Summary: from a reformed wallflower...
Review: i used to be charlie. i think at some point, to some extent everyone had a little charlie in them. this is one of the greatest coming-of-age tales i've ever read. the comparison has been made before, but there is a good reason. charlie is like a holden caulfield for a new generation. he is filled with the same angst and curiosity and over-all emotion of a young teenage male learning how things work. i am not an avid reader, but mr. chbosky may change that should he continue to write novels. the character of charlie spoke of feelings and thoughts that i instantly recognized. this is, to the best of my memory, almost exactly what it's like to be fifteen. this is an excellent book and i recommend it to anyone regardless of age, gender, religion, social status...i think i made my point. read this book.

Summary: Amazing
Review: I read this book around August of 99' when I was in the Bahamasand I could not put it down. I passed it along to all my friends andthey all loved it. I then put it away on my bookshelf and didn't see it until today when given an assignment for my English class, I was told to select a passage from my favorite book. I immediately knew what passage I was going to do, so when I got home, I took the book out and began to re-read the passage. What I didn't realize was that I kept reading for around a half an hour. This book was something amazing and true and special. I don't know a soul out there who wouldn't feel for Charlie. Do yourself a favor and get this book. It's just...amazing...

Summary: Right up there.
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read, if not number one on my list. I think it's better than On The Road....maybe not. But this made me cry a lot, and actually depressed all day me in some parts. But I love the book none the less. I can really identify with charlie.

Summary: I highly recommend this book...
Review: This book was everything. Through his letters, we learn about Charlie's first year in high school; love, sex, drugs and family struggles and all the emotions in between. And through the vivid descriptions, I found that I too, was in his "world." I loved it. I cried. I laughed out loud. But most importantly, I related to all of Charlie's heartache and confusion, something I felt extremely comforting. Life is tough. It's nice to see an author battle that. I can't wait to see more of Chbosky's work...

Summary: Some say it lacks realism . . .
Review: I loved this book. I let my best friend borrow this book and he was the one to point out the somewhat unrealistic tones. I hadn't even noticed them. My first impression of this book was how incredibly REALISTIC it was. One has to understand that Charlie isn't exactly that normal -- he is emotionally unstable. But all things he experiences are exact and to the point. So what there are exact quotes in the letters? So what this sets an unrealistic tone? The book is still superb and well-written. Even though my friend found it unrealistic at times, he still ended up loving the book as much as me, and I think that says a lot for its ability to inspire. It's a good book. That's all there is to it.

Summary: a response.
Review: this is a response the entry from a reader from detroit, michigan, written january 5, 2000. i read it, and i had to agree withhim or her. my earlier entry was all for the book, because i thought it was great, i still do, but my feeling has somewhat changed, i must admit. the reader who wrote that entry recognized the negative points in this book, but all of it is true. charlie is only portrayed as the nice, somewhat innocent 15 year old he is, and as nothing worse. he does some things wrong, but he, in the end, is near perfect. even though he is screwed up, your compassion for charlie is overwhelming, and you seem to forget that he doesn't seem that real. i still say that this book is very inspiring, but not well-written. some of the "letters" just seemed too bookish for me, with direct quotes and too much detail for letters. i recommended this book to my boyfriend, and he, along with other friends, also found it very helpful to problems we face as teenagers. i'd just like to point out that this IS a great book, but before buying, read detroit, michigan's entry, and then decide. END
