Summary: Anne Shirley Goodness Will Follow Me All the Days...
Review: I'm stealing the wordplay of my review title from The Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All, but it fits. The reading of Anne of Green Gables will cause you to inherit a patch of happiness which may be taxed but can't ever be taken away.

I came to the series as an adult. I was a bookworm as a child and had a good friend who was the same, so imagine her surprise when she found out at this late age that I'd never met the redheaded wonder that is Anne Shirley. She pestered me to remedy this problem, and so I dutifully obeyed, secretly thinking the books couldn't be *that* good or I'd have read them way back when.

Wrong! Scooch over Little House on the Prairie, we're making room for another classic! The characters are diverse, the situations comical and moving, and the scenery out and out gorgeous. (And if you're weak on your Canadian Maritimes geography, here's the cure.)

I was 30 when I read AoGG, and as I reluctantly closed the covers I still couldn't help wishing I could BE Anne Shirley. I want to move to Prince Edward Island, sign my name Cordelia, and take on the world with feist and freckles.

Like all "girls novels" written in bygone eras, there is sweetness and light by the tablespoonful. But it's very natural and innocent, not preachy and unbelievable. All of the characters have their faults, their very real emotions of doubt, worry, and even crabbiness. But unlike many modern literary creations, they can be as deep as that and still show genuine to-the-bone peace and happiness.

Don't wait until you're 30 to read these books. And if you know a young girl with a stubborn streak, an interest in writing, and the desire to improve the world, these are a must-buy for her next birthday. (And if she likes them, she has another half dozen or so in the series to keep her busy!)

Summary: The most loving, poignant book ever written.
Review: The entire Anne of Green Gables series is absolutely fantastic. From the first time that I read this book and its siblings , I held the series in reverence. I have reread every book at least twenty times and have gotton something wonderful out of it each time. The imaginative Anne Shirley is so easy to relate to, and you grow to love all the characters as you get to know them- from the stern, but loving Marilla... to Mrs. Lyde who is always poking and prying, but has a good heart... to quiet Mathew who saw Anne for who she was from the first- sweet and innocent. If you read no other book, read this one. It will warm you to your toes and make you wish you hadn't read it...just so you could have the pleasure of reading it again!

Summary: Read it at least dozen times
Review: When I was in sixth grade, I was in love with this book. I read the entire Anne series, but the first was my favorite. Anne is such a likable character, and reminded me a little of myself with her many accidents. Matthew, sweet and quiet, reminded me of my grandfather. This book made me cry every time I read it. L.M.Montgomery was a great author, and I reccomend any of her books highly.

Summary: A classic, must-read for all ages and generations.
Review: Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful series that everyone should read. Written in 1908, it is still relevant today because the rich charactierizatioins and descriptions are wonderful. Fall into the book and be prepared to be swept away. Anne is a wonderful, winsome character loved by many all over the world. Read the other editorials written by other readers and you will be amazed at how widespread admiration is for the Anne series.

Summary: Wonderful story
Review: I have always loved the Anne of Green Gables series but if I were you I would buy one of the unillustrated versions. Fernandez did not do justice to the story with her illustrations. Anne of Green Gables is a timeless story even though it is set in a very specific era--a must read for all.

Summary: A memorable classic that touches your heart!
Review: This is one of the best books ever written and the credit goes to spirited Anne (make sure it's spelled with an "e"!) Shirley. It's not often you find such a charming heroine as Anne. ANNE OF GREEN GABLES is the first of a series on this lovable orphan, and it begins with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a respectable brother and sister, living at Green Gables. They are both growing old and need a boy to help out on the farm. But they got a talkative redhead girl instead. Before they can send her back to the orphanage, Anne has managed to win the hearts of Prince Edward Island with her wit and imagination. She seems to affect everyone around her - from busybody Mrs. Rachel Lynde to handsome Gilbert Blythe. And now, Green Gables will never be the same! . . .

It's not often you find such a spirited and lovable heroine as Anne. Captivating and captivatED, Anne is full of enthusiasm and fun, which gets her into all sorts of scrapes. This book is one that you are guaranteed to laugh over, cry over, and never want to put down! It is an ideal novel that you won't want to pass up! (Even if you don't read the rest of the Anne books, read this!)

Summary: My fourth grade teacher had me read this.
Review: My fourth grade teacher had me read this. I was not excited to start it. But by chapter 2 I loved it already. I have re-read it 3 1/2 times and plan on reading it more still. My daughter will read this when she can read. It is that good of a book.

Summary: Long Live Anne Shirley!
Review: I think that the problem many people have with novels featuring young female protagonists is that people seem to think that they are only for young females. It's too bad, ebcause there are so many enjoyable books out there that can reach al types of people. Anne of Green Gables is one of them. Not only is Anne a fun character (is she ever!), but also Montgomery's descriptions of Prince Edward Island are so vivid that you want to be right alongside Anne.

My mother is an elementary school teacher, and reads this book to her class every year, and they all enjoy it. Despite the fact that this book is almost a century old, it has lost none of its charm, none of its fun. One of my favorite scenes deals with Anne and her best friend jumping on top of a bed where, unbeknownst to them, her friend's spinster aunt is already asleep. It's moments like that that make the reader laugh out loud. And the best part is, this book does not become cloying. Anne is no goody two shoes, and we all know that imperfect young children who get into trouble (whether they mean to or not) are always preferable to the "please and thank you" children (whom not many of us can relate to).

I don't think I read a more enjoyable, lighthearted and fresh young persons novel this past year. This is most definitely a story that will not leave you.

Summary: A great book
Review: At the grand old age of 18, I read _Anne of Green Gables_ for the first time, because many people had recommended it to me as "a classic." And I had avoided "classics" like the plague, preferring new and modern books. But it is a wonderful, enchanting tale. Anne Shirley is a quirky, energetic, imaginative(and talkative) heroine, never afraid to say exactly what she thinks. She's the kind of girl I would like to be(or at least I would want a best friend like her), and her relationships with all the characters of Avonlea are utterly charming, and I would recommend this book for all ages.

Summary: A great book to read
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It is about a brother and sister who want a little boy to work. When the brother Matthew goes to the train station to pick up the boy, there is a girl instead. My favorite part is when Matthew goes to pick up Anne. On the way back to the house Anne told Matthew that she liked to be called Ann with an e. In the end Anne gets to stay on Prince Edward Island. I liked the ending because Anne gets to stay.
