Rating: Summary: Personal Strength Overcomes Review: I love this book! I think that the plot is fantastic. The way Laura finds the strength to overcome the tragedy of her brother's death and continue her life is so interesting. I know that that sounds cheesy, but it is the truth. I don't care all that much about geographical accuracy, and it seemed realistic to me. The plot makes up for all other (minor) faults.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: i loved this book, it was one of my favorites by caroline b. cooney. she is currently my favorite author and if you liked this book you will probably like anything she writes.
Rating: Summary: ISLAM=PEACE NOT TERRORISM Review: I am a 14-year-old. When I read this book I was horrified. Evertthing in this book about Islam was wrong. This book protraied Islam as a violent, unjust, women-abusing religion. I know in the West Islam is stereotyped as unjust, violent and women abusing and it is our duty as Muslims to spread the truth about Islam. Islam is not violent what-so-ever. It is absolutly forbidden to kill or even hurt ANY person unless in battle- you can't even harm animals unless you are going to eat it. Women in Islam have equal rights in Islam, just because we have to wear a scarf(head covering) that doesn't mean we are lower then men. In Islam if for example a girls parents want her to marry some guy and she doesn't want to then she doesn't have to. And this thing about women staying in the house after she gets married is complete rubbish. Our prophet Muhammad's(s) wife was a buisness women and she was the one who proposed to him and after they got married she still ran her buisness and her money was still her money.
Rating: Summary: I didn't really enjoy it Review: This book was very discriminating against the Muslim religion and it sounded like Americans are supposed to be the top race in the world, but at the same time they are also naive in other people's eyes, at least in "The Terrorist". I did not like the way the book was written. It was confusing and lacked detail. It was pretty unrealistic when it came to students with mixed races. I myself go to an international school, although not quite as international as LIA (the school Laura and Billy went to), and you have friends no matter what country you're from, and nobody criticizes you the way the kids criticized each other in this book. I didn't much enjoy this at all, and I'm not exactly planning to buy any more of Ms. Cooney's books if all of them are going to be written in the same weird style.
Rating: Summary: This was a good book Review: If you are interested in real life stuff, I highly recomend you reading this book. It's great! This can happen to anyone, once you think about it. This book is about a kid who gets killed by a terrorist's bomb. His sister, Laura wants revenge from the anonymous killer, but where shall she start from? She doesn't know anything! Laura suspects everyone, and she is terrified. What is one of my friends is the killer? And so on. According to other readers, they said it was a one star book. I don't agree with that. Of course, it is their own opinion, but, this author really didn't mean to be racist or anything. Besides, it is fiction, meaning, not true. Not true, meaning, it's completely out of the author's mind! I hope you read this book, at least I enjoyed it. Boys will like this one too--it's not a girly girly one, trust me! Hope you read it!
Rating: Summary: The Terrorist Review: I read this book by Caroline B. Cooney in honor of woman's history month and I thought it was great and very well written. I was very curious what was going to happen after I finished every chapter because there was either a problem or something else happened. The book is interesting because it tells you about other religions that are in England, and also about a great English school(The London International Academy). When I started reading this book, I got pulled into it right away. It was not like some other other books that I've read that didn't have a lead or a good start to it.The Terrorist had a greatlead. This book reminds me of The Hound of the Baskervilles because in both The Terrorist and The Hound of the Baskervilles there is a murder, and the person looking for the murderer collects information and clues, but makes predictions too soon. Since this book is so good, I finished it in four days. I could't put it down. I had to know what will happen next. I've always liked to read mysteries, action, and realistic fiction book, and finally I found the type of book I've always wanted to read. It has a little action, mystery, and realistic fiction. This book is about friendship and hatred. In some cases, it was hard to understand some words in the book, but when the book went on, I got an idea of what some of the words meant. I really enjoyed this book a recomend it for readers 1O and older because there might be some violance and misunderstanding. But other than that, it's fine.
Rating: Summary: Misleading Book Review: The Terrorist is a book that tends to mislead the reader in many ways. It is confusing and full of misconceptions about Muslim people and their culture. I am not a muslim but I feel that the author has in many ways insulted and put the muslims in a bad light. The plot is also basically about murder and terrorism which is not an appropriate reading for middle school kids like me.
Rating: Summary: The Terrorist Review: The Terrorist was great. It kept me interested and I wouldn't put the book down. It was about a girl,Laura, and her family who had just moved to France from Massachusetts. Laura was very fond of her little brother,Billy. At a London subway Billy was handed a package from a stranger who told him that his friend had dropped it, and the package exploded in Billy's hands. Now Laura will suspect anyone and everyone, even her friends for the death of her brother. Will Laura find the terrorist before he kills another victim?
Rating: Summary: knowledge is power Review: In The Name of God, Most Gracious, Most MercifulKnowledge is power. From what I've been reading, it seems that if infact the author is aiming to create hatred and animosity between muslims and the rest of the world, we should fight her back with promoting what Islam, Submission to God alone, really means; and therefor, I would rate this book below zero. The way to do so, is to verify what the author has written regarding Islam and muslims. I recommend reading: Quran, The Final Testament, a beautiful and easily understandable translation by Dr. Rashad Khalifa. I will guarantee you that, if you read the book, God willing you will find out that God condemns aggression; and therefore, terrorism. He discourages poligamy. Arranged marriages are not encouraged, in fact, requirements for marriage are "mutual attraction" and "dowry given to the wife" before consumation. And indeed, beating our wives is not allowed, if one reads the verse refering to it very carefully. You will also find many more surprising facts contrary to the public belief of Islam and Muslims. Peace.
Rating: Summary: Great book that keeps ya on the edge of you're seat Review: I loved this book. It had the most interesting people. I was hooked after I had read just the back. I suggest that any one that loves action and mystery read this book. The ending will have you wondering even after you're done.
