Summary: One of my FAVORITES!
Review: I loved this book ever since I read the first letter. It is a great story of how a teenage boy's life gets turned around when he has to go from being a mountain man to a village person. I thought that the best part of the book, and I'm sure others will agree with me, was the ending. In fact, I even cried. No one dies or anything, but just the idea of Daniel having to give up everything he's ever known, and I am not a person who cries a lot. I would strongly recommend this book to any reader, no matter what kind of books they like the best, because everyone will like this one.

Summary: It was a really great book
Review: I loved this book. It was hard to put down. I loved the way that it ended.

Summary: This was very well written!
Review: I love Elizabeth's books! I own two of them. I own The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and Signs of A Beaver. This one was better than all of them!

Summary: Suspence, adventure and emotional growth of responsibility
Review: This is a very moving and thought provoking book. One I can highly recommend to any reader. The story unfolds from carefree vengence to a maturing sense of responsibility. Not only will each character find a place in your heart but they will become a piece of you that you can identify with from each step of your life. See how life was back in the Roman times and how people strived for the same inner goals as we have today.

Summary: I loved it!
Review: "The Bronze Bow" was one of the best books I've ever read that was assigned by my teacher. I read it in 6th grade, and loved the format of the story. Elizabeth George Speare is a great authoress, and I'm loking forward to read the other books she's written.

Summary: The Bronze Bow is my absolute favorite book!
Review: I read this book last year in 6th grade. I really enjoy historical fiction, but I had never gotten a chance to read a book about Jesus's time. Elizabeth George Speare has such flair with her characterization! I could vividly picture the characters in my mind -- Daniel especially. She was really able to show how he changed his feelings, emotions, and ideas throughout the book. It was also interesting to see the different persceptives people had about Jesus. I'm looking forward to reading this book again when I'm older so I can get even more out of it. I recommend this to anyone interested in Jesus's time and historical fiction.

Summary: My children and I enjoyed this story very much.
Review: This is very good historical fiction. It is fast paced, dramatic, and colorful. The story describes the plight of Roman-occupied Isreal and provides the reader with some insight into the beginnings of Christianity. We are not religious but this is a very relevant topic for anyone living in our culture. This story also provides a springboard for discussing how the conflicts in Daniel's life parallel the circumstances other young people living in Isreal today.

Summary: Very good book!
Review: I enjoyed the Bronze Bow. It was a change from Speare's usual Colonial America books. I enjoyed the beginning like most Speare books and this one actually kept me hooked. I didn't care much for some of the characters though. But I did like the descriptions and the reality of Leah, who became my favorite. But this book may get some people not so happy, due to religious things.

Summary: Way better than The Witch of Blackbird Pond!
Review: The author of this book, Elizabeth George Speare, also wrote The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Both of them won a Newberry Medal. This book is so much better than "Blackbird Pond". It kept my attention and I couldn't put it down! The book taught lessons of leadership, patience, care, and love. It wasn't a romantic book but it was more about loving the people that matter to you and also loving your enemies.

I have recently been reading Tom Clancy novels that teach nothing of the sort but I found this book at a bookstore warehouse that was going out of business and I decided to give it a chance even though I didn't like my previous experience with the author. Everyone deserves a second chance, right? I am very glad that I chose to read this book and I think that you are missing out if you don't read it.

Summary: A recommended book for homeschoolers....
Review: We included this title for our 6th grade son's home school reading for the ancient history time period. You can read from other reviews what the book is about. My review is targeted for those using the book for education vs. entertainment.

The book is an entertaining read. It held my attention and I have read so many books that a novel must be well-written for me to enjoy it. The flavor of the book reminded me a bit of Louis L'Amour's "The Walking Drum" - which was one of my favorite easy-read's for a long time.

The book does a good job showing the character development of it's principle character. He goes from being selfish to being responsible for others. We see him change as he really opens his eyes to the world & people around him.

One aspect I like about the book is that the author lets you "live" in the character's shoes. Kids will relate to the idealism, daring & comradery. As the main character grows emotionally & spiritually, we begin to see that life is much more dangerous, complex & frightening than a youth might appreciate. Your friends are not always your true friends and those who irritate you might be your salvation.

The book has a strong element of Christianity which will appeal to those who are of that faith. Christ plays a somewhat significant role in the book. While I didn't nec. agree with the description of "the piercing eyes" and all that jazz..the book was able to portray that "God's ways are not our ways" and "God's thoughts are not our thoughts." In the end, the young man is able to let go of his hatred & live for the first time in his life at peace with God & man.

I do recommend the book for it's readability & lessons, however I have it a 4 instead of a 5 because it is not heavy on history, not even as much as a Louis L'Amour novel is...or GA Henty.

Hope this helps
