Rating: Summary: This book had no real apeel to me, or to anyone my age. Review: I didn't like this book. What 13 year old girl would enjoy it? This book is for boys, and i was forced to read it for english, why do teachers pick books like this that have a masculine outline to them? i didn't even want to finish the book. If i was a boy and i was ten, then maybe i would have liked the book.
Rating: Summary: Love this book! Review: I've been trying to find this book for years - I remember it from about 50 readings as a kid. I found it exciting, moving and real, and it opened up new interests in past lives, history and time travel. The history is well researched and well drawn, and the characters highlight how universal childhood is. Brilliant.
Rating: Summary: I like it Review: Jeremy Visick is a book I read in school and i liked it. The ending was so sad and the book was overall good. So read it!

Rating: Summary: Absolutely Terrific Historical Fiction Review: Maybe historical fiction isn't everyone's cup of tea. But I've been a Buyer at one of the largest children's books in the country, and I can tell you without a doubt that hand-selling this book to kids & parents has been a real pleasure - I've had many kids come back & tell me that they want another just like it! It is a great read-aloud, full of excitement and adventure (though it isn't an easy, shallow book - it's not just a page-turner, it requires some reflection) and it also makes you cry. There are great lessons here (though it isn't harsh & didactic) about the hard lives of Welsh miners, so that children can begin to think about their own privileges, or about their own hardships. Gradually, the veil of difference between people of different experiences begins to be lifted. And isn't that what great literature does? Beautifuly told, this is a real unsung treasure, and it should have won some major awards when it came out. You won't be sorry if you buy it - I especially recommend it to teachers. Read it aloud to your kids!

Rating: Summary: Slow start, Rushed End Review: This is probably the worst book I have ever read in my whole life. Why? Here are some reasons why you should NOT buy this book :1. The first 13 chapters are all boring(A very long and SLOW start)...there is very little twists in the plot in that section 2. This book isn't very appealing to girls(As I was assigned this in English, and the girls in my class hated it, so did my teacher(also female). 3. The end is very fast-paced, but not in a good way. IT IS VERY RUSHED. Does that make sense, to have a slow and LONG beginning, and a fast and very short end? I don't think so. However there are some other sides to this, here is what is good: 1. It gives some pretty interesting info on coal-mining and child-labour in The Industrial Revolution(If you take the time to care, probably not) 2. It makes you think....but you have to find out. Basically, if you are a historical nut, with a lot of free-time(must be a lot of free-time if you are reading this) get this book. However if you have a busy life, and want something interesting and pleasing, go out and buy IT by stephen king. Danny Ferraro, Age 13
