Summary: maximum stupidity
Review: I really can't think of a more horrible book that I've read besides "Iceberg". The prose is bad, the story is boring and the fight at the end of the book happens in Disneyland. Come on.

Summary: Dirk Pitt - Man of Action (and fashion sense).
Review: I started reading Cussler beginning with "Atlantis Found" and I have gone back to the begining and have been reading the earlier Pitt novels. I would say "Iceberg" is better than "Pacific Vortex" and on par with the "The Mediteranean Caper." It interesting reading (or watching)the characters who are so well developed in "Inca Gold," "Atlantis Found," and "Valhalla Rising" develop. I was disappointed in the absence of Al in this story, kind of like Holmes without Dr. Watson. Pick this book up if you haven't read it and have read others in the series, but I would start off with "Inca Gold" or "Flood Tide" if you haven't read a Pitt adventure before. The later novels in the series feature strong female characters, however, the female character(s) in this one are just window dressing. It is important for the unread Dirk Pitt reader to know that Cussler has learned to write female chraracters much better at time has gone on.

Summary: A hilarious read
Review: I thought this book was hilarious...whenever would you imagine Dirk Pitt, international man of style, in a wool turtleneck and plaid pants? And then there's the get-up for the party!! I know that it was written in teh 70s, but it's still hilarious. I missed Al in this book, but I liked how Admiral Sandecker got a larger role in this one. I think that this book illustrates the relationship between these two great men.

Sure, you know who the bad guy is towards the beginning, but the ending is worth the entertainment---fights at Disneyworld, only Clive Cussler would have pictured it. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the story moving, and enough changes in relationships to entertain.

"My name is Pitt. Dirk Pitt."

Summary: Okay but not the best
Review: I'm a big fan of Cussler's works, but out of all of them I must say that Iceberg was my least favorite. The worst part was the absense of Al Giordino. What's Dirk without Al? Where was he anyway?

Summary: This iceberg doesn't float
Review: I've read most of Cussler's books and in general enjoyed them. Iceberg is clearly one of his lesser works. This is a vanilla novel that any one of a hundred nondescript writers could have authored. There was nothing of note here and some of the plot devices were past the borders of the absurd. Many authors rely on the "amazing coincidence" when they can't come up with a believable way to advance the plot. Iceberg doesn't fall prey to that device but instead goes along other equally absurd paths. A dying man identifies his killer by saying the first three words of a poem before succumbing. If he could think of a poem and say three words, why didn't he just say the name of the killer and saved Pitt the trouble of identifying the poem and having to ferret out the hidden meaning? Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident nor probably the most egregious. In this book we also get to see Pitt torture a helpless prisoner. When I read that, "What was Cussler thinking" immediately came to mind.

Cussler isn't my favorite author but at his best, he is thoroughly enjoyable and Pitt displays wit and daring do. I don't know what went wrong here but if you haven't read a Pitt novel before, I'd chose one at random (with an early copyright date) and you'll undoubtedly have a higher probability of reading a second one than if you start with Iceberg.

Summary: A compelling novel of life against death.
Review: Iceberg by Clive Cussler is a gripping story of Dirk Pitt and his ideas to disrupt Russia's plans once again. Cussler gets you in the action and never truly takes you out. Pitt is cool and calm under the most nearly impossible situations. Cussler shows a side to stories that no other author has. The ability to grab you and not let you go. Once you start reading you can not put the novel down. Cussler makes even the most skeptical readers as myslef, enjoy reading. Maybe that's because you don't think you're reading, you believe you're out in the middle of Russia trying to foil the bad guy's plans. I give Cussler a pure ten. Cussler shows that he is truly an untouchable author in my opinion.

Summary: Iceberg
Review: Iceberg is definitely one of Clive's better novels, and that says a lot! As always Clive Cussler creates an ingenious plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This amazing plot goes from Iceland, to an iceberg or two, to Disney Land? Dirk Pitt again performs incredible feats to save the lives of many. After he is beaten to a pulp by a mad karate master, he is forced to climb a ravine and hike a several hor long voyage across Iceland.... That's just part of this amazing adventure. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially Dirk Pitt fans who have yet to read this one.

Summary: One Thrilling Action-Packed Ride
Review: Iceberg is one of my favorite stories of this phenomenal series. Despite it's faults, such as the absence of familiar characters such as Al Giordano, St. Julien Pearlmutter, and Rudi Gunn; it is a great story filled with action and suspense. It barely ever slows down, and throws in some big twists, especially at the end, where Pitt is hunting criminals in what is the happiest (and my favorite) place on Earth. It is filled with exotic locations, beautiful women, and a lot of great action scenes. Iceberg will always remain one of the best of this series, and I think you will agree.
