Summary: Review of Bronze Bow
Review: Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare
Houghton Mifflin Co

Act like a rock, if you don't want to be shot, if you like adventure, and suspense,Bronze Bow is the book for you. This fiction is great,It takes place during the Roman Empire and not knowing what's around the corner this is the book for you.

Daniel is a boy who ran away from his Blacksmith master and lives on the mountain. Daniel is a village kid. But living on the mountain he learns to survive on his own. Rosh is the leader. Joel is a boy who with his sister Theaface goes up on the mountain for a holiday. Joel is an old friend of Daniel that's why he goes with him. Joel joins Daniel on his adventure for Rosh. Rosh is a famous bandit. They also find a big slave they call Samson, he's HUGE !
This is a definite page turner. I recommend that you read this book it's great for people who like fiction with a lot of action. It's really mysterious. Do Rosh and his crew go after the Romans. Read the book to find out.

Summary: An inspiring and exciting book
Review: "He hath trained my arms for war, so I can bend a Bow of Bronze." I loved this book for many reasons, #1, it is very deatailed, almost as if you are seeing out of Daniel's eyes. It shows what it is like to be under the rule of an empire. It describes his feelings very clearly. #2 It is exiting. There is fire for war in Daniel's eyes. There is strategy, skill, and breathtaking moments that will keep you reading. WARNING WARNING: IF YOU ARE UNDRE THE AGE OF 12, YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE THIS BOOK. IF YOU ARE ANY AGE, IT MIGHT GET BORING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOOK. DO NOT ABANDON IT!!!! I PROMISE IT WILL GET BETTER. Everything else about this book is perfect. Enjoy!:)

Summary: Educational but somewhat bland
Review: I agree with the young reviewers. As an adult I was able to get throught this, but since I had purchased it for my 10 year old son, it soon became evident to me that this was way above his reading level, and social maturity for him to really be able to enjoy it or get much out of it. It seemed to have a really negative overtone since the main character was so negative and it ended abrubtly and a bit to neatly. The characters were not really well developed. It seemed more like a narration and although one could learn a little about Jewish culture from it, it was not a really enjoyable read. If you are a homeschooler looking for a book for your children, read the reviews by the children here, not the adults. Overall, most of the children here did not enjoy the book and found it difficult to read.

Review: I read this as a requirement in 5th or 6th grade along with 7 other students. Not one of us liked this book and we couldn't get through it, either. It was hard to read and in the end we didn't understand the point of the story or what happened in it because it was so long and detailed. While the other groups were onto their 2nd or 3rd books, we were still on our 1st. I suggest this book would be best for readers over elementary school age.

Summary: I have never forgotten
Review: When I was in seventh grade we read books to earn points to win prizes. Now, almost seven years ago, there are few books that I remember reading then. However, there is one book that has never escaped my memory. I purposely searched for this book on the web. The story of a powerful hate turned to the realization that love is the stronger of all emotions and more powerful than all feelings. Suffering is something each person must face at some point in their life, and the outcome of their sufferings is what they have learned. I place The Bronze Bow highly. It is not so well known as other books such as Ben-Hur, but should be considered among it's equals. This book teaches and feels. It is a wonderful and beautiful telling of tragic losses and even greater gains through God. Every heart should know such examples of God's love and mercy. The story is fiction, yet it is true.

Summary: Bowdlerized Ben Hur
Review: My son has had to read this book as part of his "integrated" sixth grade curriculum, a literature-class assignment coordinated with his social studies work on Greece and Rome. Teachers, beware! It's a lousy choice. First, it's sadly a-historical; the portrayal of provincial affairs in the Roman Empire of the 1st Century is wildly misleading and anachronistic. Second, it's offensively crypto-Christian -- offensive to children of Jewish and non-religious culture. Third, it's a mere rewrite of Ben Hur in teenage drag. Fourth, it's long and boring. Don't use it!

Summary: "'He hath crafted for me a bow of bronze.....'"
Review: This is a story about an 18 yr. old Jewish boy, Daniel, who wants to get even with the Romans for killing his father. So, he joins a Zealot gang. But Joel's, his friend, father, a rabbi, is teaching a lesson. And even Jesus said that you should 'love your neighbor as yourself'. Daniel can't believe. He is pulled by the loyalty of Joel, the love of Thatica, Joel's sister, and the needs of his 'be-deviled' sister, Leah. In the end, Daniel understands and obeys Jesus and welcomes the Romans and in turn, Jesus cures Leah.
