Rating: Summary: Nothing but a Glorified Harlequin Romance Review: This, as all of Sparks' books, are just romantic, predictable, sappy drivel. By page 5, most readers know exactly where this is going. There's much better stuff out there to be reading than this, folks.
Rating: Summary: Sweet, Heartwarming, and Wonderful Review: I guarantee... you will laugh. And I guarantee... you will cry. This was the promise of the author in the last sentence of the prologue. Thus, you already had an idea of how the book was going to end. By chapter 5, I had already pretty much figured out the book. But, as mildly predictable as it may be, it's not the end and whether you know it or not that matters, but how sweet the journey is to get there... and this is such a sweet story. In the beginning, I laughed my tail off, and thought this was a wonderful book. At the end, I cried... and still thought this was a wonderful book. All the predictions were true, and rarely do I come across a book that can be so touching as this one has touched me. Nicholas Sparks is my favorite author and I have read all his books. In my opinion, this one is his best. I can only hope that one day I meet my Jamie Sullivan. But one can never know... about God's plan :)
Rating: Summary: Sweet but predictable Review: While I do love Nicholas Sparks writing, and yes even I was moved to tears (not easy to do) in this sweet story; I found A Walk to Remember predictable. If you a looking for a fast read and a cathartic cry this is the book for you. I found the protaganist to be placed on a pedestal so high that I could not relate even to the feelings the narrator has for her. Yes I cried, yes it was a quick read. I just expected more.
Rating: Summary: From Maui No Ka Oi, Hawaii Review: A Walk to Remember was highly recommended by a great friend during the holiday season and it turned out to be the best way to capture the true essence of the holiday spirit for me. I couldn't put this book down and thoroughly enjoyed reading it from start to finish. Nicholas Spark's has a great sense of writing style; he writes from his soul and definitely writes from his heart. Great pick for 2000!
Rating: Summary: This book was great! Review: This was a really good book. It is such a great love story. It also makes you realize life doesn't always work out the way you want it, but you can still make the best of it. I recommend it for everyone.
Rating: Summary: A Walk to Remember Review: As a reader of mostly non-fiction, I found this book when my wife brought it home. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. Jamie is the girl that wants to live her life the way that God wants us to, and Landon ends up living the life we all wish we had. This book haunted me for days. I just could not stop thinking about it. Congratulations Nicholas Sparks on another winner.
Rating: Summary: Love and Death Review: A WALK TO REMEMBER is one of my favorite books. it tells a story of love and death, and that even though someone is about to die the love between the two people can still live. It tells a story about a helping person that soon becomes helpless to everything, life espeicially.
Rating: Summary: Predictable ... But not that bad Review: OK ... I am a man and not the biggest fan of romantic books. I've read the Notebook and did not mind it too much. Over the holidays I was visiting relatives and they were all reading this book. One evening, I picked it up. Now, from page 4, I knew what was going to happen with the relationship, but that was okay. Mr. Sparks is a master of creating situations where love is put to the absolute test. The true testament of this book is that I find myself thinking back to certain scenes from time to time (I won't ruin any for those who have not read the book). I don't think Mr. Sparks will ever win awards for his writing, but he knows how to punch you in the gut deep enough for the hurt to stay around long after the book is closed.
Rating: Summary: The Most Romantic Book I've Ever Read!! Review: My sister got me this book for my birthday and I read it in less than 5 hours. It was by far the most touching book that I have ever read. It warms your heart by bringing you back to your high school years and your first love. I wish I could give this book 6 stars. The story twists and turns as you get to know the characters. You find yourself feeling like you are there with the characters. This book could move anyone with it's romantic theme and its wonderful drama. I think most people can relate to the characters which makes this an A+ book. Read it, that's all I can say.
Rating: Summary: A book to remember Review: This book was a gift to me on my 16th birthday. Finally I got around to reading it and finished it in a short time. It is the traditional love story of a bad boy redeemed by the girl he least likely expects to fall in love with. (since the plot is predictable, I'm not giving much away) Here the boy is Landon Carter, son of North Carolina's governor, and the girl is Jamie Sullivan, daughter of a Baptist minister. Although they've known each other all their lives and been in the same classes at school, they are very different from each other. Landon is mischievous and spends time eating boiled peanuts in the local graveyard with his friends. He also finds pleasure in making fun of Jamie's father, among other people. Meanwhile, Jamie is well-known for contributing money and time to orphanages and saving wounded animals. Other teenagers shun her, believing that she's a goody-two shoes. Landon thinks the same way until he gets to know her better. Gradually he realizes that he disliked her before because her own virtuousness made him feel guilty. Influenced by her example, he cleans up his act. He learns that what they have in common is strong enough to draw them together in romantic love. But their near-perfect happiness is too wonderful to last. Jamie is harboring a devastating secret. What is it? And how will it affect their relationship? Here is a three-word description of the story: sappy, but sweet. Who could fail to be moved by Jamie and Landon's romance? Beaufort, North Carolina in the 1950's provides a nostalgic backdrop for the tale. My favorite scene was when their drama class performed the Christmas play. However, there were some details that I didn't like about the story. Although Landon changed, he still seemed like a shallow youth. And his 57-year-old man voice was not greatly different from his 17-year-old boy voice. The book read more like young adult fiction than an adult novel. But I will give the author credit for creating a poignant, Christian love story. Unlike most books out on the market today, it contained no immorality and very little coarse language. And Jamie and Landon are truly in love, not just lusting after each other like couples in many novels. The story fulfills its purpose: that is, to arouse our emotions and entertain us. Overall, don't expect to discover earth-shattering revelations in this book. But if you are a hopeless romantic and don't mind reading a book for pure pleasure every once in a while, "A Walk to Remember" might just be a book you'd enjoy.
