Summary: Catherine called Birdy
Review: I read a book called Catherine called Birdy. it was a historical novel. I thought the book was quite boring because it wasn't very easy to get into. Basically it was about a girl called Catherine who was nicknamed Birdy. It was an old fashioned book because Birdy's father was selling her to all these suitors and she didn't like or know any of them. There wasn't a very good storyline to the story and it didn't make me feel as if I couldn't put the book down. If there are any sequels I don't particularly want to read them.

Summary: Cat called little bird
Review: Whilst i was in year 8 at Langly Park School for Girls i read a most fasinating book. It was set in the Middle Ages and the appealing tittle was 'Catherine called Birdy'by Karen Cushman. I found it increadibly well thought out, the book was a diary supposedly written by Catherineabout her life. Each chapter reprisented a monthand all in all the book told us a whole year about Catherines exciting life as a growing woman. I found Cat's events engaging and well detailed. The story's of how she managed to keep away all the suitors set up by her father were very different but incredibly funny. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and would defintly suggest it to read.

Summary: Cathrine Called a Great Book
Review: This book review is about the book Cathrine Called Birdy. The title is derived from the name of the main character, Cathrine, who's nickname is "Birdy" or "Little bird" because of her love of birds.

Cathrine Called Birdy is a great book, even though it wasn't quite what I had expected it to be like, even though I only had a scarce expectation. It was very different from what I expected in that it combined action with it's documentary-style format. I personally thought that this combination was ingenius and creative. It kept me well entertained throughout the duration of the book, as I'm sure it would with other readers too. I especially liked the way it "tackled" storytelling from a different angle, allowing us to see Medieval times not only through the eyes, but also the soul of another person as you read her deepest feelings confided to her diary, and no one else.

The characters in the book are very vivid and play a large roll in "spicing up" the book with comedy, sorrow, happyness, and disgust. Cathrine Called Birdy is a great book and I highly reccomend it to readers of all sorts, and those who are interested in Medieval times or "Dear America" books.

Summary: Catherine Called Birdy
Review: I think Cushman did a good job of telling Catherines story through her diary. With the misspellings spread here and there throughout the book it really seemed like the writer of the journals was just learning to write(as Catherine was). It had a good story. In my opinion the only problem with Catherine, Called Birdy was that the story took too long to get to the main struggle. The main problem didn't arise until 5 months/chapters in. Other than the problem stated above the book was very good. I would recomend this to almost everyone.

Summary: Catherine, called Birdy, by Karen Cushman
Review: This book "Catherine called Birdy" was great book. It had lots of characters, and it was funny how she had to put up with those men. You see, Chatherine is a girl who lives with her mother and father, and she's supposed to get married to a man. So the father tries to set her up with some men, but to Catherine thinks they are hideous. As you keep reading throughout the book,to me, the book gets a little bit funnier every chapter. I really liked this book alot, even though I'm a thiller book fan this book go my attention. Overall I would have to give this book four star, some part were a little boring in some chapters. The book was very entertaining, funny and sometimes boring

Summary: Very well done
Review: I enjoyed this book very much, as much for the historical clarity and accuracy as for the wonderful story. Cushman cleverly "plants the seed" for her tale with Birdy's concise, shrewish first entries in her journal, setting her character up as very determined and somewhat sharp and irritated. Although these are some of Birdy's foremost "outward" traits, it would be wrong to only view her as such. Cushman quickly provides Birdy's soft and humerous side, together with some funny witticisms about her family and surroundings. Cushman is very adept at presenting stories set in other times to people of this day and age with as little confusion as possible, as is evident in her other novels, THE MIDWIFE'S APPRENTICE and THE BALLAD OF LUCY WHIPPLE, set in the Medieval times and during the American gold rush, respectively. This is a novel that I would recommend to a wide range of people--because of the modernized language, young and historical un-informed readers can understand the setting, and because of the detail and quiet depth of the story, older readers will surely enjoy it.

Summary: Some things never change. Teenagers is one of them...
Review: Actually, I'm not 1, I'm 13, but i didn't feel like signing up just to write a review, and I thought that this book was hilarious. The things that she says about her father are exactally the things that I think about my dad. All I have to say is that there's no excuse for you to not like this book, especially if you love a good laugh.

Summary: Inside of the Cunning Catherine Called Birdy
Review: Karen Cushman did an incredible job when she wrote Catherine Called Birdy, because the book is one in which you see a different time through a young woman's eyes. Catherine, the main character, is a girl that is smarter, and more cunning, and gets herself into more trouble than most guys. She can even read and write! The book is set in the Middle Ages, in the countryside. Catherine finds her life fine apart from the fact that her father is trying to marry her off as though she's a piece of meat. She has a few devious plans for keeping the suitors away, but they can't work forever. Or can they? One impressive twist through out the story is something to do with romance, or actually no romance. Catherine Called Birdy isn't one of those mushy and compassionate books. Catherine is not exactly the type of girl that enjoys wearing frilly dresses, and the only way she thinks of boys is as friends. I'm sure that if Catherine were alive today she would rather play football, compared to jump rope. Catherine Called Birdy has some memorable characters. Her mother is a timid lady, and her father is a gruff man who is sort of slow, but he does have a lot of pride. There is also a sensitive side to her father, but to find out about that you'll have to read the book. One funny thing in the book is how Catherine and her best friend Perkins manage to execute so many of their tricks to out smart her father. Another funny thing is some of the tricks that Catherine pulled off to drive away the men who were trying to court her. One reason that I would not have read this book, if it had not been assigned, is that it is in diary form. Most diaries are incredibly stop and go, and they make you feel not at all connected with the book and its characters. Catherine Called Birdy is different. It has a real flow to it, and you feel like you are Catherine. You should read this book because it has a plot that is full of little adventures, and you will fall in love with the characters. Can you imagine being a tomboy in the Middle Ages with men coming to buy you to marry you? Even if you can't, you will love this book. This is one book, one girl and a lot of attitude! Trust me, read Catherine Called Birdy!

Summary: The medieval tale oh Catherine Called Birdy
Review: Personally I think that Karen Cushman did a fantastic job on CCB. When I first read it, it was the school year of 5th grade. This made it especially good because my English was a guy and this was the only book we read that had to do with girls. This book is in diary form, which makes it really cool to read because a lot of people haven't read this type of book. The actual story is about a young adolescent girl living in the Middle Ages. This character is very unique and is easy to grow onto, because she seems like a real down to earth girl. Not someone who has no problems. She has troubles with not being able to do things that boys can do, that is the one thing she totally envies about the male sex. Also she has big problems with her father, her father is a rich mean person who doesn't care who or when she is married off to as long as that man is filthy rich, and the men he has in mind aren't exactly what you would call "Her cup of tea." This book was remarkable! But unfortunately, no book is perfect, which means this book has a few minor flaws. The only thing someone could notice that would push someone away from reading it is that it seems she only writes in her diary when exciting things happen, (not very real!) this not a good enough excuse to not read it because who wants read a book about a boring life! (NOT ME.)

Summary: A Non Deserving Newberry
Review: Catherine Called Birdy, by Karen Cushman is a book that does not deserve its Newberry. The story has a terrible plot, involving a girl named Catherine who has a drunken father who is looking for a husband for her. She has some close calls and a big one with suitors, but is repetitive and sulky about her life. The entire story is written in diary form about her life, and it seems like something is going to happen, but nothing really does. Catherine really does not enjoy her life. She is mad that suitors are coming and just wants to be free. She sometimes drives you to insanity with her complaining. This book does not deserve its popularity, and it is not written in a suitable way. It is written with only one point of view Catherine's so if your favorite character is not Catherine you are IN DEEP DO DO. You just never get someone else's opinion. The book only takes sides with the main character in arguments so it leaves you hanging. What does her father think? To bad, you will never know.

There is one positive about this book. The setting takes place in Briton in the Middle Ages on a farm. It was an exciting place, but in this book nothing happens. The topic of the book stays the same the whole time, so you only have to read to page 60 to know what happens, because in children's' books they all turn out the same. Go ahead and read the book if you feel like it, but remember if you don't like it I said dont read it.
