Rating: Summary: AN ACCURATE PORTRAYL OF A SERIOUS ISSUE Review: AS SOMEONE WHO DEALS ON A DAILY BASIS WITH THE ISSUES DESCRIBED IN THE PAGES OF THIS NOVEL, I CAN SAY FROM EXPIERENCE THAT EVERY FEELING IN THE BOOK IS A REAL ONE. eVERY OTHER BOOK i HAVE READ ON THE SAME TOPICS PREACH RATHER THAN SPEAK. mS. sTOEHR HAS DONE A WONDERFUL JOB OF TELLING IT LIKE IT IS. NO SUGARCOATING NEEDED A FLAT OUT AMAZING READ!
Rating: Summary: Takes Me Back.... Review: I see there are some people who have legitimate claims with "Crosses"....but I remember this novel fanatically. When I was in seventh grade, almost ten years ago, "Sassy" magazine gave this book a great review. My older sister bought it on the basis of that review. I stole it from her on a whim and read it in one night. It was unlike anything I had read, and baby, I had read a lot! It was dark, disturbing, and full of anger and pain. "Crosses" then did something remarkable--it was passed along to almost every girl in my seventh grade class. We read it in hallways, during class in the back of the room, on the weekends, during lunch...any chance we got. It was literally passed from hand to hand, with a whispered "This is amazing!". It was a cult novel here in our small town. I graduated from high school five years later, with almost the same small class of 112. At our Senior Banquet, we all still remembered "Crosses". Sure, now I see that "Crosses" is an overdramatic and melodramatic look at life....it tries too hard to be dark and disturbing. But it worked then, I can promise you that. It's just what you need at 12, it has all the passion and darkness you're looking for at that age. And here's a promise, we'll be talking about it still, at my ten year class renunion.
Rating: Summary: The Best bad situation book ever! Review: Crosses is the best book with the worst situation I loved this book I mean it helps show what a lot of kids & teens go through and I think that if you have a problem like that. You should really deal with it in a differnet way but you can also turn to that book to make sure that your life doesn't go in that direction.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fantastic! Review: Very realistic book of teenage insecurity, rebellion, and the need to stand out. Takes true points of interest in Babylon, Lindenhurst, and the surrounding areas in suburbian New York. Outlines how teens Nancy and Katie survive the boredom by taking drugs, drinking, self-mutilating, having sex with their boyfriends, shoplifting, dressing punk, and listening to the likes of David Bowie. It doesn't promote bad behavior, it just reflects what teenagers feel they must do in order to feel happy in low times, and how they feel in order to stand out.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: This book was outstanding! It showed the real reasons kids are n drugs. THey don't want the goody goody name. THey want ot be known as wild and popular and daring to try anything. THis story captures that and shows kids what drugs and hurting yourself really does. How it effects your family and friends and how it ruins your name. No one wants you around and you are known as the punk kid who every parent wants their kids to stay away from. People stop believing in you and think of how messed up your life is going to be instead of what you are going to accomplish.
Rating: Summary: I think that this was an excellent book, very real. Review: I read this book about a year ago and i still think about things in the book that happened. It was a very chilling book because it is so real. I felt like i related to Nancy in some ways because when you're reading it you get so into the story, you forget it's only a book. I thought it was a very good book and I would definitely reccommend it to others.
Rating: Summary: above par book Review: I thought the book crosses was a good way to see the problems teenagers have to face wheather it is a drug problem, sexual problems or even self inflicting injuries as a problem for alot of teenagers.
Rating: Summary: Really really easy to relate to. Review: i've read this book about a million times in the past 3 years. but right now it's really easy to relate to. except the drugs and reckless behavior towards family and friends and school. but the main issue sticks with you. it finally feels like someone understands you. but it's not a game. the characthers sometimes say it's fun. it is not fun. and i don't particularly love the end and how Nancy's atitude magically changes. that is not reality.
Rating: Summary: It was so great! Review: I'm 15 and I LOVED this book. I wanted the characters to be real so I could be thier friends. It was sooo real, because Nancy was just like me.... this was the coolest book, and I'm scared to read any other books because I know they wouldn't even come close as good as this one. But another good book is smack by melvin burgees, they're about the same greatness.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!! Review: I USED TO HATE READING, THEN I GOT BORED AND STARTED, AND OUT OF THE 21 BOOKS I HAVE READ, CROSSES IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!! THE STORY IS SO GOOD THAT I READ IT FROM COVER TO COVER NON-STOP. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR TEENS.
