Dana Davidson visits the very real yet sensitive issue of teen relationships in JASON & KYRA. The story introduces us to Jason and Kyra, two teenagers that seemingly have nothing in common. Jason is a star basketball player, handsome, popular and smart. Kyra, on the other hand is a free spirit, unafraid to express her individuality. In high school however, being an individual can sometimes make you an outsider. Kyra is extremely smart, driven, and has clear goals for her future; yet she is shunned by the popular kids. When Jason and Kyra are paired by their teacher to work on a class project together, Kyra's preconceived notions of Jason cause a fair amount of tension. However, over time the two get to know each other on a deeper level and a special relationship is formed.
More than anything, JASON & KYRA is a well told love story. The author does an excellent job bringing very real teen issues to life in an interesting manner. She addresses such things as peer acceptance, abstinence, safe sex, family issues, academic pressures, and substance abuse without being preachy. The characters faced real life issues and feelings in way that young adult readers are sure to relate to and enjoy. Despite the fact that the book is over 300 pages, it is well-paced and interesting. My only complaints about the book was that at times the dialogue seemed more like adults talking than teens and certain aspects of the plot seemed unrealistic given the age of the characters. In spite of this, I am sure young readers will quickly find themselves engrossed in this story.

I admire her for writing a love story with African-American characters without stereotypes that are so prevalent in many books out today. The characters were from all walks of life and written with such care that I couldn't put this book down. You'll find yourself rooting for Jason and Kyra. There's nothing like the feeling of a first love.
I would definitely read something from this author again. Buy this book, you won't be disappointed.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: LOVED IT!!!! Review: As an avid book reader, I'm usually critical of the novels I read, but all I can say about Jason & Kyra is that it is one of the most if not the most well written books I have ever read! Davidson's prose pulls you in from the beginning, and the writing isn't condescending like so many other teen books can be. She is real with everything from Jason and Kyra's relationship to the relationship of Jason with his father. This is book can truthfully be classified as a PAGE TURNER, I couldn't put it down. Major props to Dana Davidson for an off tha chain plot, and characters that you become attatched to right away. This book is wonderful and I recommend that all people read it!!!!!!!!

Review: as an avid reader of both adult and teen fiction, i can say definitively this was a great story! there was romance without the details being too graphic. as an african american female, it was absolutely refreshing to read about african american charachters (who everyone could relate to) that were not involved in gang activity or drug use. this was a really well written story about trust, love and friendship, individuality and it being ok to be a smart girl! totally enjoyable! i can't wait to read something else from this author!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: KUDOS KUDOS KUDOS Review: I am a parent of a (2) teenaged daughteres. On June 9th I met the author Dana Davidson at the Barnes & Noble bookstore, she asked if I was looking for a book for a teen. I told her no, and why was she asking. She told me about her book, I purchased it to support her as an African-American author and she politely offered to sign it. Well I must say, that the book "Jason & Kyra" was superb. It brought back memories of my first love and what it truly is like. The characters of Jason & Kyra are really true to life characters of any high school young lady and young man. I highly recommend this book to every teen. This is indeed a must read. If you are a parent of a teen, I recommend that you read it also. This book is a good icebreaker in talking with your teens about being in love and what that feels like and things that could lead to other things. (hint). Also, I love that you used the city of Detroit in your book. Kudos again to Dana Davidson, you have done a wonderful job. God bless you in all of your endeavors. It was an honor and pleasure to meet you on that day. My daughter can finally read the book I finished it on June 12th. I can't wait for your next book. Wishing you much more success. Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Really great Boy meets girl.. Review: The first time I took up this book and read the synopsis of it I was totally intrigued. This is Ms. Davidson first novel and what a first impression she has made. The book is about two African American teenagers who are total opposite. Jason, the star athlete who is gorgeous and dress smartly and Kyra, the nerd who does not bother to perm her hair but braid it and who is not into designer clothes. They have notice each other before but were never in the same circle. They are eventually brought together by an English Project. In the beginning they had preconceived ideas about each other ,she thinking he is a dumb jock and he thinking she is all about being a brain. They eventually start falling for each other, the catch is Jason already has a girlfriend Lisa. The book goes into detail about their growing affection to love for each other. The book also touches very deep topics. Jason having to deal with an alcoholic father who is also a widower. Jason mother died when he was three years old. The book also discusses Kyra studying hard to win a Science contest and Jason trying to win the state championship. Both of them had to deal with criticism from their fellow students thinking they togetherness must be a lame joke. Though I am not a teenager the book is very believable an example of that is Jason having to deal with the fact that his new girlfriend Kyra is not ready to go all the way, him coming from a relationship where he was getting it all the time. In these scenes in the book you see the angst between his deep feeling of him trying to be patient and her wanting to but being scared great read. I look forward to this author next novel.
