna's minor handicap and why that and the fact that she is a young woman should not hold anyone back from believing that you can do anything.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I wish I could go on an adventure like that w/ my horse!! Review: I couldn't even start to explain how much I love this book! Oyuna was just a baby when "the horse chose her". Oyuna means the horse chose her to have a crushed foot all her life. To be free on the back of a horse, & to be crippled on the ground. Oyuna goes to the fair when she is 12 or 13 to find her swift horse to win the race to get/win/make luck for her family. But instead, she chooses an old, lame mare. She does because the mare talked to her. ("Help me out of here!") Slowly but surely, her mare gets better & Oyuna names her Bayan, meaning "beauty & goodness". Every one thinks it is strange that she named her horse. Naming an animal was extremely strange. The Kahn's soldiers come into Oyuna's village 1 day & take Bayan. They start taking men & boys from the village, too, as new soldiers for the Kahn. The commander comes into Oyuna's family's tent & chooses her slightly older step brother to be a soldier. Since Oyuna's grandmother told her to never loose her mare, Oyuna takes her step- brothers uniform & goes out & saddles Bayan, pretending to be a boy. Now, I won't tell u anything else, you'll just have to read it, but this was a great, great book. It doesn't deserve 5 stars, it deserves 5 million! This book is a great example of the loyalty of animals & all they sacrifice for us. This is one of my favorite books. Oyuna has such an amazing adventure, I wish I could do that w/ my horse & my cat! (Bator is her funny, loyal cat) Read this book! You'll love it, I promise you!

The good thing about this book was the race at the end. I read this book for a class assignment and I really didn't like it. I don't really recommend it for anyone except horse lovers.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Slow, Boring etc. Review: I gave this book 2 stars because I thought that it taught a lot about the Mongol empire, culture, and everyday life. The bad side was the writing style. It was slow and overly descriptive. I also did not like the slow beginning and hard-to-get-into plot. The author does not let the reader do any imagining, and so the reader loses attention easily. Overall, I didn't think that this book moved along very well.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: I Rode A Horse of Milk White Jade Review: I give this book 2 stars. I would only recommend this book to animal lovers and people who only like pretty boring books. This book was slow in a lot of places, especially the beginning. The book was only good in a few places. This book is slow throughout and gets to a happy and sad ending. To me, an ending is either happy or sad, not both. This is not that good a book and there are a lot of unnecessary parts in it. There is only one cool part in the book, she lives with someone of great importance. Definatly not the best book in the world. This book was educational, but still only 2 stars.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: An ok Horse Of Milk White Jade Review: I give this book 3 stars. It was an ok book. It was a little slow in some parts because she described everything so thoroughly. It is not as exciting as Harry Potter, but it was exciting in some parts. She had many little adventures that were all tangled in one, which made your heart sometimes skip a beat. I would recommend this book to horse lovers.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A book of reality Review: I give this book five stars. I think it was a very good book because it was adventurous, exciting, mysterious, and romantic. It covers all the popular things in a story. It shows a true book with a beginning, middle and an end. The main character (Oyuna) shows how she works her way up until she finds her dream, it also shows that life always doesn't run smoothly. If want to find out what Oyuna's dream is or anything else, read I RODE A HORSE OF MILK WHITE JADE.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: I Rode a Horse of Milk White Jade Review: I give this book three stars. It was good in the end of the book but I think that the rest of the book was a boring. It was nice to finally have a book based on a girl because most books that are based in Mongolia and China are based on boys and men. I liked how she fufills most of her dreams but I think that the author could have made some parts more exciting than it was. I recommend this book to people who like adventures with lots of horses.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This story has it all Review: I got it for my 13-year-old, and read it before she did, bad move, but couldn't put it down. Humane, moving, never sappy, great girl character, mystery, romance, adventure, coming-of-age, but above all superlatively well-written. Splendid economy of writing. We used the similes for an English project, beautifully done. Even beats Harry Potter. We want more by this author!
