Summary: Brown Needs A New Blueprint
Review: Sandra Brown's STANDOFF follows the same blueprint that nearly all of her novels utilize--a scrappy heroine who gets embroiled in some criminal activity and in doing so subsequently meets her future paramour, someone who always has a tortured past that they literally can't get past. Heroine in question here is television news reporter Teal McCoy who, on a vacation trip, takes a detour in order to follow a story and ends up getting caught in the middle of a standoff at a convenience store. Among those held hostage with her is a man called Doc, a doctor whose wife died under "questionable" circumstances. You already know how this is going to end from the get go, which makes the read even less fun. At some point, Brown needs to devise a new twist in her writing, because now she just seems to be using the same basic backstory for the main characters and substituting new names.

Summary: Talk About The Story of A Lifetime!
Review: "Stand Off" by Sandra Brown was a real fast-paced read for me. I enjoyed the story very much!The Action is fast, the characters entertaining and easy to connect with, and the plot moves right along. Stand Off is a story about a T.V. news reporter that gets a story of a lifetime while on vacation after she along with a handful of other people in a local store become hostages! Sandra Brown delivers one of her finer efforts in this 'Must Read' page turner!

Summary: It Wasn't That Bad!
Review: Whew, you guys are cold-blooded in your reviews of this book! Sure, it's not her best work and it was hastily written, but I found it entertaining. Predictable up to a point...I was certainly surprised at the *twist* thrown in regarding the Mexicans. (I do not agree, by the way, with a previous reviewer who found her writing racist. If you have read other Sandra Brown novels you know that she is an "equal opportunity" character writer. Very diverse and very fair in her descriptions.) Yes, the love story between Tiel and Doc was predicitable. Again, if you know Sandra Brown you know that she is renowned for her steamy, explicit sex scenes! The men are always, tall, dark and handsome as well as well endowed and equipped with sexual prowess. So, that's to be expected. Don't give up on Sandra Brown. Read "The Witness" for a riveting read. "Up in Smoke" ain't bad either.

Summary: Unexpected but Great!!
Review: I am definitely a Sandra Brown fan!! Each of her stories is great, but this was truly a surprise. Other than The Witness, I don't think I've read one of her books that has more suspense in it as well as having the book keep me trying to figure out where two characters fit into the plot, yet knowing they were "bad guys". The tension was good, the characters strong, and I really wanted to strangle Mr. Denby. The only draw back for me was the "obligatory" romance scene. I don't think it added to the storyline. Nevertheless, it was a great book!!

Summary: Maybe S.B. next book will be better
Review: Sandra Brown, this isn't one of your best. The story line got old real fast. The love you bestored on these teenagers was a everlasting love, they were willing to fight for that love. They held strangers at gun point for that love. Then in the finally page it was, WHAT!!! Sabra and the baby go home to stay with her mother, (who by the way was only mention twice in the whole story) and Ronnie is in the hospital and will live with his father for awhile. They postpone their love to see if "can stand the test of time for couple of years apart"!!!!! How and when did Tiel and the Doc fall in love. I must have missed the steamy sex in between the flying bullets part. Those two were so wrong for each other. I surprise they even spoke to each others. This book is a waste of time and money

Summary: Worst book I have ever read
Review: I could comment on the racism, lack of creativity and lack of substance found in this novel. In conclusion, do not waste your mind and time reading this piece of fluff called a novel. Unless you are entertained by reckless, shallow, and unbelievable characters, I assume any person with a high school education at the least would find this book a real snoozer.

Summary: Pacy and entertaining
Review: (...) It's a pacy little tale about a pair of runaway teenage lovers,holding up a store and holding a group of people at gunpoint. A zillion years ago,this would have been made into a "B" grade movie by someone like Republic pictures as a good little filler-in.I agree that the last few pages seemed like the obligatory sex scene but some readers like this bit and--hey--to each his own!! I found it to be entertaining,fast,quite exciting and a good little "filler-in"story.

Summary: This book would have been Okay, but...
Review: I would have given this book at least a 2 except for the ending. The book had been reasonable, not the best thriller by far(actually more like a romance), but it was OK. It was really short actually, only a couple hundred pages, which could have been condensed to about 50. The characters where shallow at best, I couldn't even latch to one who I thought was even slightly deep. Teal was a typical annoying reporter/main character. I couldn't relate in any way to her. And the handsom mysterious cowboy character was cliche and laughable. Like I said, it would have been okay. I have a high tolerence for the cliched, at least it occupied my time. But then came the ending, a drawn out sex scene that lasted for a chapter and a half. It held no relavence in the story at all! I could have tollerated a brief mentioning, but NO! Sandra Brown was detailed, to the point I said, "What the heck is this?!?!". I wouldn't reccomend this book to anyone! The book it-self isn't too good, just worth reading if you have nothing else. But the chapters at the end plumeted this book from its lofty perch of 2 stars to 1! This was my first Sandra Brown book and hopefully my last!

Review: The trite plot, poor writing, and tired cliches make this book one of the *worst* books I have ever read. Lines such as, "At whom are you pissed?" are laughable at best. Every character speaks in the same manner, bland and false. Ugh!

Summary: Even if you haven't read it, you've read it before
Review: Standoff is such a thin, formulaic ripoff that I can write out a recipe: 1 semi-glamorous, shallow heroine 1 tall, dark and handsome hero with a Tragic Past 1 froth-at-the-mouth villian, complete with rifle 1 pair foxy grandma and grandpa 1 large gratuitous sex scene 2 surly foreigners 2 confused teenagers Pour into convenience store, sprinkle with cops and TV cameras. Shake, and serve. The resulting froth tastes like its cardboard characters, and will remind you of every TV suspense-movie-of-the-week ever made. There is absolutely nothing original, interesting, or memorable here: a complete waste of time.
