Rating: Summary: An excellent sequel to The Golden Compass. Review: Enchanting, you don't want to put it down, and when you finish, you wish you had the third book.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was a great book, enchanting Review: The subtle Knife was a great book I recommend it for all ages. And the first was just as good. It's sure to be a classic someday, now I can't wait for the third book.
Rating: Summary: Exciting Review: The long awaited sequel to the Golden Compass, the Subtle knife, was extremely fascinating but Lyra did'nt seem to have the leadership qualities that she did in the Golden Compass
Rating: Summary: Some very interesting ideas Review: It has some very interesting ideas especially on the subject of God. I think Will is a good character but I don't like how Lyra gives in to him.I am glad Mrs Coulter is back. And I like the idea of the Angels and The subtle knife. It is a very good book. Better than the golden compass. It is very gripping I can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Terrific book! I loved it! Review: The Subtle Knife was great. I read The Golden Compass in August '97 and I couldn't wait to read the next book. The only thing that I didn't like about it was how it ended. I was reading the last few pages but I didn't even realise that it was over untill I came to the last sentence and there was no more. But besides that, it was terrific. Phillip Pullman is my favorite writer in the world and I just cannot wait untill the next book comes out. I have already read The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife about 3 or 4 times just to keep from going crazy. Phillip Pullman has the ability to write books that can be read over and over again without losing the original suspense or anything like that. PLEASE! ANYBODY WHO HAS ANY IDEA ABOUT WHEN BOOK 3 IS COMING OUT: TELL ME!
Rating: Summary: Really good but a little too confusing and short in places. Review: I thought The Subtle Knife was very, very good, much better than The Sally Lockhart Trilogy. The death scenes were so sad they made me cry! It made me wish I had a daemon. I did think, though, that the author should have explained a little better why exactly the witch wanted to kill Will's father. I also can't figure out if Lord Asriel is good or bad. I mean he has no sympathy whatsoever and doesn't really care what he does to other people so long as the end result is what he wants, but then Will and Lyra seem to be on his side, the "good" side. Those are the only complaints I had, and other than that the book was wonderful. I think you should definitely read this book, but be prepared because it is absolutely impossible to put down and once you finish you will want to go straight to the third! Where is the third, anyway?
Rating: Summary: A good book if you read the one before it. Review: This book was as wonderful and exciting as the Golden Compass, however made many references to the past book, and did not follow up with an explanation. Though, the writing was spectacular and captivating. I read it in two days flat because I couldn't put it down, and I'm 11! However I had already read the first book. I wonder when the third book will come out.
Rating: Summary: A thought-provoking sequel to Golden Compass Review: We both read this book around the same time, and we agreed on one thing: The book was surely worthy to be a sequel to The Golden Compass, what with the original ideas, tough situations and good writing. But the ending was very dissappointing. He left too much undone. It ended far too abruptly. Yet, we liked the book very much, and Rori has checked it out again. We can't wait for the third book!
Rating: Summary: The most exciting and suspensful book you'll ever read. Review: Lyra Belaqua is not just another child caught up in the the confusion of adolescence. She is the most important being since the creation of earth. In this book, she is continuing her search for righteousness in 3 worlds full of danger. With the help of Will Parry, she sets out to find her father, and give him the only weapon that can win the war he started with the authority. This book is the second, in a wild and intriguing 3-part miniseries, called, His Dark Materials.
Rating: Summary: Dissapointing Review: After reading the Golden Compass (my new favorite book) I couldn't wait for the release of Subtle Knife. I got it the first day the book stores had it. After I read it, I was a little let down. I was expecting a spectacular sequel to a great peice of work, but in reality, it was a mediocre story. Minimal plot twists made it a little boring. Too bad, maybe the next book will be better.
