Rating: Summary: The best fiction story ever written, based on fact. Review: Catherine Marshall's fictional story, based on actual facts that happened to her mother Leonora Wood, is the most inspirational, captivating and moving story I've ever read. Mrs. Marshall takes the readers into the story through Christy Huddleston's eyes. You can actually believe you're Christy back in 1912, and these things are happening to you. There are some tender moments in this story, some funny ones, and (in my opinion) one POWERFUL one near the end of the book involving Christy and Doctor Neil MacNeill (my two favorite characters). I must warn you, though. If you're tender-hearted, be prepared to weep with some sadness and then great joy as Christy becomes sick near the back of the book, and Dr. MacNeill is with her. Read it for yourself, and you'll see what I mean. It's awesome!!
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable Review: The story of a couragious young woman who sets out into the uncivilized wilderness of America, how she alters the lives of its inhabitants, and how she must follow her heart to decide between the marriage proposals of two very different men. Simply inspirational.
Rating: Summary: Christy Review: Christy was the best book I ever read. I've just finished reading it and I've already started to read it again, it was so good.Catherine Marshall did an excelent job writing this book, her writing can take you to the mountains with Christy, MIss Alice, David, Little Burl, and Doctor MacNeill. My favorite part in the book was the last passage. Catherine Marshal goes into enough depth to really make you feel like you are in the room with Christy and Doctor MacNeill. Reading it gave me goosebumps!! I'd love to tell what what happens but you have to read the book for yourself. I would really recomend that you read it.
Rating: Summary: Christy Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was very exciting! I am 11 and had seen the Christy movies, but the book is so much better. You really need to read it!
Rating: Summary: "Inspiring" is an understatement Review: I just finished reading this book. I am 26 years old, and I can't tell you how many times someone has suggested I read this when I was younger. I should have taken their advice years ago. The cover of this book says that the Boston Globe called it "Inspiring" and I completely agree. This is the most heartwarming and inspiring book I've ever read. It gave me a whole new outlook on my own spirituality and let me see into the past and heritage of my grandfather, who grew up in the very mountains and the very time period this book takes place in. I was amazed at my own reaction to this book. It is an incredible find. I haven't been this excited about a book since I read The Awakening.
Rating: Summary: Christy by Catherine Marshall Review: This has been the start of some "eye openings." We live in the state of VA and our public city schools in Roanoke are much more questionable than our family thought. Our daughter, a 10th grader, needed to do a book report. The school list to choose from left no question that the choices were theirs or none. The titles were not any that we would really choose for our children. When we ask the teacher we were given the, church and state, review. When we pushed the issue we were told to make a list and they would choose. Although none of the titles were of pure religion, none were acceptable. We talked with the schools principal, which is a very good Christian woman, she "off the record" offered the "Christy" book. I had read it years ago but not thought of it. It has been a wonderful way for our daughter to testify with out pushing the church and state issue. Thank God that He does, always, provide a way even in the days we are living in now. It is not easy for any child to live for God in our public schools today, but in a small way He has allowed us to. Thank you to Catherine Marshall and all the people who made this book available to us all. It is truly a wonderful book!!!
Rating: Summary: A universal story of faith with something for every reader Review: "Masterpiece" is the only word for this book. On the surface, it is the story of a Christian young lady who, against her parents' wishes, goes to a poverty striken mountain community to join a mission and teach. You would think only Christians would relate, but anyone with faith will find something here. I am Jewish and I loved the message that faith brings about change in our lives. The romantic triangle is interesting, but it is not the true focus of the book. Faith is the focus. The audiobook read by Kellie Martin is exquisite - her smart, wonderful voice, the mountain music, the story - just beautiful!
