Rating: Summary: Fabulously unrealistic... Review: but that's something you don't notice. I didn't know Liz Berry wrote anything else, Mel is absolutely my favorite book. I have 3 copies, one hardcover, because an old bookstore that had it closed, and lucky lucky me i got a chance to buy them out. The first copy, which i got as a gift, sat in the back of my closet for over 2 years before i read it because it looked boring. Don't fall victem to that trap! I liked it especially because Mitch reminded me of my best friend/on-and-off boyfriend, and Mel's mum reminded me of my own.
Rating: Summary: Just "okay"!!!! Review: I had very high hopes for this book after reading "The China Garden", but "Mel" was only okay. Yeah, it was quick, easy read, but it lacked depth & was a bit cheesy at times. It just didn't have that "stay up all night reading it" quality, which is what I look for. I am just disappointed with it & I wouldn't really recommend it, read "The China Garden" instead.
Rating: Summary: Always a book to read over and over! Review: I have always enjoyed reading "Mel" by Liz Berry and luckily I own a copy. Though this is my second favorite book by her ("Easy Connections" is the first) I find that if it is read once, it must certainly be read a few more times. I only wish Liz Berry will republish "Easy Freedom" (that is the only one I do not own) and write a few more books!

Rating: Summary: This book is an unrealistic comming of age story. Review: Mel, the main character, is faced with many difficulties in this book. In the beginning, she contemplates suicide. Her mother is sent to the mental home because she recently had her second breakdown. She lives alone and finds refuge in school. She decides to do an art project on interior design and uses her house as the subject. Her house is a total mess: Stains on everything, ratty furnature, etc. Mel's mom used to "pack" boxes because they would be moving soon. The boxes were filled with tiny pieces of newspaper. The first thing Mel does is throw away all the boxes and junk that is ugly and unrepairable. Then she strips the walls and floors and starts to make them look presentable. She then decides that it is time to buy some new furnature for the house. She looks in a "junk shop" and finds not only some nice furnature, but an attractive young man. She brouses there a lot and after a while Lou, the owner of the store and the grandfather of the young man,Mitch, tries to hook up Mel and Mitch.Mitch then goes over to her house and and helps her sand the floors and paint the walls. He also helps her fix up the dresser and buys her a new dining room set. He helps her and he then kisses her. It was her first kiss and she was flushed and tried to make it seem nonchalent but did a bad job of hiding her suprise. A few days later he has to leave, but she doesn't know why, but she then finds out that he is in a famous band and that they were touring. When he comes bach she tries to distance herself because she does not want to become a tally mark. Lou breaks his leg and is forced to go to the hospital so Mel then runs the junk shop. Mitch then asks Mel if she will accompany him to a party. She agrees, but only under the conditions that he will give her a desk from the junk shop. At the party she finds that he has been telling people that they were engaged. Then after the party Mel and Mitch go out drinking and dancing. Then they find themselves at his apartment. The start kissing and one thing leads to another and they end up having sex. The next day he wants them to spend the day together but she has to go to school. So she goes and talks to the guidance councelor and she tells her to go and get a pregnancy test. The next day at school there are a lot of rumors about Mel's engagement to Mitch. She dismisses them saying that she is not interested in him. That day after school she comes home and an older couple arrrives and the say that the came to meet their new daughter-in-law. She tells them she has no idea what they are talking about and his parents leave. Then she has a big fight with a friend and spends the night at the shop. Mitch thinks that she spent the night with another guy. He mother then returs home. What does she think of the "new" house? What will happen between Meland Mitch? To find out the rest you will have to read the book. I give this a good review for entertainment but a shaky review for realism.`
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! I couldn't put it down! Review: Seventeen-year-old Mel decides to redecorate and remodel her filthy and rundown house after her mother goes to a mental hospital due to a mental breakdown. While searching for furniture at a junk shop, she meets Mitch Hamilton, who turns out to be a famous rock star! This book is great!
