Summary: A very good novel
Review: I was impressed with the way Jesus was in the story:rarely spotlighted, but significant nonetheless.Use of historical times and even historical characters(Jesus and his apostles) enahnces the story further. The main characters had to realize that Jesus was a Saviour, each in his or her own way.Leah was wonderful, because she always knew Jesus was special. She had the sort of simple, childlike Faith in Jesus which He responds the best to.The story shows the trust and intimacy that can grow between friends-of more than one sort.

Summary: Very offensive material to Jewish people.
Review: The premise of the story is that Jewish people have been looking in the wrong direction. Jews need to follow Jesus otherwise they are materialistic and full of vengeance. All the characters (of course they are Jewish) who accept Jesus are loving. Those who do not are narrowminded, mean, and self-centered. Throughout the book, the author belittles Judaism, while at the same time, never really explains Judaism. Does the author have any real knowledge about Judaism? How can she criticize a religion if she does not understand its beliefs or practices? Many of the comments I have read come from school age children. This book promotes one religion over another and should not be used for instruction in the public schools. There are many books that teach concepts of love and peacefulness without getting into religious material. The religious nauture of this book offends me. If my children were required to read this book, I would be furious.

Summary: Best book I've ever read!
Review: This book was great! I love how Daniel is acts just like any other person bent on revenge! The ending was great too, but I had to read it two times before I actually got the ending (i'm kinda slow). You shouldn't read this if you don't like violence. I was assigned to read this in 6th grade. My class is still reading this right now and they are just about 1/4 of the way through, but I just had to read the rest! I couldn't stop reading! I found myself saying repeatedly, "one more chapter and I'm going to bed." The only thing I wanted to know was what happened to Rosh and the guys over on the mountain? This book was awesome!

Summary: "FOR GOD'S VICTORY"
Review: This is a serious story with a gripping plot about brutality in ancient Palestine. I feel this book is really more for adults that for children because the protagonist is already 18 at the outset, doing a man's job (blacksmith/bandit). The themes of hatred and revenge are adult as well. We read of the espionage adventures of four Hebrew teens, struggling to maintain their Jewish heritage and national identity in the face of ruthless Roman occupation. Scholars are awaiting the Messiah; while hotheads, called Zealots, are working covertly to forment insurrection and gather followers to ultimately challenge the military might of their oppressors.

Young Daniel is particularly adamant in his passion to strike back, since he witnessed the crucifixion of his own father. He has vowed to dedicate his life to the violent removal of Romans soldiers from his homeland. Gradually, however, he is drawn to a different outlook on life, from a Nazarene carpenter, whom he hears speak at a synagogue and later by the seaside. Daniel is torn between philosophies of peace and violence, for Jesus also proclaims the coming of the Kingdom--which to Daniel means: the overthrow of Rome. Invite the enemy into his home?--Never!

Very serious with good plotting and plenty of action and dialogue. Includes some Old and New Testament references. What is strong enough to conquer Hatred? Will Daniel ever agree to coexist in peace with the despised Romans? An excellent read any time of year, but particularly from Lent to Pentecost. No Crucifixion or Resurrection scenes, but there is plenty of blood and gore. The book stresses the internal battle and mental anguish of the young heroes, as they strive to serve their country and develop their social conscience. This book should not offend Jews or Christians.

Summary: This book is about religios freedom and the price of it.
Review: I think this book is REALLY interesting and and action packed! SPEARE really showed the truth about the Roman empire. I learned a lot from the decriptions of ancient Palastinia. I dont suggest it for people who dont like books with religon in it.

Summary: Great for family reading
Review: Our family is always looking for a good book to read during family reading hour in our home. This has proven to be one of our favorites. We enjoyed the adventure, the history, and the moral tone of this one. The book gave us a platform for discussion and investigation of world cultures. The story was a reminder of the importance of friendship, choices we make, and building character. The children asked each evening..." can we please read one more chapter?" The book was enjoyed by children, teens, and adults ranging in ages 7-45.

Summary: One of the best books of all times!
Review: Elizabeth George Speare is one of my favorite authors. Her books have won many awards. I do believe one of the first books I've read of hers was the "Witch of Blackbird Pond" which was magnificant! I looked in the library in her section and found one book titled "The Bronze Bow", and I thought "Hey, her first book was good, I'll try this one." It turns out I've read it three times, and loved every part of it! I've read alot in my time, and I've got to say, that I love that book, and it's author.
