Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: This is probably one of the best books i've ever read. I read it many years ago and as i was searching these reviews i was disappointed to see all these people saying that the story is a rip off of the "lord of the rings". I read the lord of the rings and i must say that is was good when i was like 9 years old. Obviously some adolescent wrote that comment cuz the dragonlance books are aimed more at the adult population. we tend to have better judgement. PS. the legends trilogy is the best.
Rating: Summary: excellent book i just rediscovered Review: Weis and Hickman created one of the best high fantasy series ever in the Chronicles and Legends series. I was at my father's house recently and came across these books in the attic. After perusing Dragons of Autumn Twilight for a few minutes I was once again hooked. The time and detail devoted to character and world development is fantastic. The plot is quite good as well. I would most certainly recommend these books to anyone who likes fantasy novels. One suggestion though, you may want to read the Soulforge novel first as this leads nicely into the others.
Rating: Summary: Classic Review: Classic is all that needs to be said. Read Chronicles, then Legends. Read the full set of six. I did in 1985 and was changed forever.NOTE:Lord of the Rings pales in comparison.
Rating: Summary: One of the best fantasy books ever! Review: I first read this book years ago and it has just seem to have got better every time I have read it. The characters are in depth and the detail in the setting is immense. It is a tribute to the authors who have written great books that give life to the world of Krynn.
Rating: Summary: An unforgetable experience! Review: Never before (with the obvious exception of J.R.R. Tolkien books), have I ever been so captivated in a book before. Weis and Hickman sit on the righthand side of Tolkien's throne, and are glued on their seats. Every character in this well written novel, is unique in their own way. With Tanis as the acting leader, Raistlin as the ambitious mage, etc. You will feel for every single character, and find yourself picking favorites (mine is Raistlin). This is a truly original story and does NOT PLAGURIZE Tolkien! The same could be said of all fantasy writters because Tolkien was basically the first and best. But if there were ever a fantasy series as good as Tolkien's, then this is it. I highly recommend for any fantasy lover to buy this book, It's an unforgetable experience!
Rating: Summary: Best series of books i've ever read! Review: The Dragon Lance series is a great read! The illustrations are wonderful and it excites your imagination. But so far I've only liked the ones by Weis and Hickman. But D of AT starts of the adventure and is worth your time.
Rating: Summary: My favorite fantasy novel. Review: This is the book that started it all for me. The characters and storyline draw you in and dont let you go. Raistlin and Tanis are some of the best fantasy characters out there. I would still like to see more adventures from their earlier days but I can always re-read this on. A keeper for sure.
Rating: Summary: it was absolutely fascinating Review: First I wasn't quite interested in the book.I thought no other book can match Lord of the Rings which is my favourite book(and still is) but when I started reading, I was captured by the development of the story. It's as good as Lord of Rings to me. The beginning was fine. When I read through it get more and more exciting and the epilogue was fascinating.I hope the other titles of the Dragonlance will be published in Turkey where I live soon.
Rating: Summary: Throwaway Review: hmmm... obviously a great number of people enjoyed this book, and I must say that I found it interesting, but good it is not. This book rips great bleeding chunks from 'The Lord of the Rings', whilst making no attempt to conceal the fact. For Hobbits, read Kender, for Riders of Rohan, read Knights of Solamnia, etc, etc. Even the concept of the travelling 'fellowship' is pure plagarism. Each to his own of course, but I strongly suggest that you look elsewhere for truly inspired fantasy (Tolkien, Vance, Moorcock)
Rating: Summary: Weis and Hickman dazzle and deliver Review: Here dawns the best fantasy saga of all time. I can't praise this book and the entire Chronicles series enough. It has everything you would expect from goblins, centaurs and unicorns to breathtaking dragons. It introduces new races such as the mischievous kender and the baneful draconians. The world of Krynn and its diverse inhabitants is matched only by Tolkien's Earth. The books are written in a way that would appeal to both younger and older generations of readers for different reasons. The characterisations are superb and the disparate plots are well executed. In essence, this is a story of good versus evil not just in the world of Krynn but also epitomised in the inner conflict of our hero Tanis. What impressed me the most about the trilogy was that the authors were not afraid to unleash the true omnipotent power of dragons. This is where I feel many other fantasy authors (Eddings, McCaffrey and Brooks to name but a few) have failed. I hope the rumours of the movie are untrue. However well it maybe filmed, it will not be the same as reading this masterpiece with your own imagination; that is, it will not be your Tanis, your Tas, your Raistlin or your world of Krynn.
