Rating: Summary: A twist of Fate! Review: If you have ever wondered why your life is the way it is, then you must read this book and get in touch with your thread. No, don't bother Lachesis, I'm sure she knows!! Just locate your thread and quietly sneak a peak when no one is looking. Of, course the three ladies will know, so instead, just read the book!
Rating: Summary: A key book in this awsome series.... Review: If you up on your Greek Mythology, then perhaps you have heard of the 3 fates; Clotho who spins the threads of life, Lachesis, who measures the threads of life and Atropos, who cuts the threads of life. Piers Anthony incorporates this with a vey clever twist in this "office" as one of the incarnatins of Immortality. The Protagonist in this Book is Niobe. I consider her truly the most important charater of the whole series. She is the Mother of the soon to be Mother nature (Orb in Bk 5), the grandmother of Luna (Dating the Incarnation of death and play the pivital role in bk 7). She is also related to Orlene, to be a key incarnation in book 7. Satan and her go at it pretty hard in his Novel. Niobe has a pesonal grugde with Satan and Satan doesn't care for her....but her daughther in book 5 and 6..well that is a different review. Niobe also gets to be the Incarnation of Fate twice. Once as the beautiful Clotho in her youth. (After having Luna). Then she steps down after a few decades still young and has another child(orb). As an incarnation. One doesn't age. When Niobe assumes the second aspect (Lachesis) she is in her forties. As Lachesis, her and Satan really rumble. This is a pivital book because it helps clarify topic from the first 2 books and sets ups events for the rest of the series. Great read
Rating: Summary: Does Piers Anthony Ever Write Anything Bad? Review: In this, the 3rd book of the "Incarnations Of Immortality" series, Piers Anthony brings to life the driving force behind life. I've never heard of Fate being portrayed as a person, let alone a woman, LET ALONE 3 WOMEN! And yet, Anthony makes it all seem so natural, by bringing the women behind Fate down-to-earth to show the reader the individual personalities and goals that each form of Fate possesses. And I don't know where Anthony came up with the rules and restrictions behind each of the Incarnations and their unity, but he makes it seem like they've been set in stone since the beginning of everything! Excellent reading.
Rating: Summary: My favorite Incarnations book Review: Loved it, loved it, loved it!! This is my favorite of all the Incarnations books, coming close with number 1. I think my favorite part is when Niobe pulls one over on Satan because Satan can't tell Orb and Luna apart! (hee, hee) :)
Rating: Summary: Time slide by when you deal in threads Review: Niobe is the key character in this novel and has alot to give to the others as well. I'm not going to go into details, I'll leave that for you to find out. Niobe is a wonderful character, full of life, nuture, and completion. As fate she holds the human world in her hands and keeps it in an untangle fashion. Her fight with evil is rivating. In all this is one of the best books in this series.
Rating: Summary: Enthralling story: a virtual masterpiece Review: Piers Anthony created a masterpiece when he wrote With a Tangled Skein. This story has a strong, mystifying plot that latches on and doesn't let go. The story centers around a woman named Niobe Kaftan. The story picks up when her husband dies in her place, due to a plan devised by Satan, the lord of evil. To get her revenge, she joins the aspect of Fate as Clotho. With her are two other ladies, Atropos and Lachesis, who guide her and and help her find her way. She then learns that there are such things as incarnations; Fate, War, Nature,Time,God and Satan, real people who are immortal to govern over humanity. This story has many great elements. The characters are very well thought out, you would almost think they were real. The plot is a rel dazzler, though, because twists and turns abound in this book. It's a very absorbing book that you can hardly put down. The dialogue is immaculate and very precise. The descriptiveness is just spectacular, you feel as if you're there. On the down side, though, there are a few little problems. First,it can get a tiny bit confusing now and then, because so much action is taking place. Secondly, because this book spans many generations, it gets hard to see who had this kid and who married who, so on and so forth. Other than this, the book is excellent. With a Tangled Skein rises above all the rest, sort of a diamond in the rough, you could say. It has an enthralling plot that will keep you reading to the end. I suggest that you read this as soon as humanly possible.

Rating: Summary: The second best book I've read Review: Recently my friend (who's review is also here I think) lent me his copy of "On a Pale Horse," the first book in this series. I loved it and immediately read the next two books. But Skein was just amazing. Anthony was original once again, taking the three famous mythologic Aspects of Fate- Clotho, the spinner; Lachesis, the weaver; and Lachesis, the cutter of threads- and giving them distinct roles, duties, and powers. This book took place over a long period of time and managed to do so smoothly, for I felt as if Niobe had actually experienced 80-something years and developed from a stubborn young woman to a wize old one. There were a few aspects (pardon the pun) I was unsatisfied with, namely the fact that it wasn't made clear enough that the man who fills the office of Chronos who she interacts with first in the novel is not Norton from the last book in the series; her encounters with him seem almost exactly the same as the ones in the that novel. I was able to know this was not the case because I did the math, and in order for that to be Norton, Luna would have to be born while her father was only four years old. Later in the novel it was made more evident, but it still leads to misunderstanding. Whatever the case, its still an excellent book, second only to "Inherit the Wind." Satan's maze was creative, despite being slightly tedious, and it expanded well on the life of the mysterious Magician Kaftan of the first novel in the series. I particularly like that this book was full of many smaller incidents that made the larger story, much like in the first book- a quality which was lacking in the second. Now I've begun the fourth book. I've heard wonderful things about book six and I can't wait to get to it. This series is an excellent choice for anyone who likes creative another-way-of-looking-at-things type books whith lots of characters and secrets. Before closing, you might note that the branches of the family tree in Skein are awfully close... its as close as it can get to incest without actually being it. Enjoy this book and the rest of the series!
