Summary: A real gem! You'll love it!
Review: This is a finely written and highly entertaining novel. I read it when I was 19 and really enjoyed it. The heroine is strong, defiant, intelligent, and likeable. She is a great heroine for young girls to read about and look up to (comparable to the heroine of 'The Witch of Blackford Pond') The story moves along at a fast pace and is filled with light-hearted humor. The medieval atmosphere is perfectly set, and as a middle-ages enthusiast I especially enjoyed the descriptions. But make no mistake, this is not dry historical fiction. It is a story of a young woman going through the trials and changes (some serious, some not) of adolescence that is easy to believe and relate to. It just happens to be set in the middle-ages. I would recommend this to anyone. You don't have to be a teenaged girl to enjoy this.

Summary: Catherine is what I call a REAL character.
Review: After reading this book I marvelled at how well Karen Cushman can make a character come to life. Catherine is a REAL character. She has real feelings and has a mind of her own. At least that's what you would think if you didn't know any better. Not many authors can do that. I recommend this book to anyone who... well, I recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: I'd give this book all the stars in the sky if i could*****
Review: I LOVED this book!!!!! This book is narated by an obstinine, stubborn and ricious preteen fom the 1200s. Catherine's father (a greedy relentless jerk) keeps trying to marry Catherine off to dull, disgusting, unattractive and self absorbed suiters to get himself richer. Catherines mother and nanny try to get Catherine to become a lady who talks little and weaves a lot. Catherine yearns to be a villager who can daudle and forget their manners and marry someone of their choice. This book tells every detail of this young womans late preteen years. WARNING: You'll find yourself laughing, crying screaming and scheming along with the book.

PS I've read the book 9 times and never tire of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Its makes you grateful that now women have rights
Review: Catherine is, as the cover says, not your average damsel in distress. She is a Middle Age's example of Girl Power. Sometimes the book went into a little too much detail but overall, a very good book.

Summary: So good, no wonder it won a Newbery!
Review: This was a page-turner, couldn't-put-it-down read-it-over-and-over-again book! It was a bit slow at first, but it was worth it. It gives a modern perspective to medieval life. Names like Shaggy Beard really liven it up. Catherine herself is a witty, impatient clever girl who will stop at nothing to prevent being married, even using mouse bones and fire. But she would never survive in these days, as she is far to medieval, though independant. If you like girls standing up for themselves, hilarious characters and/or diaries, read this!

Summary: Wonderful Book!!
Review: I really can not understand some of the customers' points of view about this book. For one thing it is not dull at all! The book is fit perfectly for its age group of twelve and up, some parts may not be appropriate for young elementary school readers. This is an over all wonderful book!!!

Summary: Not Worth Reading
Review: Karen Cushman's style of writing was rather low and sordid even taking into consideration the time period and the reality of the Middle Ages. I would not recommend this for children's reading.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is one of the best books that I have ever read!
Review: I really ove this book, beacuase it is so funny, and it gives a really good picture of what life in the middle ages. I personally don't think I could stand it! Anyhowm, Catherine is just harlious, and has tons of tricks up her sleave.( Like setting the privey,(outhouse) on fire while one of her suiters, (a gut she dos't want to marry),is sitting in it!) I am sure that all people interested in a funny book, or the middle ages will love this book. If you like Karen Cushmans writing style, then I am sure you would like another great book written by her called "The Ballard of Lucy Whipple"

Rating: 3 stars
