Rating: Summary: Atomic Bomb Testing in Paradise Review: Sorry is a fourteen-year-old boy in the 1940's who lives on the small island of Bikini. When the island found out about the great atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan killing thousands they were dumbfounded. Many weeks later they found out that Bikini had been selected for Operation Crossroads as the new test site for atomic bomb tests. They American's offered the islanders a better island, food, shelter , and would be able to return in a several years. Abram, Sorry's physically and mentally though uncle, knew the destructiveness of the bomb and he didn't want to leave, but the other naive islanders voted to help the American's and move. Before Uncle Abram died, he told Sorry that from their new island he was going to sail back and try and stop the bomb by getting in its way. If you want to find out what happens at the end you'll just have to read it but I wouldn't recommend. While The Bomb had a good idea for a story it was not written well so I would not recommend it at all. The book just talked about everyday life for almost the whole first half with nothing exciting happening. The end was also not exciting and didn't have a clear message. There was no climax, just a continual story that went nowhere.
Rating: Summary: The Bomb Review: Sorry Rinamu a six teen year old kid in Bikini Atoll. Japaneese soldiers on the island getting food from the people on it. A good thing happens and the Americans save them from the (Japanese). The Americans wanted to use the island to test a new weapon called the atom bomb. Sorrys people agreed to let the Americans use the weapon on the island as long as they would help the people move somewhere else. Sorry did not want to let them do it but they agreed to it. Sorry was going to try and stop it but he was unsuccessful. Eventually more than twenty atomic and hydrogen weapons tests were mad e before the Bikinians got the island back.
Rating: Summary: Exciting!! Review: Sorry Rinamu likes where he lives and does not want to leave. He lives on a Western Pacific island . He was born there and he loves it there. When World War II starts everything changes. The Japanese build a weather station on the island and disrupts life. This went on until the Americans invaded and killed the three men inside their barracks. When the Americans take control of the island, they decide to use the tropical island and it's lagoon for an Atom Bomb testing area. His uncle tries to stop them, but dies before he could. Now he wants to stop them. Here are a few examples. He tried to reason with an American general but could not succeed. Then he tries to make them find another island outside of the lagoon, but that didn't work either. When his whole villige was taken to another island he tried despretly to get off it and go back but they still didn't listen. When all options ran out, he thought of this one. He was going to paint a canoe red (like the target ship) He would think that when the bomber would see him they would cancel the test. So when he told the villige he was going only two people waned to go with him. When he got their they didn't see them and the bomb went off. It didn't say in the book what happened after that but it does say " The able bomb has spent it energy and has spewed its poison. It killing has only begun" I think Sorry was brave and he would do any thing to get his home back. I think he is a very determined person and it shows in this book.
Rating: Summary: Fighting for your home Review: Sorry Rinamu was born and raised on the Bikini Atoll. When he was 16, the United States came to Bikini and asked the people to leave so that they could do nuclear testing on the island, promising that they would be able to return at least 2 years later. No one wants to leave, but they trust the Americans and go along with their plan. Sorry knows that he has to stand up to the Americans to save his homeland- even if he has to stand alone. Sorry and his uncle, Abram, believe that they can stop the U.S. from dropping the atom bomb on their homeland. Abram has a plan, but is unable to help Sorry go through with it. After a lot of thought, Sorry decides to carry out his uncle's plan because he knew he had to stand up for what was right. I did not like this book, mostly because of the ending. I also had a hard time remembering the meaning of the words that were in the Bikinian language. In my opinion, the U.S. was not justified in using the Bikini Atoll as a test site for nuclear weapons. They could have chosen a different island, one that wasn't already inhabited.
Rating: Summary: The Bomb is the bomb! Review: Sorry, his family, his friends, and all the people he knows live on the island of Bikini. They moved away because the U. S. was using their island as a test bombing sight. They move back to Bikini because they want to stop the bombing and save their island. When Sorry turns 14 and announces his manhood, he goes away on a traditional manhood trip to a special island. He chose the island of Nantil. He learns a lot about finding tools, looking for wild animals, and most important he has to think of a plan to stop the bombing. I think that the author could have done a better job telling about the bombing. I highly recommend this Theodore Taylor book to any young and old readers because it is a teaches you a lot about bombing, and how islanders lived in the pacific ocean during world war two. I liked how the author made this book a very useful reference and teaching device. I hope and think that anyone that reads this book will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: You'll keep thinking, "Did we REALLY do this?" Review: The beauty of this book is the author's playing fiction and reality off of each other. If it weren't for the little snippets of fact about dropping still the world's most powerful bomb, you'd be hardpressed to believe that a story like this could have ever happened. An important story, a story we must never forget and a story well told by a man who writes from the pangs of having participated in the stupidity
Rating: Summary: The Bomb Review: The Bomb is a good book to read. Me, myself i did not enjoy the book because I don't like the war, holocaust, true story style of reading. This book is on the making of the atomic bomb and the test sight were the main charector Sorry Rinamu lives on a small island known as Bikini. This story explanes how the island of Bikini had to turn off all the lights so that the small island was not bombed at night. I did not like the main charestors name Sorry. The reason that I did not like his name because it kind of made a depressing setting throughout the story.
Rating: Summary: The Atom Bomb Review: The bomb is about a sixteen year old boy whos name is Sorry. Sorry has lived his whole life in the bikini atoll. All of the sudden the united states government as a test site for the atomic bomb. The islanders are told that they must leave in interest of world peace but can return when the island is safe again. Sorry does not believe the us army. He is sure that the radioactive fallout will poison the warm blue waters and the beautiful white skies. Sorry knows he has no choice but to stop the atom bomb. You will have to read the book to find out what happens.
Rating: Summary: An exciting and sad book. Review: The Bomb mostly takes place on the Bikini Atoll during the 1940's. It is about the government wanting to use Sorry's homeland as a nuclear test site. The characters are Sorry, his granfather, and his uncle. Many events occured in the book. One important event was that the government wanted to use the Bikini Aoll as a test site. Because of this another important event occured. This event was Abraham,Sorry's uncle, wanted to save the Bikini Atoll.
Rating: Summary: Liars! Review: The Bomb was a fabulous heart-wrenching novel. Sorry R. of Bikini Atoll and the rest of the Bikini Islanders were moved from Bikini by the US Navy.
