Summary: 'Birdy' Chirps a Tale of her Trials and Tribulations
Review: Catherine Called Birdy is a delightful and humerous tale combining subjects like coming of age, medevil times the biography of a young girl in the thirteenth century. Birdy is a fourteen-year old girl living in the 1200's who struggles with problems just like contemporary girls of her age struggle with today, proving that some things just don't change, even after eight-hundred years. Problems like ugly, old, and downright horrible sutors, that are unfortunatly ritch. Problems like her greedy father and terrible older brother. Yet she slogs on, yet not uncomplaining. The diary format leaves a good amount of suspense and readers will get a sense of what life was like for a variety of differant characters in differant social positions. A GREAT read for any 10- 17 year old.

Also recommended: The Midwife's Apprentice by Karen Cushman

Summary: Must read.
Review: This book was very funny and showed you about the midevil times without giving you a headache. I thought that people that gave it less than 3 stars and thought it was for slow people were wrong because the point of the story is to show you about midevil times and give you a STORY. Birdy is very clever and is very outspoken. Just like teenagers today she is against her parents alot, but she has a reason. She is only 14 and her father wants her to marry a smelly beast. Her parents think that that's fine and feel that it is her duty. The real reason they want her to marry him is because of his money. Her father hits her and sends her to her chamber all the time. Her mother though is sweet but dosen't seem to see why she's so dissapointed about marrying a pig.You might not seem interested in the beginnig but it gets better!

Summary: Awsome Book
Review: Catherine aclled Birdy can really give you an idea of what life was in the 14 and 15 hundreds. It's a great source of information. Catherine, though is erally an exception to the rule. She is not willing to go with an arranged marriage, while most girls at that time didn't really care, because they knew they really had no control over what would happen. Catherine did her best to get her suitors to dislike her, until she met the right guy. I love to just pick up this book and start anywhere, it's great for when you only have a short time to read

Summary: Lady Birdy
Review: This book is wonderfully writen. Even my grandmother and her friend loved it. Its about this girl who lives in the Middle Ages, and what her life was like. During the book her father is trying to make her marry a man that she hates, but her intelligence is far to high and she outwits him many times. If you have read this book E-mail me with your opinion!!! This book is one of my absoulute favorites. You feel as though your right there with her.

Summary: Better than THE MIDWIFE'S APPRENTICE
Review: I have to agree that at first this book was rather dull to read, and the midieval ways of speaking and slang also contributed to the difficultness of understanding this book. But I figured: There HAS to be a reason why this book got the award, so I atempted to read this again, and was NOT dissapointed.

Catherine, Called Birdy is a powerful and true novel about the trials and tribulations of a female in the midieval ages trying to understand her abominable brother, her best friend's lover for her brother, why her mother fell for her rat-like father, and over all trying to run away from her fate of marrying a rich 60 year old stinky lord who, worst of all, has a son her age!

The whole book was hilariously funny, this diary of Lady Birdy, is a great historical fiction, and I can not doubt why this original book got the prestigeous award it earned.

Summary: Read this book slowly, then you'll catch the drift
Review: For a first read, this book was rather dull and pointless. But if you slowly read it, and the little italicized paragraphs, you start understanding why this is happening, or why Catherine feels the way she feels. A very emotional book, doesn't get to the point where it's so pathetic that you start crying your heart out, instead, your eyes fill up with tears from laughing so hard.

Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN!!!!!!
Review: This is definitely the best book I've ever read!!!! It is soo funny, sad, and happy, I just can't get over it! I read this book in fourth grade, I'm in sixth now, and I still read it every chance that I get! You have GOT to read it! P.S.-this is definitely not a book that boys should read or would enjoy, for any other matter.
