Summary: This is one off the most wonderful books I've ever read!
Review: I first time I read this book was when I was twelve, now I'm thirteen and have read this book five times. It has a wonderful plot and shows old time londen like it was. The slums, crimes and poverty. The charicters are relalistic and make you feel like you know them, for instans the trecherus Bill Sikes the Artfull Doger the craftey Fagin and gentil Oliver Twist as well as many others. If you havent read oliver twist I asure once you have read it it will soon be on your favorite book shelf!

Review: This a great story about an orphan who falls in with a bad crowd and is then taken in by a rich family. Every page is a page turner. You cannot put this book down. This is a truly classic book. Charles Dickens was a great writer.

Review: Oliver Twist is more than just a great literary classic; it is also a gripping commentary on the state of social welfare and the problem of crime in Victorian England. Through Oliver's experiences, the reader gets a first-hand look at the miserable existence of children in the "charity houses" and the desperate lives of criminals such as Fagin and the Artful Dodger. This novel is a fine example of the genius of Charles Dickens: he could cause his contemporaries to think about the world they lived in, while at the same time telling them an intriguing story that they could not wait to finish. His stories are just as valuable today for the same reasons.

Review: The story of Oliver Twist has been tested through generations of criticisms and countless tellings; and it has survived, a timeless masterpiece crafted by the wily Charles Dickens. This edition, published by Oxford is well-crafted and contains images which supplement the text well, although it is that text which the reader should focus on. This story follows a young orphan by the name of Oliver Twist through his trials in a tumultuous time. Dickens' use of verbal irony, foreshadowing, and the literary devices which have made him the superstar that he is today among the literary world are readily apparent in this poignant story. The nice (subtle) details are interwoven in a plot and storyline which cleanly wraps itself up in the end of the story, in true Victorian Fashion. The only trouble one might find in reading this book is Dickens' use of language; he uses many old English expressions and terms, but if one wades through them, one will surely find a worthwhile book for any rainy day.

Review: The Oliver story is no doubt familiar to you. From films, musicals or abridged versions. Why read the book?
Two reasons: Dickens humor and his power of description. His humor is apparent in quotes like: "if the law holds a man responsible for his wifes actions, the law is an ass". His description of 19th century Londen and of many unforgettable colourfull characters make this book still a joy to read.

Summary: Dickens is difficult to understand at first.
Review: "Oliver Twist" was my introduction to Charles Dickens. His style of writing is difficult at first and I found myself looking up words in the dictionary in the first half of the book. He uses some words in a totally different ways; however I was still able to follow the story. This book was probably as realistic as it could get in the 19th century but since I am living in the 20th century the characters seem phony. They speak in flowery phrases. Very Victorian English,by Jove! "Pray, dear, do come and release the trouble that ails you so." Some characters, like the thieves, speak to intelligently. Even Oliver seems linguistly gifted for an undereducated,malnourished, physically and mentally abused orphan; and the ugly sexual elements are missing (not that I want it in there though.) I like happy endings and this book had one.Loose ends were tied and the antagonists got their just reward. A shiny, happy 19th century story. I am glad I read it. Its nice to read different sytles of writing. Now I can say " Yeah, I've read Dickens."
