Summary: A great story
Review: I was given this book as a present when I was 7, and I read it as soon as I opened it. It was a great story. It was filled with mystical powers and time travel, strage creatures and battles, and it became my favorite book. I usually don't read books more then once, but I read this book at least ten times from when I was seven until today, and I am now thirteen, but I still love the book now as much as I did then.

Summary: This is a great book! It is a must have!
Review: In this book, a thirteen-year-old girl named Kate must team up with a mischievous boy named Jody and an indian girl, Laioni, in order to save two worlds, past and present, and to save Kate's Aunt Melanie from loggers. Meanwhile, Kate also has to get out of the past and into the present time. Boy is she in trouble!
I like how in the book the author is able to make a lot of special creatures, but still give them human-like flaws and charecteristics. I also like the overall plot and how Kate deals with all of the decisions she has to make. This book would be a great one to have!

Summary: It was WONDERFUL!
Review: It uses vivid verbs, and has a great plot. Well some authors couldn't carry this out, T.A. Barron makes it a real page turner! I reccomend it for all ages with that rading capability. I read it in 6th grade, and couldn't put it down!

Summary: Great Book, but it can contradict itself in places.
Review: Its a really good fantasy book. Unfortunetly, it can tend to contradict itself in a few places. The stonehags gave Kate, Laioni, and Laioni's dog the gift of universal speech, to be able to understand and be understood by all. Yet they couldn't understand the dog, and Jody couldn't understand Laioni. Otherwise, I LOVE this book

Summary: Our class group LOVED it!
Review: Kate and her aunt Melanie try to save the 'Lost Crater' from loggers who want to cut the ancient redwood trees. By a magic walking stick, Kate travels back in time. She makes friends and enemies on her trip. She will need a broken touchstone to control the stick that will take her back to her own time. Can Kate save the Halamis from Gashra, save the Ancient One, and make it back to our time?

Everyone in our class reading group loved the book - except for the ending. :( The authors style was imaginative and very expressive. The sentences flowed for a good 'read'. We would recommend this book because it was suspenseful, interesting, and educational. It's a learning experience book for children. You always wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Summary: A Very Interesting Book
Review: Kate is a girl who is visiting her aunt during summer vacation. While she is there she finds out what her aunt is up to: trying to save the ancient redwood trees from the loggers that are trying to cut them down. Aunt Melanie takes Kate and they both go to the lost crater which is only "lost" because it hasn't been seen since the end of the Hameli tribe (a group of Indians that lived there 500 years ago.) Aunt Melanie has been handed down a walking stick that belonged to the Hamelis' many years ago. An unforseen mistake with the walking stick sends Kate back in time (500 years). Will Kate get back to her own time? Will she survive her adventure? If you are a person that likes magic or adventure books then this is a good book for you to read. I like the Ancient One because of the adventure, action, and exciting parts in the story that made me keep reading and reading until I knew what happened. The Ancient One is probably one of my favorite books and is worthy of an award!

Summary: This is one of the best books I've ever read
Review: Kate is a spirited 13-year-old who is visiting her aunt in Oregon. This book kept me up a lot at night wondering what would happen. Barron's writing style is easy to read and has so many different levels to it. I recommend this book to anybody who likes adventure combined with humor. It's a great read just like the other two books in the trilogy.

Now this is pretty incredible becasue who ever heard of an ENTIRE READING class LOVING a book?! pretty cool. this book is very creative and original. i recommend it! (ps. the only thing is the beginning is a little slow for non-fantasy/sci. fiction people... just give it a chance!)

Summary: Good to be back!
Review: Not much of a fantasy reader, but, I remember reading this book back when it's first printing came out. I was in 6th grade, that was...10+ years ago!?!?! I LOVED this book, and read it twice, cover to cover, before passing it on to my friends. I'm happy to see it back! I look foreward to reading it over again, and then sharing with others! Highly reccomended as abstract teaching for any environmental curriculun involving the teachings of logging practices .vs. Old Growth Forests. Better for younger audiences, but and adult who hasn't lost their youth or spirit for adventure would enjoy as well!
