Rating: Summary: a generation's voice Review: I read The Perks Of Being a Wallflower expecting a reincarnation of an overused coming of age formula. I was pleasantly relieved. Chbosky certainly summoned the tradition of Holden Caufield in Charlie but created a modern portrait that has reinvigorated the genre. Charlie, like Caufield, lacks the adolescent spirit of complascency and instead allows his mind to ponder truth where there are only lies. Charlie has his friends, who have clearly lived the same hell, to guide him through the gauntlet of acceptance, understanding and presence. Charlie's age is inconsequential. And while his experiences are hardly universal, he seeks and finds (most of) the answers that subconsciously trouble a generation. Charlie seeks the answers to the questions most of us will not ask. Chbosky has personified the voice of our generation.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Review: I read this book because I saw 5 people reading it who couldn't put it down, neither could I! Although it has some "uncomfotable" scenes, it's very, very well writen. It's hard to believe that an older person can write in the state of mind that all teenagers think in. I've read 3 times so far and it still hasn't lost it's touch. I applaud Steven Chbosky for his extremly gifted talent Bravo and read this book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This book was wonderful! I couldn't pit it down! As I was reading it, I wished many times that I could be Charlie, the main character. I liked the fact that he had all these friends and a brother and sister. I really wanted to be him. This a good book, for older readers, but a great coming-of-age book. If you like "The Catcher in the Rye," then you will like this, possibly even better. I liked this better, because I never really wanted to Holden Caulfied, but as I have said before, I wanted to be Charlie. Read it and I guarentee, you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT READ Review: This book was one of the most amazing novels I've ever read-its too bad its the first book written by Chbosky, I was looking forward to reading others... The book includes everything for a good read-a little mystery, laughter and tears, a little love etc etc.... It is easy to relate to- the family seems like your everyday American bunch, but the book explores the relationships and communications within and the reader realizes that this family is coming apart at the seams, but in complete denial. The ending in totally unexpected, all the better for the reader.... I highly enjoyed this book, and suggest it for any reader-young or old.
Rating: Summary: A Modern Holden Caulfield Review: Charlie is one of the most perceptive and honest protagonists to describe adolescence since The Catcher in the Rye. I don't know how this book slipped under the radar, but it was total chance that I found it at all. More people should read this book- it is hilarious, poignant, and remarkably accurate in its portrayal of high school today. Read it and tell your friends!
Rating: Summary: An amazing growing-up story Review: This is an amazing book. It describes the freshman year of an emotional, unusual teenage boy. Throughout this year, he deals with issues both "good" and "bad" (such relative terms) such as sex, drugs, girls, friendships, peer pressure, school, family issues, music, and just plain growing up. Many of his issues are issues that most or all teenagers have to deal with when going through high school, and unlike many sappy "realistic teen novels", this one seems very realistic and very precious. In the form of letters to an acquaintance, Charlie's story can be touching, hilarious, and very painful at different times. A must-read.
Rating: Summary: A Really Good Book Review: This book could not possibly portray an actual teen's life, but it was a really great read anyway. The main character was pretty weak and annoying, but I can assure you that once you start reading the book, you'll put all of that aside. I haven't read any other books by this author, but he did a fantastic job on this book. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: I'm 17 and I just recently read The Perks of Being a Wallflower..and I absolutely loved it. It was recommended to me by so many people who said it was the best book. I really enjoyed it, and it was an easy to read book with some deep thoughts in there. Also it was short and addicting..i couldn't put it down. I just fell in love with it.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Book Review: An extraordinary work -- "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is one of the best books I've read in a long time and deserves all the positive reviews it has received. Essential reading for those who remember starting high school, finding new friends, discovering love, and basically, being confused about it all.
Rating: Summary: The Perks of Being a Wallflower: review Review: I have read this book about three times. It is by far my favorite book. This book opens your eyes to a teen's life. Some o the things he does are so true and correct. I am absolutely in love with this book. I hope that you will want to read it too.
