Rating: Summary: This is my favorite book. Review: I first read this book as a stressed out summer camp worker. It changed the rest of my summer. Christy sets an example of how to find the beauty in all of God's creation. After reading it, I started noticing wildflowers and colorful mushrooms in the woods that I had never noticed in all of three summers I spent working at the same camp. I started finding new depths of love an patience for the campers and my coworkers. Christy's growing faith in God, optimism, and love for nature is that contagious.
Rating: Summary: A book to read again and again Review: The book's theme transends times. The religous trials can be applied to today's times as well. It has all the elements of a great novel. Mystery sourounding the doctor and Miss Alice, and the family fueds of the mountain people adds the element of suspense. A love triangle you never see coming and friendship that warms the heart. This is definately a book you can read again and again.
Rating: Summary: All-Time Favorite (a classic) Review: This is a great book to pull out every year or two, and re-learn those lessons you forgot you learned. A great source of inspiration - you gain a lot of Christian insight through the experiences and lessons of the characters. This is also a good example of rural Appalachian culture.

Rating: Summary: This book is moving and inspiring Review: Christy is such a beautifully written book. I have read it twice and her life has been an inspiration to me during some challenging times in my life. This is a must read for young girls who are facing decisions in their lives or trying to find their purpose. It's a must read for marriages, though Christy is single she is struggling to decide which man is made for her. It's a must erad for missionaries as it strips the mystiques away and shows the true hard work and daily chores of living with the impoverished. This is again a beautiful true story, beautifully told. I will read it to my daughter.
Rating: Summary: Way up there with Lord of the Rings! Review: And that's saying something! :) I'm definitely not saying it's anything *similar* to LotR, because it's not, I'm just saying that it's *almost* as good. It's about a 19-year-old girl named Christy Huddleston who goes to teach school at a mission in a place called Cutter Gap in the Great Smokies of Tenessee. The year is 1912. This is an incredible book about a citified girl who finds adventure, hardships, challenges, maturity, God, joy and (of course) romance. It's very wonderful to find such perfect balance of all elements. It's quite rare to find a book that actually mentions, (gasp!) *GOD* that is not way overboard and in the preachy department. In fact, I think the way that religion was tied in was just perfect. Then, my favorite part would have to be the romance. A very frustrating one, one of those where she thinks she's in love with one, but is actually in love with the other. Not too frustrating though. I've read plenty of those (Anne of the Island, cough cough!). My brothers, who are adamantly against romance, and always bury their heads in pillows when anything romantic comes up anywhere. In Christy's story, they are fascinated, and my youngest brother, who at first really didn't like Christy, says that "I only keep going to see who Christy marries," :) The thing is, the romance is only a big thing if you make it so. There just happens to be a cute young preacher and a hot doctor with a sexy Scottish brouge in the vicinity, both of whom have a major crush on Christy! :)T his is by no means a romance novel. I just personally am a fan of one of Christy's admirers, (who is, dare I say it, hotter than Aragorn:) But more than the romance, this is an incredible story and the characters are so real to me now. I'm actually now doing some research on Catherine because I'm so interested in this whole story. A must-read!!!...
Rating: Summary: Christy-An Exellent Book Review: Christy-The thought of that book just makes me think of the way that Catherine Marshall writes about her mother and how she went to Cutter Gap, TN and to teach those children. Fairlight really is a "different breed of woman". Catherine has details, details, and details. This book is just the best book ever. And you know what, I'm going to log off and go pick up Christy and read it over for the 3rd time!
Rating: Summary: Warm and Wonderful Review: Catherine Marshall's loving tribute to her mother Lenora Wood's time in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee teaching the poor children of Cutter Gap and the effect it had on her life is captured with warmth and beauty in this fine audio book. It is made all the more special as it is read by Kellie Martin. She starred in the two hour film and the origional series, and for most people, including myself, will always be Christy Huddelston. It is rare when an audio book is this good. Nothing is ever a substitute for reading the book but having done both I can honestly say you have to own this. It is an excellent companion to the book and the series and is nice to have around. Just as she did in the series, Kellie Martin perfectly captures the great beauty of these mountains and the poverty of it's people. Occasional and brief interludes of banjo music frame this heartwarming, and sometimes heartbreaking, thinly disguised biography of this young and exuberant 19 year old girl who falls in love with the children of Cutter gap. This seems more like a telling of a story than a reading and that in itself separates it from other audio books. Martin captures the joy and humor as well as the conflict and resentment as the school and church butted heads over moonshine. She captures the romance that begins to blossom and Christy's divided heart. This may be warm family entertainment but it has substance as well. Those who are fans of the beloved bestseller and the fine series that was to good to stay on television for long will not be dissappointed. The emotions of Christy and her resolve to stay in this place and teach are lovingly brought to life here by Kellie Martin and the wonderful words of Catherine Marshall. Particularly moving is the relationship of Christy and Fairlight Spencer, a strong but delicate woman who offers her friendship. As her light begins to fade into the shadows it is truly moving. I highly recommend this one. It's a loving tribute to a life devoted to children. Filled with love and joy this is one audio book you'll savor and enjoy over and over...
Rating: Summary: This book is great. (Very interesting). Review: I have only read the first three or four chapters but so far I have really enjoyed this book. It is about a 19 year old girl named Christy who left her home to go teach at Cutter Gap in the Smokey Mountains. She meets a lot of new people who thinks she should not have left her home. When she first got there a man was trying to find her. It was storming and snowing really bad and a tree fell on top of him. It caused severe bleeding in his brain and the doc of the town had to do brain surgery and drill a whole in his brain to remove the bleeding. He made it through his first night after the surgery and is doing well. That is basically as far as I have gotten in the book but so far it is really interesting and I can't wait to finish it to find out what happens. If you like love stories and all that mushy stuff then this is the book for you.
