Summary: :-)
Review: "The Conjurer Princess" is an extremely interesting book in that it is not about exactly what one would think. It is called a "fairy tale," but I thought it was extremely dark and violent for a fairy tale. Lylene is not an innocent princess; she is a vengeful, and at times cruel girl, who is not a bad person but she's not really a good person either. The ending is a major surprise, and I had to read it three times before I was sure that I got it right. I won't give it away, but let's just say that if you like fairy tales with happily ever after endings, I wouldn't read this book.

Summary: If you liked "Curses, Inc.", don't get this!
Review: As a fan of Vivian Vande Velde since Curses, Inc., I was suprised to find this fantasy/"romance" worked as well as a sedative as it did a book. The detail of the characters is short, and the book offers little romance, unlike what its' summaries say. Unless you're very interested in repetitive verbal conflicts and dry, medieval humor, then I don't recommend purchasing this book.

Summary: This book is soooooooo good
Review: I almost didn't read this book, but I am very glad I did. It's exciting and keeps you reading nonstop until the end.Lylene is not your average girl, and the ending is definetly not what you expect(I thought it was kind of funny, though others may disagree).I only wish SOMEONE would write a sequel!

Summary: Not worth money or time
Review: I am now 12 and I remember reading this book at age 11.I don't remember much about it except that I read it quickly and was not intrigued or interested at all.It had a creative plot but the writing was sloppy, not like something by a proffesional author.I have not read any other of Velde's books but I hope that they are not all as bad as I percieved this one to be.

Summary: 1 of the best books I've read so far...
Review: I borrowed this book from a library and thought it would be an interesting read.Boy,was I right! Beryl proved to be a really self-centered and greedy woman, the opposite of Lylene, who really couldn't actually pass her old age on Harkta, cause he'd pass those off onto other innocent people. I am currently reading 'Sabriel' by Garth Nix and that is great too!

Summary: It's OK, but...
Review: I have read this book and the Changeling Prince. I like this story line, but it is extremely frustrating to read. She never quite finishes her stories. It is almost like she gets to a certain point and decides that the story is long enough, so she suddenly ends the story. Like the ending to this one. One minute they are hating each other, the next they are traveling off down to who knows where like they are friends. The Changeling prince is the same way. It is one of those type of books that you can't put down, yet really agravates you because of the way things are left undone. I would read another in this series to find out if she is going to end it, but none of her other books, because it is too frustrating.

Summary: great!
Review: I liked this book very much. But some of you may not know that this is one of the only book Vivan Vande Velde has written that has a prequile. The book before it is called " The Changling Prince" That was very good. but I am in a totally different book review but anyway. This book was very good but at times I just wanted to go into that book and slap Lylene. She could have given Harkta her old age. But I think she wanted to get the senior citizans privilages out of it. Well I recommend it. but beware, Lylene will make you mad.- BB

Summary: Siskel and Ebert should give it 2 thumbs up
Review: I loved this book. True, it is not a light, sugar coated fairy tale, instead it explores Lylene and her journey in a realistic way. The realizations that Lylene must come to and the choices she must make on the hunt for her sister are ones that could take place to anyone growing up, during any time period. It is interesting to see how they are handled in this story. I liked the character developement and what the character's relationships were to eachother. The fight and chase scenes were very exciting, drawing the reader into the story. This book had the right mixture of excitment, suspense, sympathy and concern for the main characters.

Summary: A tremendous read, The Conjurer Princess is a definite must!
Review: I picked this book up at the library just because it looked interesting. Now I'm hooked. Vivian Vande Velde's way of drawing you into the story has me yearning for more.

On her sister Beryl's wedding day, Lylene watches in horror as she is kidnapped on the altar. She knows something must be done but the law and church have turned a blind eye to the matter. Lylene determines that the task of saving her sister has fallen to her. Her quest takes her to the door of a wizard whom she bargains with to teach her magic. But that bargain has a dark side that Lylene is too late in finding out.
Now on her own again, armed only with her newly acquired magic, she stumbles into the lives of two theives, Shile and Weiland, who help her out of a bad situation. Seeing that Lylene can not complete this mission on her own, they agree to help her rescue her sister.

Peppered with adventure, intrigue, betrayal, humor and a smidge of romance, Vivian Vande Velde has weaved a truly superb fantasy that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The ending was a little abrupt and left me wondering what happens to our heros but all in all it was a tremendous read that I highly recommend.

Also recommended: THE CHANGELING PRINCE, COMPANIONS OF THE NIGHT, DRAGON'S BAIT...basically anything by Vande Velde.
