Rating: Summary: A great continuation about our favorite twins! Review: The Elizabeth series is definitly great. I always wondered what the twins would do when they got older, like where they would live and what their jobs would be. In this series, Elizabeth jets off to London in hope of a new start. The only work she can find is the maid of an earl... Everything is so interesting, like the new setting, characters, and plot. It's very descriptive, and you always want to know what will happen next. I definitly recomend this series to others.
Rating: Summary: University Interrupted Review: This book centers on Elizabeth, one of the Wakefield twins. Because of a quarrel with Jessica, she decides to leave the US and heads for London without any money but a sure scholarship in the University of London. But everything is not right when Elizabeth lands on London. For one problem, there's rain, but the trouble doesn't stop there because the scholarship Elizabeth should have was given to another person. Then at the end of the book, she ends up being a maid in an earl's house.

Rating: Summary: Overall, a strong start to an excellent series... Review: This book started the series off a little slow, but seemed reasonable, considering that all the necessary information was given prior to Elizabeth's adventure, so that everything would make sense. Although the book was a little repetitive at times, eventually it picked up and started to get really interesting.Basically the book starts with Elizabeth sitting alone in a diner. She has just witnessed her twin sister, Jessica, and her boyfriend, Sam, making out together. As you can probably imagine, she's having this huge mix of feelings running through her. The reasoning behind Jessica's doings isn't revealed until a little later in the book (after all, we know that she won't intentionally do something like that, especially to her own twin sister). However, Liz seems to think so and ends up deciding to travel to London, where she was recently accepted to the University of London on a full scholarship. She decides to take the chance, with some advice from a new found friend, Daphne, who is also travelling to London to meet up with her boyfriend, after graduating from the University of Chicago. Liz heads to London, after a brief encounter with her parents (she seems to think that they've sided with Jessica) only to discover that her spot has been given to another student from UCLA because she forgot to send the acceptance letter by the deadline. After that, the book goes on to describe her adventures in London, after the Pennington House hires her as a scullery maid. This book was a great take on the life in London, as well as a good lesson in the hardships of regular people. Laurie John is an excellent writer, who sets Liz in a brand new adventure thereby allowing Liz to shine a little on her own for once, without her twin sister by her side. The book is fairly easy to read and is a good length for anyone. It hooks the reader from the beginning of the story to the few pages at the end (and even includes a preview of the next book) and will leave you wanting more. Definitely the best start to a series of any of the Sweet Valley books. If you're a Sweet Valley fan too, I'm sure you'll appreciate this new take on Liz.
Rating: Summary: It was mediocre. Review: This book was okay. If I could do .5's, I'd give it a 3.5. I usually love Sweet Valley books, but this one didn't keep my attention. I only kept reading because I don't like leaving books unfinished. This book is more of an introduction to the series than a real "first book". It shows why Elizabeth decides to go to London and it describes what happens when she gets there, up until the very end, when she finally finds a place to stay & work. The whole thing could've been a chapter or two. I thought the details were too drawn-out, and it was not a real page-turner. I'm hoping the other books in this series will be a lot better.
Rating: Summary: Best SVU in ages!! Review: This has to have been the best SVU book(OK,Elizabeth book!) I've read in waaaay tooo long!!Its exciting, and unlike Freshman year, its pretty realistic. And I'm glad to see that they included Jess too.I like the way Liz is turning out in this new series. She seems to be becoming a lot stronger, and more independant. And I kind of understand her anger at her parents, and she definitely needs to spend some time away from her family. You can really identify with her pain, and Jessica's.It was cool to see Liz living for herself, for a change, and not giving a damn about anyone else.In every SV series Liz has been worrying about other people, and spending her time getting Jessica out of messes she's too old to be in,instead of giving herself room to grow as an individual, and break away from all the unrealistic expectations of her. I really liked the way they've described London through Liz's eyes.I couldn't believe how accurate the descriptions were. The Landmarks, their locations, everything's spot on!I was expecting a major Blooper-fest!!!Downing street really is on the way from parliament to the University of London. And Madame tussaud's really is near the UoL.Cept they've probably romanticised London a bit too much.It isn't half as British as its made out to be. And I like that the twins are both in Real-life situations, like not having any money, instead of ther usual hunted-by-psychos rubbish!I'm really looking forward to the rest of this series, and if the other books are this good,i'm pretty sure I'll buy all the books. And I love the new covers.I was a little shocked at first, but once u get used to them,u can see that they're pretty imaginative, and very well designed. Not like the old, boring covers. It was a good Idea to super-impose real London monuments on an illustrated background
Rating: Summary: University, Interrupted (Elizabeth)--review Review: This is the first of SVU books in a LONG time that the author has FINALLY quit name-dropping every sentence--yay! There's a share in these books, but not nearly as much. The book starts where "Face Off" ends...with Liz, Jess, & crew in Illinois after the betrayal incident. We learn that Jess set up the betrayal to expose Sam for the cheating loser that he always has been, and Jess has a rather dramatic time in Illinois without her money or insurance...Liz decides to accept the writing scholarship in London, and rashly gets on the plane and goes there...the rest of the novel follows her journey. Things don't pan out quite the way she expects, when she arrives at the overcrowded school and her scholarship has been handed to someone else--since she declined it "for Sam" in an earlier novel. So she's forced to take a maid's position in a house of English royalty to live. She meets her fellow maids--one of which is particularly fiesty and has some secrets of her own...a great book, but still not like the first SVU's!
Rating: Summary: it's okay Review: This was a good book, but the whole second half was about Liz walking around in the rain completly broke and without somewhere to go to. I would read the next book though, cause some parts were kinda good.
Rating: Summary: Starts off a little slow, but all and all, an enjoyable read Review: UNIVERSITY INTERUPPTED is the first book in the eagerly anticipated 'Elizabeth' series, which follows one of our favorite Wakefield twins as she begins a new life. Elizabeth is at the end of her rope; she has just caught her sister, Jessica, making out with her boyfriend, Sam. So in her haste she flees the scene, leaving Jessica stranded at the hotel with no money and a bill a mile long. In an amusing B-plot Jessica tries to devise ways of getting out of paying the bill, but ultimately ends up injuring herself in the process. Elizabeth, meanwhile, is crushed. Everything she thought she knew is crumbling down around her, and add to the fact that her parents have chosen to take devious Jessica's side, over responsible, reliable Elizabeth's, finally sends her to her breaking point. Unable to face those who have scorned her, she decides to flee Sweet Valley in hopes of pursuing her London scholarship, which she just recently received. After quite a nasty blowout with her parents, she finally gets the courage to hop on the plane, eager to begin a new life. What awaits here there is not what she expected. Her scholarship has been rejected due to the late response; and she is nearly penniless, and without a place to stay. Now she must rely on her wits end to survive in this foreign country. A decent read; the plot drags a lot at times, but it's nice to finally get some insight into Elizabeth's character, instead of the perfect little princess that she's been built up to be over the years. For once, she's taking a chance; stepping out of her comfort zone. And of course the Jessica parts amused me, but since I love Jess, that's no surprise. The writing is light and shouldn't take you more than two or three sittings to finish. Nothing deep here, but great for an afternoon of mindless fun!
