Rating: Summary: Good, solid Dirk adventure. Review: Entertaining early Dirk Pitt adventure with a good plot, great locales, some surprising twists and a number of classic--and brutal!--Dirk moments. Word to the wise: if you've yet to read this one avoid the next reviews as they contain considerable spoilers.
Rating: Summary: gimme a break Review: First off, change that one star I had to give to the no stars this atrocious crapfest deserves. This is truly one of the four or five worst novels I've ever tortured myself with. I still can't believe I got there, but the moment I finished the last page I literally threw the book against the wall, I felt so dissatisfied and cheated as a reader. The only thing worse than, "Oooh, I know where to find the Central American presidents in Disneyland, they must be riding the Pirates of the Caribbean," is the stupid sex change. I'd love to take two copies of this book, put them in lunch bags, set one on Mr. Cussler's doorstep and the other on his editor's, set them afire and run and hide and watch giggling as they spatter themselves in brown stomping them out. The only way to force publishers to raise their standards is to stop buying this garbage. I want my money back, along with the wasted hours of my life.

Rating: Summary: OK, But Not Clive Cusslers best work Review: Good adventure and plot but a little less dramatic then Dirks usual adventure. I think the most disapointing factor was that Dirks best friend Al was not present nor mentioned as why he was not in this adventure. I read the previous adventure "Mediterranean Caper" and Al was present throughout this adventure. Over all I am a HUGE Dirk Pitt fan and find all his adventures exciting and "On the Edge". I have a few more of his adventures to read before I move on to Clives newest hero Ken Austin.
Rating: Summary: Another winning adventure for Pitt Review: How many times has it been said, 'Nobody does it better than Cussler'? Well novel after terrific novel that holds true in a big way. This was one of Pitt's earliest adventures (yes, even in his pre-Titanic days he kept busy) and just a winning combination of fun and adventure. First we've got a great mystery in the ship frozen inside an iceberg, Dirk acting less than manly in one portion of the book (and when I say less than manly, well you just gotta read it to find out how UN-manly he acts) and a show-down inside the Pirates of the Carribbean at Disneyland--what more could you ask for in a book (other than the obvious absence of Giordino)? From one harrowing cliff-hanger to another, Dirk manages to do his best to pull off the impossible (yet AGAIN) and he does it in style. On occasion if you'll recall, Dirk goes back to his hanger/home at the airport and it's loaded with his cars, and all kinds of items he's collected over the years...well, if you'll recall his plane and ever wondered where it came from, 'Iceberg' will answer that question for you (that is if you ever HAD that question floating around in your noggin' in the first place...). All in all this wouldn't be Cussler's most intellectual novel, but I don't read a Pitt adventure to expand my intellect anyway. I'm looking for pure fun, and that is exactly what 'Iceberg' provided for me. I'm sure it will for you as well.
Rating: Summary: a good thrill read Review: I agree that the beginning is good, but if you have read othercussler material, you won't be disapionted. Besides the lack of Pitt'sinescapable sidekick Al, Dirk travels to hell and back to get the bad guy and the girl. Besides being a little dated, a good read
Rating: Summary: Do we really want to see the feminine side of Dirk Pitt? Review: I am a big Clive Cussler fan. Iceberg, however, does not come close toCussler's best. Where were Al Giordino and Rudi Gunn? These two charactersreally add flavour to Cussler's stories, but they were never mentioned once in Iceberg. I envision Dirk Pitt as a "James Bond" type. His undercover disguise as a gay cross-dresser really seemed odd for Pitt's character. Despite the above-mentionned weaknesses, Iceberg was still entertaining enough to deserve three stars.
Rating: Summary: Those new to Cussler, be WARNED! Save this one for later! Review: I can only guess that Cussler was feeling experimental with his superhero, the infallible Dirk Pitt. Or maybe this writer was trying to be as adventurous with the written word, as Pitt is in his escapades. The story began in the usual setting where Pitt, a.k.a. "GOOD GUY" just happened to be in the right place at the wrong time because of the usual and equally intimidating "BAD GUY" and it seemed to be somewhat downhill from there. Cussler experiments with just what sort of Pitt extremities his reading audience wants to see and unfortunately, tries to conjure up the image of Pitt saving the world in drag. I can't say that I personally wanted to know that ever in his life, THE GOOD GUY wore a dress. Five o'clock shadow and a skirt doesn't make for a pretty picture. Once dear reader gets past all of the sensational issues and finds out who THE BAD GUY is in this story, the reason for reading becomes even weaker. THE BAD GUY in this episode is somewhat lackluster and his purpose for destruction is not exactly crystal clear. Those with Cussler reading experience know not to dwell on the technicalities or things dear reader doesn't understand and keep moving ever forward. But still... it just doesn't seem to get any better. I won't ruin the ending for dear-reader-to-be, but let's just say that Pitt defies all possible odds, extremities and even the wildest imaginations of most human beings and manages to conquer. But we expected that, else there would not be umpteen more Dirk Pitt adventure novels to read. Cussler just seems to have gone a bit overboard this time, but I suspect that he learned his lesson. American publishers wouldn't touch this one for hardback circulation. Is that a hint?
Rating: Summary: Cussler - always entertaining Review: I enjoyed this book very much. Cussler is like an old friend that never lets you down and you feel at home with. Escapist "trash" with characters that would be great fun to have a beer with after they finish saving the world
