Summary: A Fantastic Books for Teens and Adults!
Review: This is an incredible book! I loved it so much. This woman as an American girl in Hitler's Germany provided me with insight into Hitler's Germany in a way that a German girl probably couldn't have because she would have been called into question. As an outsider inside, she explains how Germans were secretly kept from knowing what was going on in the country and in the conquered lands. It provided me with information on how life was for most Germans and how they could choose to remain ignorant in such a troubled time. I never realized that Germans brought in slave workers from conquored lands and that Germans were punished for spending time with them. I learned so much from this book. Please read it, I couldn't pull away and read it in two days.

Summary: AMAZING account that is hard to come by
Review: This was an extremly good book. I have read numerous books that are from a paritisan's perspective, a survivor, a prisoner, etc. But NEVER have we considered the emotions that went on actually inside Hitler's Germany. This is a must read book for all WWII buffs, and other people besides. Eleanor went through hunger, starvation, and always fearing for her life as well as the lives of her family. We Americans seem to have the forever present thought "this could never happen to us! We're Americans!" But alas, it at least happened to six of our people, and boy do they have an awesome story to tell!

Summary: ELEANOR'S STORY
Review: This was one of those few books that I could not put down once I began reading it. This young girl experienced the horrors of war first hand and miraculously survived some harrowing close calls. Her strained relationship with her demanding and critical parents were tempered by her touching relationship with her older brother. Eleanor even talks about her budding sexuality from an innocent perspective. Even though this book documents a horrific event over 50 years ago it has many contemporary problems that young people face today in different parts of the world. I would definitely recommend this book for middle and high school students. Eleanor experienced a true life adventure few people would want to repeat. Excellent book!
