Rating: Summary: Masterpiece of insight, honesty and courage. Review: I was told by a teacher to read this book 25 years ago. I only did so two weeks ago. There are many heroes from many ethnic groups, but few have spoken with such honesty-there is little self delusion here. He was clearly a hard man on others but also on himself. With much reason to hate he overcame hatred. Whatever your ethnic background you should read this work. Occasionally at the end you feel he may be overimpressed with celebrities, yet where he came from and what he achieved makes this understandable. You have the feeling this man would never have sold out-that can be said about few. He cuts through all the rhetoric which surrounds so much writing today. A hero as much as King or Mandela.
Rating: Summary: Breath-taking Review: This is the story of a man who is not as saint and admits it. He made mistakes in his life and he had troubles but he uplifted himself and became a better person for it.
Rating: Summary: All around it was good, very few flaws. Review: Normally I don't like to read autoboigraphies, but this one was very good. Malcolm X has lead a very interesting life. `The only problem that I had with it was at times he seemed to be braging. It did use great imaging techniques. I could just about visualize the whole thing in my head. I think this is a book everyone should read. It will be worth your time.
Rating: Summary: It's About the evolution of a Human Being not a Monster Review: The importance of this book lies in that it shows how people can evolve regardless of there environment. And also how one can turn adversity (going to jail), into growth and awareness. Unfortunate as it is to say, he didn't get a chance to finish his evolution because of the limited frustated people around him. When you read the book you will understand why. Read this book and then finish up with the book, "The Final Speeches". Had Malcom X lived, he would have become one of the great humanitarians of the 20th century. This seems odd because of the way he was turned into a villian by the press. One things for sure; We should all try to internalize his penetrating need for truth.
Rating: Summary: One of the most important books you'll ever read. Review: This is one of the most important books any American can ever read. Through Alex Haley, Malcolm X presents his own story-- a chronicle of self-education, deceptive tactics present in all organizational and national policitcs, the troubles and joys of urban areas, and the inhuman treatment of black people in America.American schools still teach the languages and history of the "white race", and ignore the precolonial Africa, Asia, and Americas. The organizations and issues of this book still remain. And the message that one person can better him or herself, against overwhelming odds, and help others, is still powerful and relevant. It is important to read this book to understand another shade of the truth different from what the American "history" classes present.

Review: The Autobiography of Malcolm X is the best boook that I have ever read, being an African-American woman I see many things that Malcolm X has said to be true. It opened my eyes and made me view the world differently, I now have a better understanding of my purpose as an African-American!!!!
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life Review: Hi. I am a 17 year old South Asian male. I read this book in seventh grade at the recommendation of several older friends. I think the comments from other customers amply reflect both the historical and contemporary importance of this book. But they missed one key aspect of Malcolm X's message: the importance of EDUCATION. Read. Teach yourself. Study hard. EDUCATE YOURSELF. Malcolm X undoubtedly had a lot of inherent brilliance, and he used that to his fullest. He read widely, thought carefully, and spoke eloquently. Now I reflect on how much that message has inspired me. I have excellent grades, a 1520 SAT, and several national debate titles. I owe a lot of that to Malcolm X.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Review: This is one of the most important books of the century. This book should be required reading for every high school student of every race in the United States. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Rating: Summary: Black men in America, this will help you find your strength Review: Many people think of Malcolm X as having the exact opposite approach to Dr. King's non-violent movement. This is true...for much of Shabzz's life. However, what people always seems to forget is Malcolm's trip to Mecca, where he saw Mulims of all nationalities living together united by the same mission and faith in life, changed his life. What Malcolm came to understand, is that there is ulgy, evil and unparalleled beauty in the human race. As he reflcted back on his life he saw that the abysmal situation blacks were living in were indeed caused by white people, but people nonetheless. When he saw the same color skin on a people in Mecca, he called them brother and not devils. It was this realization, that evil is not encoded in our DNA, but is rather a man made conditioning in our mind, that freed Malcolm from hating the world and hurting his spirit. It is a shame that many remeber him as some advocate for hate, when all he wanted to do was love his people so much that they'd begin to see how exquiste they are. Thank you Malcolm, many understand your true intentions.
Rating: Summary: POWERFUL Review: This book HITS you. It hits you while you read it, a few days after you complete it, and then all through the rest of your life. From street punk to Civil Rights Icon, the life of Malcolm X is told beautifully in this powerful book. A person cannot really claim to know Malcom X--or his or her ownself for that matter--until one reads this book. Buy it, own it, deposit it into your own personal library.
