Rating: Summary: A simple story... Review: A fairly simple story with all your basic plot needs. I feel that certain elements of the book (such as how Kate and her Aunt Melonie feel about nature) were overdone. The sense of all things in life 'connected' with each other was repeated several times, without too much syntax variation. The "big bad villian meanie" was described almost as well as I just did.And I didn't really like the way it ended, but I won't give it away. It just seemed somewhat anticlimatic. Anyway, there's nothing seriously /wrong/ with this book, it just didn't appeal to me.

Rating: Summary: The Ancient One Review: Enter a world of enchantment and foreign creatures as you explore the world of wonders in The Ancient One.You will meet many people and learn the ways of life for different societies. I enjoyed reading this fantasy book because the author mixed very emotional and mythical ideas into the story's plot. Kate visits her Aunt Melanie in Oregon for a peaceful vacation away from home. Her parents are going on a trip and figure that she would like a chance to be with her aunt. Instead of a quiet time to relax with her, Kate gets a far more adventurous surprise. The ancient redwood tree in the middle of a grove of trees unexpectedly transportsKate to a time 5oo years before her own. Her companions are stubborn Jody, who is part of a group of loggers that are threatening to tear down the grove of trees, and a magical walking stick given to her by her own Aunt Melanie. Kate meets a friend, Laioni, who is able to communicate with her because of a special fountain of water that the Stonehags offered to them both. Laioni and Kate are on a mission together to help save all of the people who live in the "Crater of Life" and to restore peace to the communities in the crater. On this journey, the two girls learn about friendship and what a friend will do for another even if they risk something dear and precious. The girls have many victories, but one cannot always win. A great loss comes from this retreat, and the two must help each other to get through their troubles. To succeed in their missions, Laioni and Kate must overcome many fears and obstacles, work together, and most of all learn how to treat all beings with the same respect and dignity, for all have the right to live in happiness together. I recommend this book to all of the readers in this world. It is one of my favorite books because I can connect with the main character, Kate. When I am away from my family, all that I can think about is that I really miss them. Kate and I both love our relatives and spend time with them. It is Kate's only desire to get back to her own time so that she can protect her Aunt Melanie from the loggers. Aunt Melanie is in danger because she alone is trying to protect the endangered grove of trees which is about to be torn down. Love and life are the main lessons taught in The Ancient One. You can learn a lot from this book and also have an enthralling read.

Rating: Summary: Amazing Fantasy Read for all Ages Review: I absolutly loved this book. When I read it this first time, I swear, I was still in diapers, but never-the-less, I still enjoyed it. Reading it again made me wonder, could I ever be as cool as Kate? I don't know, but this book takes you off into a world that you never want to leave. I've read other book by T. A. Barron, but this was the first and the best. I highly reccomend it to people who like being swept off their feet by fanatsy like Merlin, Sabriel, and all the Tolkein books.

Rating: Summary: This is one of my favs!! Review: I love this book! I just finished reading it yesterday morning (12:48 AM). Even though it was somewhat predictable, and had some flaws, it shared a definate message about environment, both metaphorically and just straight at you. Definately worth buying.
Rating: Summary: It was WONDERFUL!!! Review: I read this book 1 summer ago when I was in Oregon and we just came back from Crater Lake. I think that I can relate to Kate in some ways, and I absolutely love fanstasy books. Kandeldandel had to be my favorite character; he seemed to be the court jester of the story...good environmental message to all, I have to admit. When in Oregon and CA, there are so many logging trucks passing by and I think of that story when I see them on the highways. I hope T.A. Barron comes out with many more books because he is such a great writer who keeps you wanting to finish the book and not move out of your seat.
Rating: Summary: Great Book and a great gift. Review: I read this book a few years ago and loved it. I was only about 12 or 13 when I read it and think it could make a really good present for pre-teens. It carries a strong enviromental message, and has an easy to follow plot and storyline. Definitly worth buying.
