Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An unforgettable read for all ages Review: After hearing one of my friends rave about Harley, Like A Person, I decided I had to read it. I picked it up one day and saved it for a long plane ride. The moment I opened its pages, I was pulled into Harley's world. Few authors have a talent like that of Ms. Bauer: the talent to pull readers into their literature so that one feels that he or she is hanging on to every word, that his or her breath moves with the rythm of that of the character, that one feels like they ARE the character for a moment. I, being a teenager (and one who does not exactly have a storybook relationship with my family and friends), can relate to Harley so much at times, it is almost scary. I came to the point where I found myself hoping for her to come out unscarred, as if she were a real person. I realize I am rambling, but perhaps one has the right to ramble over a single book that allowed them to see life through the eyes of someone else, someone that seemed to come alive right from the pages. I do not want to spoil anything for you, as it is the most fun to read a novel if you do not know what's coming. All I can say is that, if you are open-minded (and human), you will find yourself relating to Harley, no matter how different you may be from her character. Sure, everyone will not have the same raving opinions of it as I do, but if you read this novel, I can almost guarentee that you will like, if not ADORE, it.

I hate this house, and I hate everyone in it!” Harley Like a Person is a wonderful story of girls fight against the people she can’t stand, her parents, and for the things she loves, like painting. Her life seems to start falling apart when she starts to believe she is adopted and her abusive parents won’t hear a word of it. She finds comfort in art, something her parents say is frivolous and too expensive. Harley struggles to find out where she comes from, all while holding what seems like the weight of the world on her shoulders. Cat Bauer has the best character development I have ever read. It is so easy to get into the characters, they are so detailed, so heart felt, and so real. You crack open the book and suddenly you are Harley, struggling to juggle home and school life. You look out her blackened eyes, glaring at her drunken father. You feel the hate and fear whenever he walks into the room. Never has a book felt so real to me. I recommend this book to anyone who has the chance to read it. It is compelling and fills you with overwhelming emotion. Never have I had such hatred for a character in a book, as I had for the people who were tying Harley down. You’ll be surprised by how much emotion can come out of the written word. [...]

Review: Harley like a person, by Cat Bauer is the story of a young teenage girl living in suburbia. She lives with her family but believes that she is adopted, so she goes on a long search for who her real father is. Harley goes on many intresting adventures, making new friends that don't turn out so great, her thoughts and feelings about everything... when you finish with the book you won't really surprised with the ending, but it is a really great story. I really liked it because Harley sounds like someone that lives in everyones head, she is very straightfoward and honest and she sais her everythoughts when something happens..( like how she felt the first time she tried pot...) I think that people should defenitly read this book, its funny, descriptive and beautiful..

Harley Columba lives with her strict, sneaky mother, drunk, violent father, younger brother Bean, and younger sister Lilly. Her school life for the most part in normal, but her home life is not. Harley constantly hides from her drunk father, and feels the only way to escape her family problem is by painting. Harley loves to paint. Through her life, Harley was sure that the two crazy people, said to be her parents, weren't, and that she was adopted. Harley starts to investigate and finds a doll that leads to the truth about her past. As the Columba family gets worse and worse, Harley wants anything to get away from them. She slowly falls into the wrong crowd. Before she knows it Harley is going to parties, getting drunk, and smoking pot. The one thing in life that Harley loved, the painting for the school drama club, is taken away, and she feels her life is ruined. Harley takes a bus from the quiet suburbia Lenape Lakes to wild New York City, in search of the truth about her father. Though her journey is short, she finds all she needs, and though frightened, returns to the Columba home. Harley Like a person, by Cat Bauer was an excellent book. I would recommend it to everyone who wishes to experience the fun, suspense, and excitement that I did.

Because i am a teenager, I could relate most of her feelings to mine. And when literature can give so much insight and give off a feeling to the reader, it truly is a magical book, which can help thousands of teenagers all over the world. Harley's daring but sweet personality creates a world around the imagination, and facinating events engulf and incorperate every emotion that is in a teenage body. This book deals with drugs, sex, drinking, privacy, untruth, and the trials in which a teenage girl deals with. Harley struggles with her family in a quest to find her true parents, and on that pathway, she comes across her true identity, and who she really wants to be...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: ENCORE Review: Harley, Like A Person is by far the best book I have ever read. I don't remember ever having more emotion for a book before in my life. Cat Bauer really lets you get to know all the characters in the book, and just about everything about them. It gives everybody their own... self, instead of leaving people out for readers to guess about. I have never walked away from a book with more feeling towards it than with this book, and it has inspired me to want to become a writer even more than I already have. If I have the chance to influence somebody and leave them with such a (there isn't a word good enough to put here) feeling as it left me with, then I want to take it. Bravo.

Cat Bauer does a great job of personifying Harley in such a way that anyone, no matter what their age, can identify with. Harley is a remarkable character, and you feel you really get to know her, and her feelings in the story. She is very easy to relate to, as you go through her happiness and heartaches in the story. A great book to pass on to friends of all ages.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Not Just For Teenagers Review: I enjoyed reading Harley, Like a Person. I know the book has been classified as "young adult", but as a mother with two young daughters, I'd recommend it to all my friends, especially when their daughters are entering their teen years. It'll serve as a good reminder of what high school is like and how easily it can be for us to fall into the trap of not treating our children with respect and trust and what problems that can cause. The first person narrative moved the story along quickly but still left me with lingering images (e.g., comet covered counter tops, Harley sneaking into her storage space). I even found myself feeling sympathetic to Harley's mother, Peppy, and for the first time, I saw my teen years through my mother's eyes. It's a quick but worthwhile read that I think both mothers and daughters will enjoy.
