Rating: Summary: A truly beautiful book Review: I picked up this gem about 12 years ago from my junior library and devoured it in a single weekend. I have revisited several times since. Please don't let that teen cover fool you- this is a beautiful love story for all agesIt is set in 1940s Wisconsin so parts are endearingly dated- getting cokes at the drug store, the family is very traditional. As such it is a tale of innocense. Daly truly captured the sense of wonder that comes with first love. He wonderful descriptions are achingly beautiful. I am so glad that this is still in print and cannot say enough good things about Angie and Jack's first love!
Rating: Summary: One of the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book was amazing! It was so real that i didn't put the book down until i finished it. I'm into mysteries so when i picked up the book i almost immediantly put it back, but i checked it out and read it. There was nothing to do at the end but cry. A magnificent book. i recomend this book to anyone over the age of 12.
Rating: Summary: I read this book WAY back when Review: I will never forget it. Back in the seventies when I read it, it was my most favorite book of all time. It was one of the first books I completed and I have to say it spurred me on to become a romance writer. Though I write multi-cultural romance with a strong leaning towards African American themes, Seventeenth Summer was written color-blind. I could relate to the teenage feelings back then... they were what we ALL went through one or twice in our lives.
Rating: Summary: 100% Reality Review: When I first started reading this book, I was like what the heck, hardly anything exciting happens but as I proceeded, I realized this book relates much better to teen love than others. I would recommend it anyone who likes a sweet, innocent romace story.
Rating: Summary: A CLASSIC STORY FAR AHEAD OF ITS TIME! Review: Believe it or not this is not a contemporory love story. I first read this book in 1961 when I was fourteen years old. Of all, the books read during my teen-aged years, this one was probably the one that impressed me more than any other and has stayed buried somewhere in the heart of my soul all these years. Never in a million years did I ever believe it would still be read by teenagers today - times and lifestyles have changed so dramatically over the years; however, the fundamentals of love do not. After all, no matter what generation you live in, love is love, isn't it? The reader will share the story of first love, with the characters Angie and Jack. Suddenly, there is a new girl in the picture. Although time changes many elements of our lives, the same feelings of love and hurt are age-old feelings that never change no matter how many generations may pass. This bittersweet tale will leave you with a heavy heart and a tear in your eye. The characters may be fictional, but in reality, the story is one teen-aged girls, particularly, will understand. For those long past the days of first love, the book will bring to light many memories of youth and passion in a time long ago. As you will discover through the paages of this book, there is nothing quite so unique, magical and full of wonder as the feelings of first love, no matter how the story ends. I encourage every young person (and the young at heart) to read "Seventeenth Summer"; it is worthy of a five star rating and more.
Rating: Summary: A well-written story about first love and growing up Review: One of my favorite books! When I first picked up _Seventeenth Summer_, I was a little turned off by some of the old-fashioned language, and wondered how I could relate to a book written in 1942. But _Seventeenth Summer_ describes the emotions of first love so vividly that it doesn't feel old-fashioned at all. Instead, you will find yourself feeling like Maureen Daly wrote your own life story- from that wonderfully free but kind of scared way you feel when you've just graduated from high school, to how you feel when you first go out with a guy you really click with, to the way your view of your family changes as you find yourself growing up (this probably comes from the fact that the author was only 19 when she started writing the book, and modeled the characters and situations on her own life). Don't be put off by the dippy cover photo, or the year that it was written- this is one of the best books you will ever read about being seventeen.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: Seventeenth summer was a book I found at the library no one had told me about it but when i saw the cover i couldnt resist. It didnt even take 24 hours to read i couldnt put the book down. Jack and Angie may be made up but they are so real to me and anyone who will read this book. I cryed in the end and I laughed throughout it! I really recomend it! I wish it had a sequel i miss the characters!
Rating: Summary: Seventeeth Summer Review: Seventeenth Summer is a love story of a teenage girl and her summer with her romeo boyfriend. It tells how they meet and how they both go through heartbreak in a matter of a summer. This book is organizied into months like June, July, & August instead of Chapters. This book is pretty good but I found myself getting bored throughout various parts.
Rating: Summary: The best love story of all time. Review: Seventeenth Summer was soooo good! I like this book because it talked about what true love really is. There wasn't one nasty part in the book. There love for each other was just so pure. It was so hard to put the book down once I started reading it. All I can say is you need to go buy it.
Rating: Summary: A Time of Innocence Review: I have read this book many times and I still love it. Unlike novels with sex and more sex, this is a wonderfully innocent love story. I also enjoyed reading the descriptions of small town life and detailed descriptions of the birds, plants, weather, storms, and lake.
