Rating: Summary: A wonderful and exciting journey Review: This is one of the finest literary works for children that I have ever read. I first encountered this novel in a Children's Literature course in college. It was so captivating that I read it in one sitting. I've since read it numerous times and teach it in my 5th grade class. Charlotte is a strong and brave character, and her tale of treachery on the high seas will win over even the toughest to please book critic. I especially recommend this book to girls who are sick and tired of reading about boys having all the fun and adventures in literature.
Rating: Summary: A true adventure story with a female lead character Review: I was dissapointed that there was no little touch of romance that I look forward to in so many books, but as good as any other male lead fiction.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, action filled Review: This book was very adventurous!!!! It was hard not to go on and read what was going to happen in the next chapter! I think everyone should read the book The True Confessions Of Charlotte Doyle!!!!
Rating: Summary: Charlotte go's on a ship and has many adventures. Review: It is a great story. I think Avi chould write a sequel to this story. Anyone should try to read it. It has so much excitement I could not put the book down.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I read this book for a book report. I couldn't put it down, and read it in two days. It was soooooo good! It was suspenseful and full of suprising excitment. I recomend this book to anyone who is ready for a real page-turner!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book down! Review: First of all, the launguage in this book is a masterpiece. Avi has managed to do the almost impossible task of making early nineteenth century dialog realistic, and yet accessable to readers of all ages. Another brilliant achievement is the character development of Charlotte Doyle. As the book starts out, she embraces the customs and beliefs of her "station", as proscribed in the year 1832. Slowly we see how events on board the Seahalk shake the innocent "Miss Doyle" into reality. And as her world begins expand, Charlotte discovers that there is a lot more to her than pettycoats and white gloves! She also begins to understand that nothing is black and white, as she once thought. "Good" and "bad" are often as complex as individual people. This book may be about a perilous two month journey at sea, but is is also about the life-long (often perilous) journey of following one's heart and discovering one's true potential. I loved this book, every page! I think it had one of the most satisfying endings a book could offer. SIX STARS FOR AVI"S BEST BOOK YET!!!
Rating: Summary: A very thrilling and exciting story. Review: This book you won't want to put down! Every chapter has more excitment and more thrills. When you read it, you see pictures in your mind. There is lots of colorful language. This is a book you don't want to read before bed because it is so fascinating you can't put it down!
Rating: Summary: One of my most favorite books!!!!! Review: I have read this book so many times I've lost count! And every time I read it again, it leaves me hanging on the edge of my seat, wishing it would never end!Definately a MUST for someone who likes action, adventure, romance, and many twists and turns. Avi's best book yet!
Rating: Summary: This book was a fun book for all ages. Review: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi was a wonderful book. I liked the book because it showed what it would have been like to be on the sea at that point in time, and the danger yet thrilling voyages that ships took. The book did have it's dull times like in the begining before Charlotte got on the Seahawk;but overall it was a very exciting book. The most interesting but exciting parts were first when Charlotte sees a head in the brig, or the ships jail while she is getting s dress from her trunk. The second thrilling part was in a storm Charlotte thought that a ghost that looked like Zachariah saved her from going overvboard and ding. The part of the book that I liked best was when Charlotte wanted to become a member of the crew. Charlotte had to "Climb as high as the Royal Yard and Make it down whole," to become a member of the crew. The Royal Yard was the higher and larger of the two sails. It was interesting to see that the hardest part for her was the first and the lowest section of the sail. Being a young woman at only 13 years of age, Charlotte took great risks but I think that the end of the book will shock you as it did me.
Rating: Summary: I love this story!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I love this story! The book kept my intrest at all times and it was so descriptive that the storry played in my dreams! I don't think that there are any weaknesses in thes story. The author{Avi} did an excellent job of telling this story. I don't believe that there is anything the author could have done better because it is jam-packed with excitment. It is also very secretive. An example is when the crew pretends to throw the dead body of Zachariah{the black slave} overboard in a sack to trick the evil captain, but he is still living in the storage room! The story was very interesting throughout, complete with two murders, the first a crew member was rightfully accused{and hanged}, and the second the captain commited himself, but blamed it on Charlotte! The author did an excellent job of putting a picture of exactly what's happening in the reader's mind. I could imagine what the whole ship and all the rooms looked like, especially the captain's quarters because it describes everything down to the tiniest detail, right down to the pictures on the walls. I can't think of anything I would have done differently or changed in the story because it was described so well and it was bursting with excitment. I would recommend this story to girls but not to boys because the whole story is written from aa girl's point of view and I don't think boys would understand what everything means. On a scale of one to ten I would definitely give this book a ten. Now you know what I think, so go and read The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and I guarantee that you'll agree with me.
